So help us understand what happened, what didn't.

What, in your opinion, were the outcomes of COP26?

HT: Thank you, Pat, and hello, everyone.

In short, we made progress,

but we are not on track to deliver the world we need.

And I'm a stubborn optimist,

so I want to uplift the ground we took, because it was important ground.

But I also want to be very clear that I left Glasgow

with a very visceral feeling

that there was this gaping generational and trust gap

우리가 절대 이을 수 없는

that we are almost unable to bridge

because we have become so deeply divided

우리가 너무 깊게 분열되어 버렸고,

and we're essentially in a crisis of trust.

근본적으로 우리의 신뢰에 위기가 왔기 때문입니다.

And so we're facing an existential climate crisis,

but the greatest barrier may be that we don't have trust.

And so let me try to give you a few things to feel hopeful for

that I do think came out of this COP

because I think it matters for us to spring into action to have hope.

And so what I would like to uplift,

number one, is that I think the agenda,

the climate agenda is becoming more holistic than it has been.

It's no longer just about reducing greenhouse gas emissions,

as important as that is.

Nature is on the agenda.

And we're at least talking about justice and inclusion.

We weren't doing that just a few years ago.

Now we need to act on it, but at least we're talking about it.

지금은 행동이 필요한 때이기는 하지만 적어도 이야기는 하고 있다는 거죠.

So a more holistic agenda.

Second, I believe this COP will be remembered

두 번째로, 이번 COP는 기록에 남을 것이라 생각합니다.

as the COP where business and finance showed up.

기업과 금융계가 참석한 COP로요.

And we can say that doesn't matter

이게 별로 중요하지 않다고 생각할 수도 있어요.

because the COP process is created for governments,

COP는 각국 정부의 총회니까요.

but that matters so much.

하지만 이건 무척 중요한데 정부 혼자는 기후 위기를 해결할 수 없습니다.

Governments cannot solve this alone.

We need public-private partnership,

공공-민간 협력 체계가 필요하고, 시민 사회와 함께 풀어나가야 합니다.

and we need to be working with civil society.

We need radical collaboration, and I feel like that’s starting to happen.

급진적인 협력 체계가 필요하고 저는 곧 가능하리라 생각합니다.

I have some hope in that.

조금 희망이 있어요.

And then third, we saw some unlikely alliances.

세 번째로 믿기 힘든 광경을 목격했습니다.

We saw, well, B Team leaders and other business leaders

B Team의 리더들과 다른 기업가들이

stand with the Climate Vulnerable Forum countries

기후취약국포럼 국가들과 연합하여 서 있는 모습을 봤습니다.

that are contributing the least to this problem

이 국가들은 기후 문제를 유발한 적이 거의 없는데도

but are being hit the hardest by them.

And we saw business leaders standing there with presidents of countries

that are dealing with terrible situations,

demanding that the Global North deliver the 100 billion for the Global South

and then some,

to help mitigate this crisis.

And last but not least,

마지막으로,

we had actually accountants show up as the change catalysts

that may change the world, and who would have thought.

But we announced the International Sustainability Standards Board.

And this may not mean anything to many of us,

but it means everything to changing norms in business

경영의 기준을 모두 바꾸겠다는 것을 의미합니다.

because it means we're going to start measuring and disclosing what matters.

앞으로는 무엇이 중요한지 측정하고 알릴 것이라는 의미니까요.

And so I think these things should all give us hope.

저는 이런 일들이 우리에게 희망을 줄 것이라 생각합니다.

But let me not gloss over the fact

하지만 현실 또한 말씀드리자면,

that we had these gaping gaps between the inside and the outside

내부와 외부 사이에 벌어진 틈이 존재하고,

that actually left me feeling that we have so much hard work to do now.

We can't leave that moment behind us.

We right now must rise.

We have a narrow window to deliver this future we need,

and it is going to take all of us leaning in,

not just around one global moment

but in one global movement of private sector, public servants

개인, 공무원, 시민 사회의 활동가들 모두 함께

완전히 새로운 방식의 협력 방법을 통해

and civil society actors and activists

coming together in a more radically collaborative way

국제적인 움직임을 만들어야 합니다.

than we ever have before.

