Still vs Already vs Yet - English In A Minute

Today, I'm going to tell you the difference between

Hoy les voy a contar la diferencia entre

'still', 'already' and 'yet'.

'todavía', 'ya' y 'todavía'.

They all talk about things around the present,

Todos hablan de cosas del presente,

but they don't mean the same.

pero no significan lo mismo.

We use 'still' to talk about something

Usamos 'todavía' para hablar de algo

that hasn't finished.

que no ha terminado.

Are you still studying? Let's go out!

¿Sigues estudiando? ¡Salgamos!

We use 'already' to talk about something that

Usamos 'ya' para hablar de algo que

has finished,

ha terminado,

and maybe we didn't think it would have by now.

y tal vez no pensamos que lo haría a estas alturas.

She's already finished work. She's gone home.

Ya ha terminado de trabajar. Ella se ha ido a casa.

We use 'yet' in questions and negatives

Usamos 'todavía' en preguntas y negativas

to talk about things that haven't happened,

para hablar de cosas que no han sucedido,

but we think they will.

pero que creemos que sucederán.

Haven't you left yet? You'll be late!

¿Aún no te has ido? ¡Vas a llegar tarde!

So just remember:

Things that are 'still' happening, haven't finished.

Things that have 'already' happened, have finished

and things that are 'yet' to happen, haven't started.
