3 lesson starters for teachers

Hello guys.

First moments of the class are always key to

engage your students and have success in a lesson.

If you have run out of ideas for activities to start a lesson,

don’t panic.

Today I want to share with you three activities that work for

both on site and online lessons.

This is one of my favourite activities.

It's a good idea for getting to know more about

your students and for them to get to know each other.

It is also a perfect opportunity to practice

speaking and grammar.

The idea of the game is that each person tells

three facts about themselves.

Two of them must be true, but one of them must be a lie.

Everyone else will do their best to guess which the lie is.

Depending on the level of difficulty, you can ask

them to tell facts related to past experiences, likes,

dislikes, and so on.

You can refine the activity, if you have a large number

of students, by grouping them and asking them at the end of

the exercise for the lies they found out about their partners.

This is a fun and exciting activity that will encourage

your students to remember as much vocabulary as fast

as they can.

The idea of it is for you to prepare some cards

or slides that say, name three something.

Name three foods, name three words that

start with C, name three objects you find at school.

Students will have 60 seconds to write in the chat or say aloud

the three things being asked.

If you want to get your students focussed,

this is the activity for you.

Students will practice their vocabulary, and if you

lead the activity to grammar, they will even practice parts

of the speech.

It is also a great exercise to introduce a new topic to.

It depends on what you want to present.

First, you will need to think about a category,

for example, fruits.

Think about different fruits.

Let's say you write, apple, bananas, watermelon and mango.

Now, you have to add a word that doesn't belong to the

category you thought about, in this case, fruits.

You add cheese.

You will present this list to the students and ask

them to find a word that doesn't belong to the list.

They will have to look at the different words

and infer the category.

Once they have guessed it, they will have to identify

which one is not a fruit.

Let's see an example using grammar.

Look very well at the words.

Identify if they're a noun, an objective, a verb,

or an adverb, and find the intruder.

If you chose plain then you’ve got it.

Run, sleep and eat are all actions, while plain

is an adjective or even a noun.

Those were my suggestions for lesson starter activities.
