THINK AND SPEAK IN ENGLISH | Answer any question in English Episode 5

Hey, welcome to episode five of our think and speak in English series.

Now, remember in this series, I give you a simple method that you can use

in order to think like a native English speaker and finally speak English

fluently, like a native English speaker.

And that simple method is the five W's method.

Who what, when, where and why.

And today we're going to continue learning more about this.

Are you ready?

Well, then I'm teacher.

Tiffani let's jump right in.

All right.

So the first scenario we're looking at involves this individual

driving in her car, and let's say the question was asked, would you

rather drive a car or take a bus?

Well, the first w who Christina, what drive a car.

When during the week, where to work and why it is more convenient.

Now, again, you can answer this question very simply.

I'd rather drive a car.

Christina would rather drive a car, but remember, we're trying to help you.

We want you to speak English like a native English speaker.

So I'm teaching you the five W's method.

Now watch what happens when we put all of the information into one sentence.

All right.

So here we go.

All the information we just organized.

Now we have this response during the week, rustiness would rather drive

a car to work because it is more.

We have each of the W's in this response.

Now I do want to look at two words very quickly.

Hold on one second.

I want us to look at this word rather, rather excellent.

Now this word, rather, it's used to show that you prefer to have, or do one thing

more than another in English we say.

So right here, Christina is saying she prefers driving her car to work.

Make sense?

Right.

All right.

What about the last word?

Convenient.

Convenient.

Let's check out that word.

Convenient.

Good again after me convenient.

Excellent.

Now this word just means suitable for your purposes and needs and

causing the least difficulty.

So she would rather, she prefers to drive her car because Hey, it's suitable for

her purposes or for her needs and English.

Again, we say convenience.

Excellent.

So we see that each of the W's from the five W's method can

be found in this response, but I want you to check this out.

We have one way of writing it, using the five W's, but you can actually

write it in more than one way.

So again, check out the response we have, right.

I'm going to use the same five W's and write it three different ways.

Let's check out the first way right here.

This one right here, same information, but now we're riding it a different way

and we're saying it a different way.

Here we go.

Christina said driving a car is more convinced.

So during the week, she usually drives her car to work.

Now this is the initial sentence.

It includes each of the five W's, but so does this one who Christina, what?

Driving a car.

Why it's more convenient when during the week.

Where drives her car to work.

So you see, even though you have all of the five w information organized,

everything's organized, you can still make different sentences

and say things a different way.

Look at the second example during the week, Christina usually drives to.

She says that it is actually more convenient.

I'm saying the same thing, but using different words, you must remember that

you can first organize your thoughts and your response will come out maybe

in a different way from someone else.

But as long as you have the information, that is the key.

That's why we say, think, and then speak in English.

Finally, look at numbers.

Christina has to go to work during the week we have where, and we have when, so

she usually drives because it is more.

Again, we have each of the five W's who, what, when, where and why.

So again, I need you to understand that after you've organized your thoughts,

you can actually make different sentences from the same information.

This is why the five Ws method is so powerful.

So we have the first situation.

What about this next situation?

Can we actually use the five W's to describe this situation?

Let's see the question was when was your best vacation?

Well, who my home girls and I, what went on vacation.

When in 2014, where to an island, why for our spring break.

So we've organized our thoughts.

Remember the first thing you must do is think in English using the five

W's who, what, when, where and why.

And we have all the information regarding this situation.

So how do we turn this into a response here?

We.

My best vacation.

Wasn't 2014.

When I traveled to an island with my home girls for our spring break.

Come on, we have each of the W's from the five W's method.

Who what, when, where and why, but I do want to explain two expressions, one

word, and one expression home girls.

I know you heard me say it with a little bit of emphasis, so.

Does home girl actually mean?

So this is actually slang and it's used to refer to your female friends.

That's right.

It's that simple?

My female friends.

I can say they are my home girls.

You can have home girls and home boys make sense.

Right?

Think about your home.

It's something close to you.

People are close to you, home girls and home boys.

But what about this one spring break?

This is actually a week's vacation for students in the spring, typically

around the Easter timeframe.

So in English we say spring break.

So this makes sense.

We have the five W's method used.

Each of the five W's was found in this response, but how can we use the five W's

and actually have a different response?

All right, let's check it out right here.

So same information again, we're talking about our spring break,

best vacation, 2014, traveled to an island with my home girls.

So can we use the same information and say it a different way?

Well, let's check out number one.

In 2014, my home girls and I went to an island for our spring break.

I can honestly say that it was my best vacation.

Well, we have vacation check.

We have in 2014 check, we have island check.

We have home girls right here, check and we have spring break right here.

So you see, again, everything that was in the first sentence is in the second

example as well, same information, but you can say it a different way.

