Word, Phrase & Clause: What's the Difference? 👩‍🏫 English Grammar

to know that I believe everyone should  know at least a little bit of grammar.  

誰もが少なくとも少しは文法を知っているべきだと私が信じていることを知っても驚かないでしょう 。

Grammar is all about patterns, and following the  usual patterns helps us have clear communication.

文法はパターンがすべて です。通常のパターンに従うことで、明確なコミュニケーションができます。

What's the difference between a word and a  phrase? A word is a single piece of language:  

単語とフレーズの違いは何 ですか? 単語は 1 つの言語です。

cat, girl, sing, singing, beautiful,  beautifully, to, from, here.

cat、girl、sing、singing、beautiful、 beautiful、to、from、here.

A phrase is a group of two or  more words: a beautiful girl,

フレーズとは、2 つ 以上の単語のグループです。美しい女の子、

sing beautifully.

美しく歌います。

for me.

私のため。

Phrases aren't complete ideas. They  don't have both a subject and a verb.  

フレーズは完全なアイデアではありません。 主語と動詞の両方がありません。

Sometimes we speak in phrases if the rest is  understood. What do you see? A pretty cat.

残りの部分が理解できる場合は、フレーズで話すこともあり ます。 何が見えますか？ かわいい猫。

There are different kinds of  phrases. We can have a noun phrase,

さまざまな種類の フレーズがあります。 名詞句

a verb phrase,

、動詞句

a prepositional phrase,

、前置詞句、

an infinitive phrase,

不定詞句

a gerund phrase.

、動名詞句を使用できます。

There are other kinds of phrases, but  remember that no phrase is a complete idea.

他の種類のフレーズもあり ますが、どのフレーズも完全なアイデアではないことに注意してください。

A clause is a group of words with a subject  and a verb. Clauses can be short or long:

句は、主語と動詞を含む単語のグループです 。 句は短くても長くてもかまいませ

The girls sang.

ん。女の子が歌いました。

Songs entertain us.

歌は私たちを楽しませてくれます。

Birds are common pets in many  countries around the world.

鳥は世界中の多くの国で一般的なペット です。

Inside a clause, you may find a number of phrases.

句の中には、いくつかのフレーズがあります。

Some clauses can stand alone. We call them  independent clauses. An independent clause  

一部の句は単独で使用できます。 これらを独立条項と呼んでいます 。 独立節

is a simple sentence. Other  clauses are dependent clauses.  

は単純な文です。 その他の 条項は従属条項です。

We have to join these dependent clauses with an  independent clause to form a complete sentence.

完全な文を形成するには、これらの従属節を 独立節と結合する必要があります。

A and D are independent clauses. They  can stand alone as complete sentences.

It's a traditional Chinese  dance. I wanted to learn.

これは中国の伝統 舞踊です。 学びたかった。

B and C are dependent clauses.  These are adverb clauses.  

B と C は従属節です。 これらは副詞節です。 完全な文を形成

They have to join with independent  clauses to form a complete sentence.

するには、独立句と結合する必要があり ます。
