We know that ‘who’, ‘which’, ‘that’ and ‘whose’

They can always be replaced

‘When’ and ‘where’ are relative adverbs

When과 Where는

that describe places or times,

장소나 시간을 나타내는 관계부사로서

and that can be used in the same way

as ‘who’, ‘which’, ‘whose’ and ‘that’.

who, which, Whose, That과 같은 뜻으로 사용됩니다.

However,

그러나

'when' and 'where' can always be replaced

'when'과 'where'는 항상

by ‘which’ and a preposition.

'which'와 전치사로 대체될 수 있습니다.

The choice of preposition depends on the context,

전치사의 선택은 문맥에 따라 다르

so be careful!

The preposition can be in two positions

The preposition can appear in two positions.

If it appears before the relative pronoun,

the sentence is more formal.

This is in a more written style.

이것은 더 많이 쓰여진 스타일입니다.

If it is at the end of the relative clause,

관계사절 끝에 있으면

the sentence is less formal.

문장이 덜 형식적입니다.

This is more spoken.

이것은 말이 더 많습니다.

Not only is the preposition before the relative pronoun,

but the speaker has used ‘whom’,

which is an object form of ‘who’ and is also formal.

‘Whom’ is a relative pronoun used for people,

but only when they are the object of the relative clause!

but it looks nice in writing!

But unlike other relative pronouns,
