Brisk Walk or Stroll? - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So, I just went for a walk.

I went for a brisk walk.

In English, when you say that you go for a brisk walk,

it means that you went for a walk

where you walked fast enough

that it would be considered exercise.

It would count as exercise.

So, every day, I go for a walk.

Every day, I go for a brisk walk.

I try to walk fast enough that my heart rate gets higher

and I try to walk fast enough

that I actually sweat a little bit.

It's important when you are walking for exercise

that you walk fast enough so that you break into a sweat.

So, I went for a brisk walk.

I didn't go for a stroll.

A stroll is a lot different than a brisk walk.

When you go for a stroll,

it means that you are walking slowly

and you are looking around at all of the things around you.

Maybe if it was later in the spring,

if I was going for a stroll,

I would stop and I would smell the flowers.

But when you go for a brisk walk, you go fast.

When you go for a stroll, you go slow.

And let's talk about running.

I do not usually go for a jog very often;

I'm a little too old for running.

But when you go for a jog,

you run, but you run relatively slowly

because you want to run for a very long distance.

When you go for a sprint or when you sprint,

it means that you run as fast as you can

for a very short distance.

You can see in the Olympics

that when you watch the long-distance races,

people are doing more of what you would call a jog.

I think it's a little faster than a jog.

But when they run the 100-meter race,

they are definitely sprinting.

So, a brisk walk is a fast walk.

A stroll is a slow walk.

A jog is a slow run.

And a sprint is a really fast one.
