tell you what is happening because we have so much coming in today's live stream we have

mr. Steve who will be talking about his busy week in the garage in fact we will be going

live to take a look at what mr. Steve has been up to in his little garage during the

past week also because we couldn't do it last week we will be talking all about words to

do with hospital the departments of hospitals and also the different types of treatment

you can get in a hospital mr. Steve will be here talking all about time words and idioms

to do with time and can you see behind me there are some lovely bird feeders hanging

behind me we will be talking about birds a lot today because spring is here and all of

the birds are busily building their nests and preparing to lay those eggs also you are

more than welcome to join in as well on the live chat because that is why we are here

bit late today I'm sorry about that but unfortunately I had to run to the toilet very quickly so

that's why I'm late I think that is a pretty good excuse for being late for your life's

dream so sadly I had to dash to the toilet but now I'm here so there you go I hope you

are feeling comfortable and I hope you enjoyed all that information that I just shared with

you Sunday it's a fun day yes it's English in your ear for a Sunday afternoon I hope

you are feeling Super Duper a very busy week around the world a very busy week here as

well mr. Steve was off work last week he was resting even though it seemed as if he wasn't

doing much resting to be honest mr. Steve can I let you in on a little secret about

Steve he isn't very good at resting he doesn't like to sit around doing nothing he becomes

very restless when he's sitting around doing nothing he doesn't like it so mr. Steve was

off last week he had a week's holiday but he was doing all sorts of things which leads

me to the thing I want to mention now because later on we are going to go live to the guy

edge so here it is at the moment here is a live view of the garage so there it is right

now as there is a live view so we will be going live to the garage a little bit later

on around about three o'clock we'll be doing that I don't know what time it is where you

are in the world but I hope this Sunday finds you feeling super duper can I first start

off with a sad note no Belarus ear today because sadly her mother was rushed into hospital

during the week so I'm sure you will all join me in wishing Belarus ears mother all the

best so I don't think Belarus here will be here today sadly but all the best to your

that live nearby now I did mention cats last week and dogs as well I mentioned cats and

dogs last week so I think that might be the reason why Pedro has sent these pictures and

here is another picture taken by Pedro Pedro took these pictures during the week so they

are next doors cats apparently and it looks as if now I'm going to guess that that might

be that looks like a kitten feeding so I think it looks as if these are kittens so these

two photographs are kittens and there you can see the mother feeding one of her kittens

isn't that lovely so thanks for that Pedro I do appreciate it when you send things in

you will know that I am NOT a very big fan of cats I don't like them very much to be

honest so no I'm not a big fan of cats or dogs as I mentioned last week now I don't

really hate dogs because mr. Steve got very angry last week after we finished the live

stream he said you shouldn't have said that you hate dogs now I am one of those people

who tends to avoid getting emotional about things and I remember one memory in fact there

might be two memories that are in the back of my head that I always think about when

I think about dogs and one of those memories concerns the dog that we used to own when

I was a child and sadly that particular dog died and I was very upset and the other memory

concerns my time in China when I had a dog there sadly someone stole that dog someone

decided to steal it so I lost my dog in China someone actually stole it so I think really

maybe I am I'm just pretending maybe I'm just covering for the fact that I hate dogs but

maybe deep down I really live them mmm maybe that's what's going on there a bit of psychoanalysis

for a Sunday afternoon let's have a look outside shall we because it's lovely and we are talking

about birds today so I thought let's have a live camera pointed at the bird feeder and

there it is so that is a view right now outside now earlier there were loads and loads of

birds flying around but of course now I have my camera turned on all the birds have disappeared

but there were birds there earlier honestly would you like to see some bird pictures oh

there are some birds now so there you can see that's a goldfinch you can see a goldfinch

and oh that looks like a Robin there's a Robin and the other bird that's just landed on the

peanuts is a great tit so the birds are returning I think sometimes they they can be very shy

anyway that's what I'm saying anyway they can be little it shy would you like to have

a look at some shots of the birds because at the moment the birds are preparing to build

their nests so let's have a look at some lovely nature shots because between you and me I

get very excited by these sorts of images so here you can see this particular video

is showing something rather interesting keep watching it will appear at any moment yes

there it is it is a magpie but what is it doing what is that magpie doing it is actually

collecting things for its nest so what it's trying to do is pick some material with which

to make its nest and that is what it's doing there in fact there are two there are two

