And in this video, I'm gonna talk to you about the ‘Silent B’ letter in English.

Now, there are many words containing the letter B

And sometimes, for some reason, this B is silent.

Now, let's take a few examples.

First, we have the word ‘climb’.

Now there's a ‘b’.

You can see it when you spell the word,

it ends with the letter ‘B’.

But can you hear it?

Listen to me. ‘climb’.

No, you can't. You can't hear the letter ‘B’.

Because it's a silent 'B’.

Another example,

別の例として、

would be the word ‘bomb’.

「爆弾」という単語があります。

I know you're thinking of the spelling.

私はあなたがスペルを考えていることを知っています。

There's a ‘B’ at the end of this word.

この単語の最後に「B」があります。

But again, it's a silent B.

In fact, most of the time in English, when a short word ends with the letters ‘mb',

the ‘b’ is silent.

Now another example,

Now for longer words, again, the letter ‘B’

is sometimes silent, not always.

For example, if I say the word ‘plumber’,

it's a silent B.

It's not pronounced ‘plum-ber'. It's spelled with a ‘B’, but the ‘B’ is silent.

But, if I say the word ‘crumble’,

the ‘b’ is not silent.

You can clearly hear the sound ‘b’, ‘crumble’.

So it's not always silent.

Another example would be the word ‘subtle’.

Now ‘subtle’ is spelled with a ‘B’, but the ‘B’ is silent.

Unlike the word ‘subtext‘, ‘subtext’ is spelled with a ‘B’,

but the ‘B’ is pronounced.
