Learn the English Terms "spaced out" and "space cadet"

In this English lesson, I wanted to help

이번 영어 레슨에서는

you learn the English term spaced out.

spaced out이라는 영어 단어를 익히는데 도움을 주고 싶었습니다.

Now you can have things spaced out.

이제 공간을 확보할 수 있습니다.

You can see these trees here are spaced out.

여기 이 나무들이 간격을 두고 있는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

When Jen and I planted those willow trees years

Jen과 내가 몇 년 전에 버드나무를 심었을 때

ago, I think they're about three paces apart.

, 내 생각엔 두 나무 사이가 세 걸음 정도 떨어진 것 같아요.

We spaced them out.

You can also see along my driveway here the little markers

so people don't drive in the snow are spaced out.

But when you say someone is spaced out,

하지만 누군가가 간격을 두고 있다고 말하면 그 사람이

it means that they're not paying attention.

주의를 기울이지 않는다는 의미입니다.

It means that things are happening in the world

그것은 세상에서 일들이 일어나고 있는데

and they are not aware of what's happening.

그들은 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 알지 못한다는 것을 의미합니다.

They're kind of thinking about other things.

그들은 다른 것에 대해 생각하고 있습니다.

They're a little bit spaced out.

그들은 약간 떨어져 있습니다.

So two meanings.

One meaning that things are set out in an

orderly fashion the same distance from each other.

When we put plates on the table, they're spaced out.

And then it can also mean kind of daydreaming

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today

is the term space cadet.

This isn't used a lot anymore, but you might

hear it in an older tv show or movie.

When you say someone is a space

누군가가 우주

cadet, it means that they again aren't

생도라고 말하면, 그 사람은

really aware of what's happening around them.

주변에서 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 실제로 인식하지 못한다는 의미입니다.

A student who's sitting at the back of class

수업 뒷자리에 앉아

and doesn't know there's a test or quiz that

그날 시험이나 퀴즈가 있다는 사실을 모르는 학생을

day could be called a space cadet.

우주 사관생도라고 부를 수 있습니다.

Oh, that person's such a space cadet

아, 그 사람은

they never know what's going on.

무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 전혀 모르는 우주 사관생도입니다.

So to review, when things

그러니까 복습해보면, 간격이

are spaced out, they're orderly.

떨어져 있을 때는 질서정연한 것 같아요.

When a person is spaced out, they are not orderly.

사람이 떨어져 있으면 질서가 없습니다.

They're kind of disoriented and

그들은 일종의 방향 감각을 잃고

unaware of what's going on.

무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 알지 못합니다.

And if you call someone a space

그리고 누군가를 우주 생도라고 부른다면

cadet, it simply means that they don't...

, 그것은 단순히 그 사람이

they're not really aware of

what's happening around them.

주변에서 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 전혀 인식하지 못한다는 뜻입니다.
