The...the... comparatives - English In A Minute

And today, I have a question for you.

If you study more, do you learn more?

Se você estudar mais, você aprende mais?

You could answer this question in two different ways.

Você poderia responder a essa pergunta de duas maneiras diferentes.

One: Yes! If I study more, I learn more.

Um: Sim! Se eu estudar mais, aprendo mais.

Or, two:

Ou, dois:

Yes! The more I study, the more I learn.

Sim! Quanto mais eu estudo, mais eu aprendo.

The meaning is the same.

O significado é o mesmo.

One thing depends on another.

Uma coisa depende da outra.

But, did you notice?

Mas, você percebeu?

We change the sentence structure.

Mudamos a estrutura da frase.

Let's have a look together.

Take 'if' away.

Tire 'se'.

Add 'the' to the beginning of both parts of the sentence.

Adicione 'the' ao início de ambas as partes da frase.

Rearrange the order of the words

Reorganize a ordem das palavras

so that the comparatives 'more'

de modo que os comparativos 'more'

- two times here -

are after 'the'.
