Silent K Words | Learn English Pronunciation Rules

Hi, this is Bill. And right now I have a very simple pronunciation

video to go through with you. Now, sometimes in English, we have silent letters.

သင်နှင့်အတူ ဖြတ်သန်းရန် အလွန်ရိုးရှင်းသော အသံထွက် ဗီဒီယိုတစ်ခုရှိသည်။ အခုတော့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို အသံတိတ် စာလုံးတွေ ရှိတယ်။

Now, these are letters that appear in a word

အခု၊ အဲဒါတွေက စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးမှာ ပေါ်လာတဲ့ စာလုံးတွေ

but we don't say them when we read that word. so it can be a little difficult when you're

ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် အဲဒီစကားလုံးကို ဖတ်တဲ့အခါမှာတော့ မပြောတတ်ပါဘူး။ ဒါကြောင့်

trying to listen or read. And I'm just going to explain this one idea

နားထောင်ဖို့ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ဖတ်ဖို့ ကြိုးစား တဲ့အခါ အနည်းငယ် ခက်ခဲနိုင်ပါတယ်

to you. And that is ‘k’ before ‘n’ at the

။ ပြီးတော့ ဒီအကြံလေးကို မင်းကို ငါရှင်းပြမယ် ။ ၎င်းသည်

beginning of a word. Now, you can see all the examples behind me.

But of course, in this case, if you see KN at the beginning of a word,

What you want to do is, you just want to think ‘no’.

And you should know this is like, “I know how to speak English.”

“အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုပြောတတ်တယ်” ဆိုတာကို သင်သိထားသင့်ပါတယ်။

Alright. These are the things you ‘know’ how to

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါတွေက သင်သိတဲ့ အရာတွေပါ

d. It's not ‘k-now’.

။ အဲဒါ 'k-now' မဟုတ်ဘူး။

We just know. I know how to do things.

ငါတို့ပဲသိတယ်။ ငါဘယ်လိုလုပ်ရမလဲသိတယ်။

Alright. And then down to ‘knowledge’.

ကောင်းပြီ ပြီးမှ 'ပညာ' တဲ့။

Alright. Again, no ‘K’ sound.

ကောင်းပြီ တစ်ဖန် 'K' အသံ မရှိတော့ပါ။

We have ‘knowledge’. Now, ‘knowledge’ is all the things you know.

ငါတို့မှာ 'ပညာ' ရှိတယ်။ ယခု 'ပညာ' သည် သင်သိသောအရာများဖြစ်သည်။

If you have a lot of knowledge, you're a very smart person.

Or maybe you just don't know about a certain topic.

It's like I have no knowledge about the Chinese language.

တရုတ်ဘာသာစကားနဲ့ ပတ်သက်ပြီး ဗဟုသုတမရှိသလိုပါပဲ။

That's a true thing. I don't know anything.

ဒါအမှန်ပါပဲ။ ကျွန်တော်ဘာမှမသိပါ။

All right. Next, we have ‘knight’.

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ နောက်တစ်ခုက ငါတို့မှာ 'နိုက်' ရှိတယ်။

Now, this is not ‘night time’, like “Oh day is finished. It's night time.”

ယခုအချိန်သည် ညအချိန်မဟုတ်ပေ၊ “အိုးနေ့ ပြီးပြီ။ ညအချိန်ရောက်ပြီ။"

Now, if there's a ‘K’ here, this is like the old style in England.

အခု ဒီမှာ 'K' ရှိရင် ဒါက အင်္ဂလန်ရဲ့ ရှေးပုံစံအတိုင်းပါပဲ။

Like King Arthur and his knights. And they wear the armor and fight with swords.

We also have this one here. ‘knew’

Okay Now, ‘knew’ is just the past tense of

ဟုတ်ပြီ 'သိတယ်' ဆိုတာ

‘know’. It's okay, like “Many years ago, I knew

'သိတယ်' ရဲ့ အတိတ်ကာလပဲလေ။ “လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့နှစ်ပေါင်းများစွာက

someone named Paul.” Alright.

ပေါလ်လို့ခေါ်တဲ့ လူတစ်ယောက်ကို ငါသိခဲ့တယ်” ကဲ့သို့ပင်။ ကောင်းပြီ

That was in the past. I don't know him anymore but I knew him many

We also have ‘knee’. That's a, that one right there.

'ဒူး' လည်းရှိတယ်။ အဲဒါက ဟိုမှာ။

Okay. It's like that middle part of your leg, where

ဟုတ်ပြီ မင်းခြေထောက်က ကွေးနေတဲ့ မင်း

your leg bends. That's the ‘knee’.

ခြေထောက်ရဲ့ အလယ်အစိတ်နဲ့တူတယ် ။ အဲဒါ 'ဒူး'။

Again, not ‘k-nee'. Remember that.

တဖန် 'k-nee' မဟုတ်ပါ။ အဲဒါကို သတိရပါ။

Now, ‘kneel’. Very similar to ‘knee’.

အခု 'ဒူးထောက်'။ 'ဒူး' နှင့် အလွန်တူသည်။

Just plus an ‘L’. Now ‘kneel’.

'L' နဲ့ ပေါင်းလိုက်ရုံပါပဲ။ အခု 'ဒူးထောက်'။

It's now sometimes people sit down on a chair, but then kneel just means to go down on your

knees. Okay.

Down on your knees. Okay.

ဒူးထောက်လျက်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

Another one, ‘knife’. Very simple.

