American Halloween Traditions At The Office

Halloween is one of my favorite American holidays.

In fact, 65% of the population decorate their homes and offices for Halloween.

That means that,

your American colleagues will probably do something at work

to celebrate October 31st.

In the US, Halloween isn’t just for kids. it’s the 2nd biggest holiday,

just after Christmas.

It’s also one of the things that I miss the most from back home.

The festive atmosphere, the decorations, the parties.

I love Halloween and i just wanted to share with you.

I know Halloween isn’t very popular in France,

and the aim of this video isn’t to encourage you to adopt these office traditions,

It's just to help you learn more about what’s going on this week

chez vos collègues américains.

Plus,

if your kids are studying Halloween in their English class,

you can learn vocabulary together!

In some American offices,

it’s ok to come to work dressed in a Halloween costume.

Of course, it is still work, so no sexy costumes.

In the US, Halloween costumes don’t have to be scary.

Scary. wooohooooo!

You can dress up as a lot of different things.

Dress up as.

For example, you can dress up as a cat

meow

a movie star, or even a clown.

Just maybe not the scary Stephen King clown.

You don’t want to scare your clients away!

Some offices even organize a costume contest. A costume contest.

Everyone can vote for the funniest, most original, or scariest costume

and the winners get nice prizes, like a gift certificate to a restaurant!

Americans may also decorate their office with festive Halloween decorations.

Halloween decorations.

This can become a team-building opportunity where each team collaborates

to decorate their work space.

Decorations can be simple:

May be just black and orange flower arrangements, or a simple jack o’lantern. Like right over there

on the wall.

May be a few skeletons.

May be a few

spider webs,

May be a few

tombstones

May be a few witches,

and more

witches and tombstones.

Another Halloween tradition that isn’t just for kids?

Trick or treating.

To go trick or treating

To go trick or treating is to go from house to house to get candy. Lots of candy!

Look somebody ate my candy

Adults at work can go from desk to desk and get candy from their colleagues!

But there is a danger of a collective sugar rush in the afternoon!

Some offices allow employees to bring their kids to work to go trick or treating around the office!

Halloween may not be the most productive day at the office,

but it can be a lot of fun, and offers a little break from the normal work routine.

You see, Halloween in the US is a fun holiday for adults too.

Ask your American colleagues if they’re going to do anything special at work.

You may be surprised!
