"If I was more confident in English...": What you get with an advanced level of English

and we're gonna jump right into our next lesson

which is all about what you get

when you have an advanced level of English

Now, since we're talking about moving

from intermediate to advanced

and the work that it takes to do because it is work,

let's look at the rewards of being an advanced speaker.

Like we said in the last lesson,

that final 20 to 30% is always the hardest thing to achieve

but it is so worth it.

It is worth that effort and just putting in the energy

and the investment to do it.

Now, before we look at that,

I just wanna say congratulations to you

because you already have a decent level of English.

You can already communicate in English

and that's already pretty good.

You've done most of the work already

maybe because you're at like a B1 or a B2 level.

Congratulations on that.

That is not easy but you wanna move further.

You wanna do more.

Now, what does it mean exactly when we say advanced?

Now, I asked a lot of my students this

and I just wanna share their definitions of advanced.

They said, "to me, advanced is being able to choose

"the right style and tone for the situation,

"not just using whatever English I can.

"It's having easy access in my brain

"to a wider range of expressions"

and not hesitating so much.

"It's not making the little mistakes

"like with prepositions and phrasal verbs

"that betray my English."

So they wanna sound a lot more

maybe like a very advanced speaker or a native speaker

and they also said that advanced means

"being more nuanced like I can be in my native language.

"It's not yes or no."

It's not black and white

"but I can debate and set the conditions with nuance"

or perhaps it's about "speaking in a more sophisticated,

"fluent way that matches the level of my job."

A lot of students talk about this,

how they feel like their level of English

is not at the same level as their professional knowledge

and their expertise and it means that they can't really

show how much they know in their professional field

because of their English

and when we're talking about getting all of that,

getting that final 20 to 30%

in order to really feel like an advanced speaker.

Now, if you are already at intermediate,

like I said, congratulations, that's fantastic

but what got you here won't get you there.

Now, let me explain what that means.

It means that all of the things that you have been doing

to get to your intermediate level,

well, it's maybe not gonna work

in order to get you up to that advanced level.

It is time to really change your strategy

because the strategies and the techniques

that have helped you, they're not really gonna work

to help you to reach the next level

and that's where my Master Real American English program

and we're gonna look at how it's different

and also perhaps quite different

from what you've been doing in the past.

So here we're gonna really compare and contrast.

Let's say some typical business English lessons.

You can see often you're doing it one time per week only

so conversation, the WhatsApp group, things like that

but also deliberate learning

like in your sessions with your teacher and with your coach.

In a classic business English course,

you might have one or two homework exercises to do

between your weekly sessions

and not just doing homework.

Of course you will have homework

but we're gonna help you to really live the language.

In a lot of typical business English classes,

you do lose time traveling to class

so even if you are traveling for business

or you're on vacation, you don't have to miss your sessions

In a classic course, you might feel embarrassed or shy

a lot of office politics and so you feel shy

about expressing yourself in English

but in my program you are going to be with people

who you don't know, you're gonna get to know them

and you may even become friends with some of them

So there is no judgment in this program

because we're all here for the same reason

and mistakes are part of your learning process.

In a classic course,

often you might just take the same format,

maybe all individual lessons or all group lessons

but with my virtual immersion program,

attacking your problems from all different angles

which is why we mix up the formats.

You've got an online course, private individual lessons,

group coaching, group conversation, a WhatsApp group

and really everything you need to improve a lot

in just three months.

In a classic course, you often work with the same teacher

and people especially if you are in a group in your country,

people who have the same native language as you,

maybe the same accent but in my program,

it is a very international program

which means that you're gonna have a mix of accents,

a mix of cultures just like in the real business world

where you're working with people

from lots of different backgrounds

and you have to learn how to manage

and cope with that kind of thing.

In a classic course, you might have no contact

with the teacher between the sessions.

You see 'em once a week but with my program,

you're gonna be in constant contact between the sessions

because that's what you do in your WhatsApp group.

You've got a quick question,

you wanna share something with us, we are there for you.

So you're at that intermediate level now.

You wanna get better.

You might feel a little frustration but don't stop now

because you're almost there.

You can almost feel what it's like

to have that advanced level

because you're starting to see that you can do this.

Now, when you do this, what is the reward?

You are gonna have doors that open for you

so that you can move up in your career.

You're gonna be able to expand your business

into new markets.

Maybe even have a successful business in the USA

if that's one of your professional projects.

If it's not and you're just working with clients in English,

they're gonna see you as more competent,

more high level, more experienced

and you're gonna start using more powerful tools

and resources so that you can reach your goals

especially when it gets difficult.

When there's a hard challenge, we're gonna be there

to make sure that you overcome that challenge

because like I said, we're attacking those problems

from all angles in a very coordinated way.

What you're gonna do,

you're gonna have your individual assessment to begin.

We're gonna evaluate your strengths and weaknesses

and we're going to define your goals.

You're gonna have an individual lesson every week

to focus on your specific issues with your teacher.

You'll have small group coaching.

This is all about mindset, strategy

and maybe questions about your online course as well

and then you'll have conversation practice

up to four times per week

in order to have more confidence and more fluency

and of course you get access, unlimited access,

of fast spoken English.