PM: Among the most hopeful outcomes was one you referenced,

that business leaders stepped up.

And that was in large part because of the leadership of the B Team,

who are business leaders committed to becoming more accountable

and to creating sustainable business practices,

going from being the perpetrators to the problem solvers.

So how is that happening?

어떻게 그렇게 하실 수 있었던 건가요?

HT: Well, let me start by saying the B Team leaders are not perfect.

HT: 우선 B Team의 리더들이 완벽한 사람들은 아닙니다.

None of us honestly are,

솔직히 말해 아무도 완벽하진 않아요.

but they are global leaders from business and civil society

하지만 이들은 전 세계 기업과 시민 사회의 리더들이자,

who have decided to put humanity at the heart of their leadership compass

and do the hard work to meet the climate crisis,

the crisis of inequality and the crisis of trust we are facing.

And so we're showing up,

placing the well-being of people and planet

alongside the pursuit of profit,

and that is long overdue.

But it is fortunately now becoming more of a mainstream agenda

than when the B Team was founded seven years ago.

And so we've been on this journey for seven, nearly eight years now,

And actually sharing the questions we should be asking now,

because this is not a moment where we have all the answers,

but we know we need to be asking the hard questions

and sharing some of the resources

that can help businesses and leaders who want to go on this journey.

Because the window is now, and we need everyone to join us.

And more importantly, while in COP,

더 중요한 건, COP에서 저희가 성명을 발표했습니다.

we put out a statement

where we put out our assessment of what was going on in Glasgow,

글래스고에서 있었던 일들을 저희 스스로 평가한 내용을 발표하고

and we promised to convene a global dialogue

다중 투자자들이 참여하는 전 세계적 규모의 대담 하나를

of multiple stakeholders in 2022.

2022년에 소집하겠다고 약속했죠.

It could be dialogues.

아직 정확히 결정하진 않았지만 대담이 여러 번일 수도 있고요.

We are yet to design it.

But really bring people together across these deep divides,

깊이 분열된 그 경계를 넘어서서 모든 사람들을 모을 생각입니다.

because there is no way from here to where we want to go,

더이상 혼자서는 우리가 원하는 곳으로,

a future where we can love where we live,

우리가 사는 곳을 사랑하며 살 만한 미래로 갈 수 있는

by going it alone anymore.

방법이 없으니까요.

It’s going to take radical collaboration,

앞으로 완전히 새로운 방식의 협력이 필요할 것입니다.

and we can't love where we live

unless we keep the world on track for 1.5 degree warming,

above pre-industrial levels.

Unless we bring nature into the solutions

and start reversing

or halting first, and then reversing nature loss.

And unless we start making this about a just and inclusive transition

그리고 이런 일들이

모든 인류에게 공정하고 폭넓게 이행될 수 있도록 만들지 않는다면요.

for all of humanity.

And this is going to be the hardest work we ever do,

이 일은 지금까지 그 어떤 일보다도 어렵겠지만

but we created this world so we can co-create a world

우리가 이 세상을 만들었으니 살고 싶은 세상을 우리가 함께 만들 수 있습니다.

where we love where we live.

And I don't know a single human being

모든 사람이 우리가 사는 곳에 대해 마음 아파할 것이고

that doesn't feel deeply frustrated with the moment we are in

and is interested in navigating this transition to a better future.

더 나은 미래를 향한 이 전환을 이루는 것에 관심이 있을 것입니다.

And that's the work that we have to do in the next eight years.

이것이 바로 향후 8년간 우리가 해야 할 일입니다.

The most difficult work of our lifetimes has to happen in the next few years.

우리 인생에 가장 어려운 일을 앞으로 몇 년 이내에 해야만 합니다.

PM: The B Team and other business leaders who were there,

you've also developed some really specific actions

and things you believe need to change.

어떤 건지 말씀해주시겠어요?

HT: So if we want to love where we live,

HT: 우리가 이 세상을 사랑하려면,

we have to change who,

사람을 바꿔야 합니다.

to change how we lead, run businesses and our economy.

그래야 사업을 운영하고 경제를 이끌어가는 방법을 바꿀 수 있습니다.

What do we mean by that?