The same is true for number two for our spring break in 2014, my home

girls and I decided to go on vacation.

We went to an island and it was the best vacation ever.

So what's the point.

You can have the information.

The first part is all about organizing your thoughts, a straw brain right here.

Right?

Imagine this is your brain right here.

All right.

Imagine this is your brain.

You've organized your five W's right?

The who?

What, when, where and why?

Imagine this was who, what, when, where and why?

Well, the thing is you can rearrange the order.

Let's say this is one that is.

Three four and five while the order that the information is in, it can change.

As long as the information is all there, you will have a fluent English response.

So you may decide to do 5, 4, 1, 2, 3.

Well, in the other example, you can do 3, 5, 1, 2, 4.

The order does not matter.

It's all about having the information.

That makes sense.

Right?

Okay.

So let's go to the next example.

We have two situations that both were able to be described, and the questions

answered using the five W's method.

Well, what about this situation?

Right?

We have an individual drinking water.

And if the question came up and the question was, how

often do you drink water?

We'd have to start with the W's who mark, what drinks, water, when all

throughout the day were at work and why.

He usually gets parched when he teaches.

So again, we have a different situation, but we're still using

the five W's because these W's that's where the power lies for you.

Who, what, when, where and why these W's will help you sound like a native English.

So now let's see how taking each w the information we organized.

We can use the information to make our response sound more like a

native English speakers response.

So here we go.

Mark drinks water throughout the day at work, because he usually gets parched.

When he teaches all of the information is found in this sentence.

Now, there are two words I want to explain very.

So the first one I want to explain to you is right here through out

good again throughout excellent.

Now this just means in every part or during the whole period of

time in English, we say through out, so throughout the day, all

day long, he's drinking water.

Now the next one is park.

Could again, parched.

Excellent.

Now this just means extremely thirsty, extremely thirsty.

So mark, whew.

He gets parched during the day because he has to teach all day.

So we say parched in English.

Now we have this response again, each of the five W's is found in the sentence,

but what if we want to change the.

What will that look like?

So again, we have the sentence right here, just like it is on the screen.

I'll take it off the screen right here.

And again, we see the sentence right here.

Mark drinks, water throughout the day at work, because he usually

gets parched when he teaches.

So we have.

Drinks water when, throughout the day where at work.

So first way again, we're just changing the orders, showing you

the key is the five W's method.

You can change the order after you have your thoughts, Oregon.

One mark usually gets parched when he teaches.

So he drinks water throughout the day at work.

All right, mark.

We have it check.

He drinks water.

Now that's towards the end drinks water throughout the day, whereas

that towards the end, but it's there where at work towards the end.

And it usually gets parched when he teaches that's at the beginning.

So we changed the order, but the information is still there.

And that's the key, having all of the information organized

based on the five Ws method.

The same is true for the second example.

And the third example, you'll find each of the five W's we

just, again, change the order.

You can play around with the order.

It doesn't have to be who, what, when, where and why

you can make another one for.

And the other one is going to be second or third.

You can change the order again, the key is having all of the information within

your sentences or within your responses.

That's why this method is so powerful.

Hey, I said it's story time.

All right.

So today's story guys.

Today's story is something that happened when I was about 13 years.

So when I was 13 years old, I was a part of a group at my church called

Pathfinders, kind of like, um, girl Scouts or boy Scouts for church.

Right.

We go on camping trips.

We learned about nature.

We read the Bible, we, we learned, uh, principles and morals.

It was a great program.

I remember one time we went on a camping trip.

There were about maybe 15 young people.

And then about three or four adults.

We had a wonderful time.

Whenever we went camping.

And again, we were 13, 12, 11, like we were all in that

age category, that age group.

So I remember one time it was super hot.

So we wanted to have a big water fight.

Now I've always been a very fun person.

My friends were all very fun, but there was one guy with

us that was kind of quiet.

His nickname was red, red.

If you ever see this video, Best believe.

Remember, I will never ever know that I'll never ever forget this.

So red was kind of a quiet guy, really nice.

So we all had gotten our water balloons and we were going to other

Pathfinders and playing and throwing water balloons and having a good time.

But red wasn't anywhere to be found.

We thought maybe he was reading a book or just relaxing.

But then all of a sudden we saw something out of the corner of our eyes.

We were all tossing little water balloons, but we saw him come

with this huge water balloon.

And I think he had a water.

And all of a sudden this quiet guy turned into Arnold Schwartzenegger and

he just started shooting us with water, guns, tossing water balloons, needless

to say we lost, he won, but we were in such shock because he went from this

quiet guy to, I am the Terminator.

He started attacking each and every one of us.

And he had a straight face, sometimes he'd smile, but he was really attacking us.

But man, did we have such a good.

So even though he seemed like a quiet guy, he was planning

so many things in his mind.