နောက်တစ်ယောက်က 'ဓား'။ အလွန်ရိုးရှင်းပါသည်။

You have to cut something. ‘knife’

တစ်ခုခုကို ဖြတ်ရမယ်။ 'ဓား'

Okay. If you ever cook food or prepare food you

ဟုတ်ပြီ။ အစားအသောက် ချက်ပြုတ်ဖူးတာ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အစားအသောက်ပြင်ဆင်ရင်

might need a knife to cut your vegetables. So remember, not ‘K-nife’, just ‘knife’.

အသီးအရွက်တွေကို လှီးဖြတ်ဖို့ ဓားတစ်ချောင်းလိုပါတယ်။ ဒါကြောင့် 'K-nife' မဟုတ်ဘဲ 'ဓား' ကိုသာ သတိရပါ။

After that, another example is ‘knit’. Okay.

အဲဒီနောက်၊ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာတစ်ခုကတော့ 'knit' ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

You know if you have a handmade scarf or maybe a handmade sweater that means you knit the

scarf. Okay.

It's the old style - making a scarf. You knit the scarf - handmade style.

ပဝါလုပ်ခြင်းသည် ရှေးပုံစံဖြစ်သည်။ ပဝါ - လက်လုပ်စတိုင်လ်ကို သင်ချည်လိုက်ပါ။

Alright. Then there's ‘knob’.

ကောင်းပြီ ပြီးရင် 'ခလုတ်' ရှိတယ်။

All right. Now ‘knob’ is on some doors.

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ ယခုအခါ တံခါးအချို့တွင် 'ခလုတ်' ရှိသည်။

Some doors have a handle, but some doors have a knob.

အချို့တံခါးများတွင် လက်ကိုင်ပါရှိသော်လည်း အချို့တံခါးများတွင် လက်ကိုင်ခလုတ်ရှိသည်။

And this is you grab it and just turn it. It's almost like a ball shape.

ဒါက မင်းဖမ်းပြီး လှည့်လိုက်ရုံပဲ။ ၎င်းသည် ဘောလုံးပုံသဏ္ဍာန်နီးပါးဖြစ်သည်။

Grab the knob. Turn the knob. It's good thing.

လက်ကိုင်ဖု။ ခလုတ်ကိုဖွင့်ပါ။ ကောင်းတယ်ဗျ။

All right. Also for a door, you have ‘knock’.

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ တံခါးတစ်ချပ်မှာလည်း 'ခေါက်' ရှိတယ်။

This is ‘knock knock’. Anybody home?

ဒါက 'ခေါက်ခေါက်'။ အိမ်မှာဘယ်သူလဲ

Alright. You're going to visit your friend.

ကောင်းပြီ မင်းသူငယ်ချင်းဆီ သွားလည်မယ်။

Don't just open the door. Well maybe but it's polite - knock knock.

တံခါးကို မဖွင့်လိုက်ပါနဲ့။ ကောင်းပြီ ဒါပေမယ် အဲဒါ ယဉ်ကျေးတယ် - ခေါက်ခေါက်။

Then someone will come and open the door for you.

အဲဒီအခါမှာ တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က မင်းအတွက် တံခါးလာဖွင့်ပေးလိမ့်မယ်။

Okay. Then, we also have ‘knot’.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ပြီးတော့ ငါတို့မှာလည်း 'ကြိုး' ရှိတယ်။

Okay. Now, this isn't like, “I am NOT going home.”

ဟုတ်ပြီ အခုတော့ "ငါ အိမ်မပြန်ဘူး" လို့ မကြိုက်ဘူး။ နံပါတ် 'k'၊ 'knot' သည်

No. with a ‘k', ‘knot’ is kind of like when

သင့်ဖိနပ်ကဲ့သို့ တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကို ချည်နှောင်ထားသည့်

you tie something like your shoes. Okay.

You take your shoe strings and you tie them into a knot so that they don't fall down,

သင့်ဖိနပ်ကို ကြိုးဖြင့်ချည်ပါ။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

And then down here we have ‘knuckle’. All right.

ပြီးတော့ ဒီမှာ 'လက်ဆစ်' ရှိတယ်။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

‘knuckle’ Kind of like how ‘knee’ is on your leg,

'လက်ဆစ်' သင့်ခြေထောက်ပေါ်တွင် 'ဒူး' နှင့်တူသော

a ‘knuckle’ is on your finger. All right.

'လက်ဆစ်' သည် သင့်လက်ချောင်းပေါ်တွင် ရှိနေသည်။ ကောင်းပါပြီ။

Right there where your fingers bend. Those are my knuckles.

မင်းလက်ချောင်းတွေ ကိုင်းနေတဲ့နေရာ။ အဲဒါတွေက ငါ့လက်ဆစ်တွေ။

All right. So as you can see here, there's many words.

ကောင်းပါပြီ။ ဒီမှာမြင်တဲ့အတိုင်း စကားလုံးတွေအများကြီးရှိတယ်။

There's more than these, but these are just 12 of these words,

အဲဒါတွေထက် ပိုရှိတယ်၊ ဒါပေမယ့် အဲဒါတွေက 'K' နဲ့စတဲ့

where it starts with ‘K’ but we can't say the ‘K’.

ဒီစကားလုံး 12 လုံးပဲရှိ ပေမယ့် 'K' လို့ မပြောနိုင်ပါဘူး။

Well can't? We just don't say the ‘K’ or… it's you're going to look silly.

မရဘူး? ငါတို့က 'K' လို့ မပြောဘူး ဒါမှမဟုတ်... မင်း မိုက်နေလိမ့်မယ်။