이게 무슨 의미일까요?

Without closing the gender, racial, ethnic, generational,

모든 자리에서 성별, 인종, 민족, 세대,

Global North, Global South gaps around every table,

선진국과 개발도상국 간 격차 등으로 벌어진 틈을 메우지 않으면,

so we can start redesigning the table,

그렇게 해서 자리를 다시 설계하지 않으면

we are not going to be able to design a world that is trusted,

서로 신뢰하고 포용하는 세상,

모두를 위한 세상을 만들 수 없습니다.

inclusive and works for all.

Right now, it is a rather male and a rather pale world,

지금 현재는 비교적 남성, 백인의 세상이고,

and you all know what the third thing is.

세 번째는 말 안해도 다들 뭔지 아시겠죠.

That’s going to give us a rather stale world.

이대로라면 앞으로도 진부한 세상밖에 없습니다.

Well, that is not what we need now.

우리에게 지금 필요한 것이 이게 아니죠.

We need the greatest human transformation of our lifetimes to happen now,

우리에겐 지금 우리 인생 최대의 인류 변화가 필요합니다.

and that should be exciting.

이 변화는 정말 흥미진진할 것이고 거대한 사업 기회입니다.

It's a huge business opportunity.

It's a huge opportunity to unite people,

인류를 통합할 큰 기회이고,

and it's a huge opportunity to create a world that works for all.

모두를 위한 세상을 만들 커다란 기회죠.

But we have been going about this with sameness or conformity.

하지만 지금까지는 세상을 단조롭게, 순응하는 방법으로 만들어 왔습니다.

And leadership, I have said before,

앞서도 말했지만 리더십에서 우리는 순응으로 인한 어려움을 겪어 왔습니다.

we suffer from a crisis of conformity in leadership.

So the only way to disrupt that is to bring difference to bear.

이를 해결할 유일한 방법은 다름을 활용하는 겁니다.

We have to close these gaps in leadership no later than by 2025.

늦어도 2025년 이전에 리더십의 이러한 틈을 메워야 합니다.

It should be on everybody's agenda to close these gaps,

이런 틈을 없애는 일은 모두의 과제가 되어야 합니다.

in every leadership room and every design room, everywhere.

리더십이 이루어지는 모든 공간, 계획을 세우는 모든 공간, 어디서든요.

But we also have to rethink what leadership is.

반면 리더십이 무엇인지도 다시 생각해봐야 합니다.

It is no longer something that comes only from people in positions of power.

리더십은 더이상 권력과 지위가 있는 사람에게서만 나오는 것이 아닙니다.

Leadership is, and has always been, something that is inside out.

리더십이란, 원래부터 내면에서 드러나는 것입니다.

It's in all of us.

모두의 내면에 있습니다.

살면서 우리가 하는 일 중 가장 훌륭한 일은,

And the greatest work we do in life is to unlock it

in service of something that we care about.

중요하게 여기는 일에 이 리더십을 발휘하는 거죠.

And so changing who to change how

변화를 이끌 사람을 바꾸는 것은

is also about changing you to change how.

변화를 이끌 자신을 바꾸는 것이기도 합니다.

And about each of us doing the work to come from the inside out,

또한 내면에 있는 리더십을 꺼내어 발휘하는 것이고

bring our humanity to bear,

인류애를 발휘하고 용기를 발휘하고,

bring our courage to bear,

drop from our heads to our hearts more often.

머리만 쓰기보다는 마음을 더 자주 쓴다는 것이죠.

Because business schools,

경영 교육기관에서

our capitalistic system has trained us

우리의 자본주의적 교육 체계는

overly much on the left brain, left side of our brain only.

좌뇌를 많이 쓰도록 했습니다.

오로지 좌뇌만요.

And we won't be able to calculate our way

그래서 우리는 미래를 계획할 때 현재 상태에서 있어야 할 곳으로

from where we are to where we need to be and excel alone.

어떻게 갈지를 모르고 혼자서 앞서나가려고 합니다.

Technological transformations are critical,

기술적인 변화는 정말 중요하고

and we have a lot of them in place and a lot of them underway.

And we clearly have enough money in the world,

but those things may not be matching up.

