Word, Phrase & Clause: What's the Difference? 👩‍🏫 English Grammar

to know that I believe everyone should  know at least a little bit of grammar.  

모든 사람이 최소한의 문법은 알고 있어야 한다고 생각합니다.

Grammar is all about patterns, and following the  usual patterns helps us have clear communication.

문법은 패턴에 관한 것이며 일반적인 패턴을 따르는 것은 명확한 의사소통에 도움이 됩니다.

What's the difference between a word and a  phrase? A word is a single piece of language:  

단어와 구의 차이점은 무엇인가요 ? 단어는 언어의 단일 조각입니다.

cat, girl, sing, singing, beautiful,  beautifully, to, from, here.

고양이, 소녀, 노래, 노래, 아름다운, 아름답게, 여기에서.

A phrase is a group of two or  more words: a beautiful girl,

문구는 두 개 이상의 단어 그룹입니다 . 아름다운 소녀,

sing beautifully.

아름답게 노래합니다.

for me.

나를 위한.

Phrases aren't complete ideas. They  don't have both a subject and a verb.  

문구는 완전한 아이디어가 아닙니다. 주제와 동사가 모두 없습니다.

Sometimes we speak in phrases if the rest is  understood. What do you see? A pretty cat.

때때로 우리는 나머지가 이해되면 문구로 말합니다 . 당신은 무엇을 볼 수 있습니까? 예쁜 고양이.

There are different kinds of  phrases. We can have a noun phrase,

다양한 종류의 구문이 있습니다. 우리는 명사구,

a verb phrase,

동사구,

a prepositional phrase,

전치사구,

an infinitive phrase,

부정사구,

a gerund phrase.

동명사구를 가질 수 있습니다.

There are other kinds of phrases, but  remember that no phrase is a complete idea.

다른 종류의 문구가 있지만 어떤 문구도 완전한 아이디어가 아님을 기억하세요.

A clause is a group of words with a subject  and a verb. Clauses can be short or long:

절은 주어와 동사가 있는 단어 그룹입니다 . 절은 짧거나 길 수 있습니다.

The girls sang.

소녀들이 노래를 불렀습니다.

Songs entertain us.

노래는 우리를 즐겁게 합니다.

Birds are common pets in many  countries around the world.

새는 전 세계 여러 국가에서 일반적인 애완동물입니다 .

Inside a clause, you may find a number of phrases.

절 안에 여러 문구가 있을 수 있습니다.

Some clauses can stand alone. We call them  independent clauses. An independent clause  

일부 절은 단독으로 사용할 수 있습니다. 이를 독립 조항이라고 합니다. 독립절은

is a simple sentence. Other  clauses are dependent clauses.  

간단한 문장입니다. 다른 절은 종속절입니다. 완전한 문장을 형성하려면

We have to join these dependent clauses with an  independent clause to form a complete sentence.

이러한 종속절을 독립절과 결합해야 합니다 . 이것으로

A and D are independent clauses. They  can stand alone as complete sentences.  

A와 D는 독립절입니다. 완전한 문장으로 단독으로 사용할 수 있습니다.

It's a traditional Chinese  dance. I wanted to learn.

중국 전통 춤입니다. 나는 배우고 싶었다.

B and C are dependent clauses.  These are adverb clauses.  

B와 C는 종속절입니다. 이것들은 부사절입니다. 완전한 문장을 형성하려면

They have to join with independent  clauses to form a complete sentence.

독립 절과 결합해야 합니다 .