Magpies look at that so I'm going to guess that there is a male and female and both of

them are collecting material for building their nest so they can raise some chicks some

baby Magpies would you like to see a black bird building its nest or collecting material

for its nest okay let's have a look here we go can you see the black bird it will appear

at any moment there it is so there is a black bird collecting some material so it can build

its nest and this was filmed this was filmed last year in my garden during the springtime

isn't that wonderful so there you can see a black bird gathering some material so it

can go back and build its nest and here is another shot isn't that lovely so there you

can see the Blackbird collecting some old leaves isn't that amazing there's one thing

I've noticed about birds they are very ingenious they are very clever they are very good at

finding things especially in our garden because there's a lot of vegetation plants trees all

sorts of things so that might be the reason why would you like to see a black bird's nest

okay let's have a look at the nest in question so this is a black bird's nest you will be

happy to hear that that one is not being used so that is a nest that the black bird was

living in but now it has left it has flown the nest and of course we can't talk about

birds without showing you the inside of a nest would you like to see the inside here

is the inside of a bird's nest and any moment now you will see a bird in the nest and this

particular shot shows I think it's a blue tit and it's actually building its nest so

this is a natural shot filmed inside a bird box a natural bird's nest isn't that lovely

it's it's looking at the camera I think it knows that it's being filmed and here's another

shot and yes you can see it is collecting material just like the Blackbird collecting

lots of material with which to build its nests would you like to see some little chicks in

the nest okay then this is the same nest a couple of weeks later and there you can see

the chicks are actually now in the nest they have hatched from their eggs and they are

now growing in the nest it's not lovely I love springtime so much I really do I think

spring is such a magical time of year for many reasons for various reasons I love spring

very much but I think one of the main reasons is because all the birds start building their

nests they get ready for the arrival of spring and the arrival of their babies as well so

I hope you enjoyed that wasn't that lovely coming up in a moment we have an excerpt from

one of my full English lessons but also something we'll be doing later today we're going to

talk about hospital words so words connected to hospitals departments of hospitals so different

types of treatment that you can receive in hospital and mr. Steve will be here as well

in ab around about five minutes but what will Steve be talking about today I don't know

I can't wait and as I mentioned earlier we will be going live to the garage we will be

going live there it is a live shot in the garage we will be going there later on as

well so many things coming your way on today's live stream Steve will be talking about idioms

now last week we didn't have time to talk about time idioms and also last week we didn't

have enough time to talk about hospital words so that's the reason why we're doing it this

week here we go then an excerpt from one of my full English lessons and this is taken

from one of my early full English lessons where I talk all about flowers and DIY

flowers are so beautiful don't you think they have wonderful colours in summer and the fragrance

from them is so sweet you can smell them you can pick them you can stand back and admire

them you need to take care of them too you need to water them so that they will grow

and survive a flower has many parts the petals are the parts with the color the stem is the

long part of the flower most flowers have leaves if you touch a flower you might find

your fingers will be covered in a fine dust this is called pollen pollen can go up your

nose and make you sneeze I love flowers don't you

can you see what I'm doing here I'm fitting new handles to the doors in my house the word

handle can be used as a noun or verb as a noun handle name something that can be grabbed

or held onto like a door handle as a verb it can mean to hold or carry using one or

both hands or to transport something in verb form handle can mean to cope with something

or deal with a problem if you can deal with something then you can handle it to manage

or oversee something means you are handling it you are taking care of it in a positive

sentence you can handle it in a negative sentence you can't handle it it is too much for you

to handle

so there it is one of my full English lessons and that is a very practical lesson there

because I was doing a little bit of maintenance in the house

it's a Sunday it's a fun day it's time to improve your English what a week it has been

now mr. Steve was supposed to have had a holiday last week but for some reason he wanted to

keep very busy so that's exactly what he did he was very busy last week doing all sorts

of things but you don't need me to tell you because Steve is here right now here he comes

yes it's mr. Steve Howe hello how are you how are you mr. Duncan how's everybody out

there in the world of English not super yes interesting I've been watching your video

about the birds and nesting and interestingly enough we were sitting outside where we're

not having after a walk mhm and we saw some long-tailed tits yes birds these are and we

saw them going in and out of a bush right next to your studio window and we wondered

whether they were building a nest well I went out there earlier mr. Duncan hmm and I can

confirm to you now live that there is in fact a small little long-tailed tit nest being

built in the bush right outside your studio really outside my window yes well it's their

little cup shaped very very small nest which i think is is is what they those types of

nests are from long-tailed teeth that sort of bat little balls Wow and there's one right

outside I would have a look at any mr. Duncan well you know what's going to happen now I'm