The missing piece is transformational leadership.

So we need to drop from our heads to our hearts and unlock courage.

And what we care about and our humanity.

And we need to face the truth:

that our economic system may have served some well for a long time,

may still be serving some,

but has failed to serve the many for quite some time.

So unless we reset and write the rules in our economic system

and align the incentives for the future we're trying to deliver,

Currently our governments are spending 11 million dollars a minute

So we go to Glasgow and we set goals for the future,

and then we go home and we invest in the past.

This is insanity, if I've ever seen it.

So brave leadership matters,

and that's what the B Team leaders are trying to do,

B Team의 리더들이 추구하는 것이기도 하죠.

and we need a lot more people to join us.

But brave leadership in a broken system isn’t going to work,

so we have to write the rules,

we have to change who, to change how.

And I say change who to change how is the transformational lever.

It’s going to help your company become future-fit.

It's going to help unlock the innovation you need.

So it's a lever to lead the transformation.

변화를 이끌 지렛대가 되는 거죠.

But let's not excuse the role of governments.

하지만 정부의 역할을 빼놓을 순 없습니다.

Governments have to write the rules.

정부가 그 원칙을 만들어야 하고 장려책을 만들어야 합니다.

They have to align the incentives.

They have to require business to measure what matters.

기업에 사안을 해결하도록 요구해야 합니다.

PM: Such important actions that must leave us all thinking, though,

PM: 고민에 빠지게 만드는 아주 중요한 일들인데,

what is the one thing that we can do?

우리가 할 수 있는 한 가지는 뭘까요?

우리 친구 매리 로빈슨이 말했었죠.

Our friend Mary Robinson says,

"Make it personal.

“개인적인 일로 삼으세요.” “기후 위기를 내 일로 생각하세요.”

Make the climate crisis personal."

How do we do that?

이 말을 어떻게 실천할 수 있나요?

HT: Well, for me, it's incredibly personal.

HT: 제게는 엄청나게 개인적인 문제입니다.

I carry Mother Earth,

저는 어머니 지구를 갖고 있고,

and I'm now changing it to daughter Earth, around my neck.

목에 걸고 다니면서 이제 딸 지구로 바꾸고 있어요.

It was a gift from my husband and two children.

이 목걸이는 남편과 두 아이들이 준 선물입니다.

But as a CEO of the B Team, as a mom, I care deeply about this.

B Team의 CEO로서, 엄마로서, 저는 정말 많은 관심을 갖고 있습니다.

I care so much about it that I even ran for president at some point.

많은 관심을 갖다 보니 대통령 후보로 나간 적도 있죠.

And I'm just a little girl from Iceland who just thinks

제가 사랑하는 것이 중요하다고 생각하고

that what I care about matters,

and that I can unlock my authentic voice

제 안의 진짜 목소리를 낼 수 있고,

and values in service of a better future.

So can all of us in here.

여러분들 모두 하실 수 있어요.

So bearing that maybe not all of you will want to run for president,

물론 여기 계신 모든 분들이 대선에 나가고 싶지는 않으시겠지만,

but I hope many of you will really think about it

하지만 저는 여러분 모두 한번 생각해보셨으면 해요.

because it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done,

yet the hardest.

I think the first thing I would advise all of you to do

여러분이 가장 우선적으로 하셨으면 하는 것은,

is to drop from your head to your heart and really craft your own compass,

and let your leadership align with that.

여러분의 리더십을 거기에 맞추어 나가는 겁니다.

And then use your voice,

그러고 나서 목소리를 내고, 투표도 하고, 소비도 하세요,

your votes and your wallets, according to that moral compass.

여러분의 도덕적 나침반에 따라서요.

Because as human beings, we know truth from fake news.

이는 인간으로서 가짜 뉴스와 진실을 구분할 수 있기 때문입니다.

We know the work we need to do.

So moral compass, and then use your voice.

It's the most powerful tool we have.

Use your votes and help everybody else have the opportunity to use that.

And use your vote with your feet.

You know, so work for companies and do business with companies

that actually are aligned with your compass.

And then use your wallets.

And ask questions when you're spending money,

when you're investing money, when you're choosing a bank.

You have so much power.
