Now it's not so much a speaking mistake,

but it's a writing - a spelling mistake

that a lot of students make  and I want you to fix it.

많은 학생들이 저지르는 철자 오류입니다. 수정해 주셨으면 합니다.

It's the difference between 'than' t-h-a-n and 'then' t-h-e-n.

'보다' t-h-a-n 과 '그때' t-h-e-n의 차이입니다.

Now as you can hear the sound  is practically the same,

이제 들을 수 있듯이 소리는 거의 같지만

but the spelling is different.

철자가 다릅니다.

so you need to know the difference.

그래서 차이점을 알아야 합니다.

Let's take a look at two example sentences.

두 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

First we have, "John is taller than Sarah."

먼저 "John은 Sarah보다 키가 큽니다."

So in this case, we have 'than' t-h-a-n.

따라서 이 경우에는 'than'이 있습니다.

Which is a word that we use for comparisons okay.

우리가 비교를 위해 사용하는 단어입니다.

When we want to compare two things.

두 가지를 비교하고 싶을 때.

John is taller than Sarah.

John은 Sarah보다 키가 큽니다.

I am more beautiful than you.

나는 당신보다 더 아름답습니다.

In this case, you will use t-h-a-n.

이 경우 t-h-a-n을 사용합니다.

Now if we look at the second sentence.

I went to school, then I went home.

나는 학교에 갔다가 집에 갔다.

Now in this case, 'then' is spelled t-h-e-n

이 경우 'then'은 철자가 t-h-e-n

and has a very different meaning.

We use 'then' t-h-e-n as a word to mark a sequence of actions.

So it's a time word that we use in English.
