English Conversation Practice (Laid Off) 💼

Hey, how are you?

안녕하세요?

Honestly not very good. Last week I was laid off. 

솔직히 별로 좋지는 않습니다. 지난주에 나는 해고되었습니다.

We use the word 'fired' when someone  is let go from their job for poor  

누군가가 실적이 좋지 않거나 뭔가 잘못하여 직장에서 해고된 경우 '해고됨'이라는 단어를 사용합니다.

performance or for doing something wrong. But we usually use 'laid off' when it

wasn't the person's fault but the company  was downsizing or something like that. 

그 사람의 잘못은 아니었지만 회사가 규모를 축소했거나 그와 비슷한 경우에는 '해고됨'을 사용합니다.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that.

맙소사, 그 말을 들으니 정말 안타깝습니다.

Yeah, it's a huge bummer, my whole team was let go.
