The only method I use to remember vocabulary in 3+ languages

if you struggle to memorize new words in the  foreign language you're learning you clicked  

on the Right video today I will share one method  that I Ed to memorize new words in English Spanish  

Chinese and honestly I would continue using this  one approach for every future language I want to  

learn my Approach includes three steps a lot of  input a lot of output and active recall let's  

start the video by talking about the first  point a lot of input and here I have to make  

this important note I'm talking about input that  you you enjoy information that you're genuinely  

interested in because it's something that I  experienced when I was in college and I was  

learning Chinese because my major in college  was the Chinese language I had to memorize a  

lot of texts connected to economy oil and gas and  honestly that was not the input I was interested  

in and that's why my Chinese was honestly  not improving that fast because I spent 5  

years in college now if I spent 5 Years Learning  foreign language actively I'm definitely going to  

become Advanced but in college I did not become  Advanced I probably got to this like B2 level  

maybe sometimes C1 but normally B2 and so input  meaning information that you can understand and  

that you're interested in is so crucial because  of context words stick in your brain a lot better  

when we try to isolate words from Context and  only focus on on translation for example what  

might happen is you forget how to use the word or  phrase in a sentence and because of that this word  

becomes basically unusable useless our brains  tend to remember words and phrases that we are  

likely to use vocabulary used in a context we  find exciting or are passionate about is more  

memorable if I watch a YouTube video on nuclear  energy in English most likely I'm not going to  

remember any new words from there just because  this topic does not accept me however I remember  

when I was in college at one point I became  so interested in space like I was reading  

a lot of books I was watching a lot of movies  documentaries and English everything connected  

to space spaceships I don't know rockets and stuff  like that and of course there were a lot of words  

I didn't know but I learned all of these words  extremely fast because it was the input that I  

loved and I was excited about and so because  of that the vocabulary became more memorable  

you can also make a list of all the topics that  you're interested in and you want to learn more  

about for example let's say you're interested  in rock climbing so you can learn a lot of new  

words and Concepts about this topic like hardness  Boulder and anchor for example but because you're  

naturally interested in this topic you're going  to learn all of these words way faster if you  

love traveling you probably talk a lot about your  trips and experiences and plus it's a great way to  

learn new words in a foreign language and with  fur's Luts you can create unique color effects  

for each location you have visited evoking the  unique atmosphere and emotional experience of  

the destination for your audience let me walk you  through how to do it as you can see I have all of  

my Clips exported in the timeline and if I go to  color on the right I can change the settings of  

the clip very easily just like this so if I want  to do all the color correction by myself I can  

do it just by using all of these settings but I  can also go up here and choose a preset and in  

the filming World presets are called Luts just  by hovering over every single preset I can see  

what it will look like on my clip okay I think  for this clip I'm going to choose the TV preset  

I can also choose one of the L presets right here  as well for example let me choose my second clip  

and I'll be able to choose an option from here  let's say and change the intensity if I feel  

like the preset is a little bit too strong if I  want to copy the settings of my clip all I have  

to do is rightclick the clip and then copy the  effects and paste them onto my second clip just  

like this and now these two clips have the same  edits this is the before and this is the after

of memorizing vocabulary in foreign languages is  a lot of output one of the most effective ways  

to memorize new words is to use them in real  communication we all know this phrase if you  

don't use it you lose it so when you're learning  a new word try incorporating it immediately into  

a sentence or even a small dialogue and I always  say it's even better if it's connected to your  

life Maybe your relatives your friends or maybe  something you're interested in again using the  

example of rock climbing let's say I watched a  video about rock climbing because right now I  

became interested in rock climbing and so then  I can Journal about it for example and use all  

of the new words like Boulder anchor and hardness  in my text this will help you remember the words  

better and also use them in context and obviously  because right now you're producing everything your  

training your brain to be able to retrieve this  information not just memorize it and forget it  

but actually retrieve the information and use it  in real life and we can easily put any word in  

context and connect it to our lives if we journal  in a foreign language let's say you're trying to  

learn this new word soothing so first you have to  understand how to pronounce this word correctly  

you can look it up on foro for example and then  you need to know what this word actually means  

soothing means calm coming comforting evoking a  sense of warmth and relaxation and you can use any  

dictionary any online dictionary for that or even  Chad or perplexity and then what I usually do is I  

use AI to help me create this sentence or a small  text using this word for example this is what Chad  

PT came up with my grandma's soothing voice always  brings me comfort and peace and for the record  

it is true like I asked chpt to create a sentence  about my grandma because it's true my grandma does  

have a soothing voice but maybe at this particular  moment I don't feel like creating anything myself  

for example or I don't have any ideas I know that  my grandma has a soothing voice but I don't want  

this video to be this short right I don't want to  just write okay my Grandma has a soothing voice  

and that's it well maybe sometimes it's okay but  sometimes when I want the sentence to be a little  

bit more creative I will use Ai and finally  let's talk about active recall active recall  

is practically when you retrieve information  actively from your brain this retrieval practice  

is a learning strategy where we focus on getting  information out of our heads retrieval practice  

is very effective because again you're pulling  information out of your head instead of cramming  

information into your head and as I mentioned  before input is a very big part of the learning  

process for sure but you do have to teach yourself  how to retrieve all this information how to pull  

all of this information out of your mind if you're  interested in linguistics and this retrieval  

practice you can look up this guy's name Jeffrey  karpicki and look at his research because he has  

done a lot of research on this topic why active  recall is extremely effective when it comes to  

processing new information and when it comes to  language learning flash cards are a very powerful  

approach to memorize new words new sentences  new phrases and even grammar I personally  

prefer digital flash cards to Old School paper  ones but if you like creating your own paper  

flash cards do it too I just think that digital  flashcards are first environmentally friendly and  

also most importantly they can be used anywhere  at any time you go on vacation you have some free  

time you just open your phone and you're like  okay let me revise my flashcards the apps that  

I know a lot of people use here are Quizlet and  Anki Quizlet looks a little bit more fun and it  

definitely has more game likee features whereas  Anki is built on the spaced repetition algorithm  

yes maybe the interface of the app is not that  pretty but I personally use the app not because  

of the interface but because it's effective  because it helps me learn new words so that's  

why I personally use Anki important comment that  I have to make here is that one of the most common  

mistakes of language Learners is to learn all the  words they come across for example you're reading  

a book and you see a word like a random word and  you like okay I definitely need to memorize it I  

need to memorize every single word I see and  I think the words you should remember should  

really depend on your goals and on the life that  you plan to have in this language if you almost  

never read classical literature and now you're  reading Hamlet for example you probably don't  

need a lot of words from there but if you're  a dieh hard fan of classical literature yeah  

maybe you should memorize a few words from there  because they might help you in the future read  

other books so please always be more mindful  about all the vocabulary you're learning I think
