English Speaking Practice for Daily Use (Family life) Conversation to Improve English Skills

hey Brian that exam was very  difficult did you finish

it yeah it was difficult Charlie but happily  I could finish on time what about you yeah  

me too oh this is my father that this  is Brian my best friend in the school

good afternoon Mr Thompson  nice to meet you oh this is my

dad good afternoon Mr Rivera it looks like  we're both here a bit early to pick up our

kids it's a pleasure to finally meet you  Charlie tells me a lot about his best friend

Brian good afternoon Mr Thompson  nice to meet you Charlie yeah

finally so Mr Ribera how are things  at home raising kids today seems so

different from when I was young I raised David  with simple rules like respecting Elders doing

chores and reading books after school  no phones no tablets just learning on  

the oldfashioned way I know what  you mean Mr Thompson things have  

changed a lot believe me at my house Brian  is allowed to use his tablet for educational

games and he even takes online classes  

to learn learn new things he's  learning how to play the guitar

now I think technology helps him  get smarter and prepares him for the

future yeah that's right I saw you playing  the guitar that why don't I have a tablet like

Brian because David I believe you learned  better by using your hands and mind not

screens remember how we built that  bird house last weekend it was fun

right my dad lets me play games where  I build things too like houses and

cities of course I know it's not the  same as real wood but but it's still

cool that's interesting Brian but I worry  that kids lose patience and focus with too  

much screen time when I was your age my  parents taught me to play outside read

books and help around the house  it taught me discipline it was

important discipline is important  Mr Thompson but kids today need to  

know how to use technology it's everywhere now  Brian learns to code simple programs and even

makes little projects for a school he's learning  skills that might help him find a good job one day

day I showed my teacher a game I made  last week and she said it was very

creative seriously wow that sounds  fun I want to try that too sounds

interesting I guess there is some value in  learning these new things but I'm not sure

how much is Too Much Charlie and I play  board games together and he helps me cook

dinner I believe those moments teach him  practical skills and how to work with

others we do those things sometimes  but we also use technology together

last weekend Brian and I looked  up a recipe on the tablet and made

cookies he read the steps and I helped  him measure the ingredients it was fun and

educational I love cookies I would like  to try making some too can we do that Dad

maybe we should Charlie it  sounds like it could be fun  

but first things first you still need  to finish reading that book we started

remember you know Mr Ribera while I see  some benefits in technology I still believe  

the traditional way of raising a  child builds a stronger character for

example when David helps me around  the house or reads a book he learns

patience and real life problem  solving not just quick answers from a

screen I I respect that Mr Thompson  but I think the world is changing too

fast I mean if we don't prepare our  kids to use technology they might fall

behind Brian knows how to communicate online  research information and even create things

digitally this prepares him for a  future where everything is connected and

fastpaced but what about the values Mr  Rivera in my opinion all this speed and

Technology can make children forget  about respect face Toof face uh

conversations and real social skills when  I teach Charlie to look someone in the

eye and shake their hand firmly  it's something technology just can't

teach I agree that social skills are important  but kids can learn those while using technology  

to Brian uses video calls to talk to his  grandparents and shows them what he's

learned what I mean is it's not just playing  video games it's connecting with people in  

new ways he learns to express himself and  listen even if it's through a screen it  

works well all right but don't you think  too much screen time can lead to a lack of

focus Charlie for example reads and  plays outside which keeps him active and

sharp I worry that kids who use screens all  day will struggle to concentrate on one thing  

at a time that's a fair point it's true that  too much screen time isn't healthy and I do  

set limits but I think the answer is not to  avoid technology alog together but to teach  

him how to balance it Brian he still plays  soccer outside and helps me with the small  

tasks at home I just want him to be ready for  a world where knowing how to use Tech is is

essential that I still like playing soccer with  my friends after school it's not all about a

tablet yeah and I want to try some of the  games Brian talks about maybe it's not so bad

dad um maybe I am being a bit strict it's  just that I want Charlie to grow up with  

strong values and not depend on  gadgets I am sure you understand

that yes of course and I want Brian to  be a well-rounded person who respect  

people and knows how to handle life  without screen when needed Maybe

maybe we're both aiming for the same  thing but with different methods don't you

think you might be right perhaps the best way is  to combine our approaches teach them disciplined  

and Real World skills but also introduce  them to technology in a controlled way

we can learn from each other's parenting  Styles and give our kids The Best of Both

Worlds a mix of tradition and modern  methods could be what makes them strong and

adaptable does that mean we can  play together um Mr Thompson please

maybe I can show Charlie how to use  a game and he can show me a board

game yeah that will be awesome please Dad can

we I think that's a great idea boys  let's show them how balance really works

or maybe not what do you think  guys what do you think it's