going to have to set a camera up outside and try and get some shots because that sounds

very exciting would you like to see some long-tailed tits because I actually have a video showing

some long-tailed tits Steve and they are well one of the is trying to build a nest inside

our letterbox

can you see what's going on here a pair of long tail tits are currently trying to build

a nest in this letterbox unfortunately they are having a little bit of trouble getting

in isn't that incredible so Steve just mentioned

that there are some birds trying to build the nest and there yes it's actually happening

right now outside my studio window but instead of the letterbox this time they're doing it

they're doing it in a more suitable place yes maybe they're determined they love our

garden so much they're determined to build a nest somewhere and they finally found a

tree rather than trying the letterbox yes we don't know if it's the same couple but

it could well be you never know um I'm gonna be honest with you Steve I am very very excited

about that in fact thought you would be I almost want to go and have a look now but

I'm not going to because we have a live stream to present now last week we we did actually

run out of time so we didn't have time to talk about your time idioms and expressions

and also I wanted to talk about hospital words as well so I thought first of all very quickly

we will go through the hospital like the hospital words or would you like the live chat Steve

um let's have a look at the live chat I have been looking but it's always nice to have

a haven't have another look somebody I won't mention the B word but but one or two people

I've noticed have been asking about it I could do a quick definition somebody asked what

it means well you can say brexit we can say brexit and somebody I think it was Alamgir

asked earlier what what does it mean and it's just a combination of two words Britain and

exit so they put the two words together to make a word brexit it just means britain exiting

or leaving the European Union that's all that's all that word means so it's a combination

to two words yes yes Britain and exit join them together and you get brexit of course

the latest word is is because brexit is now not taking place not for the time being anyway

so now they have a new a new word which is is is it flex flex ation well the the latest

thing that's happening is that because that there could well be a further delay to us

exiting the EU the European Union keep granting as these extensions I wanna call it flex denture

that's it flex tension so we keep having these extensions but of course it's a bit annoying

for them yeah for us to keep going backwards and forwards saying she is Therese allow us

to keep flying out there and say oh can we have another extension please so they're they're

flexing it inflexible well they might do that we don't know yet so that's their latest idea

okay so it's flexible extension yes so that's it so that engine yes flex tension that's

what they're calling it okay that's good we got that out of the way we got that out the

way so anything else on the live chat that's caught your eye I can't see anything at the

moment mr. Duncan Lewis said that it's it's a lovely day in Paris which I think sums everything

up it's a lovely day here as well maybe it is across the whole of Europe ah sooo cat

says that the the the long-tailed tits who were looking in the into our letterbox was

probably thinking looking at its reflection I'm thinking there was another burden trying

to fight it oh yes so it was actually fighting its reflection I can see it now on the screen

no the bird is not trying to build a nest it's fighting the other bird because it sees

the reflection in in the letterbox so yes but the reason why I think it was trying to

actually get in is because it was constantly tapping it was trying to actually build a

nest and it was during the time when many of the birds were building nests so yes it

might be your suggestion I think sucat you might have a very good point there and of

course we've seen this with other with other birds haven't we because we get the those

other birds coming into the garden and they look into the reflection in the glass don't

they that's it so and and go on tell us more about that mr. doing so yeah yes I think I

think that you you find that birds are often startled but but it happens also to other

animals as well I've seen cats and dogs also reacting to their own reflection so if they

look in maybe a lake or a river if they see their reflection they might actually start

fighting their own reflection so yes mr. Duncan could you tell me what what does twiglet mean

oh that's going back to last week when mr. Steve thought that a baby hen was called a

twiglet but in fact twiglet is a type of snack it's a type of food processed food they look

like little twigs but no it's whole whole wheat sticks yes they look like twigs from

a tree and they they're covered in that they're savoury a savoury snack and they're covered

in Marmite which is a yeast extract which is something you either love or hate mmm Marmite

you can look it up it's like a brown extract from making yeast I think and molasses or

something like that but it's it used to be quite popular over here my dad always liked

having it on his toast yeah so that's what a twig little that's what a twiglet is it's

a type of snack but Steve mistakenly thought also it was a baby hen well I'd yes I first

word that came into my head hmm well we know sometimes that your your brain doesn't work

very well there's this no okay oh I wasn't listening to you there mr. Duncan I was reading

the live chat okay God can't you do both things at the same time what does supercalifragilistic

mean no I think that's somebody just playing around actually oh right somebody just playing

around you noob I think they are actually but I think they are playing around on the

live chess from a song isn't it yes it's remarried Poppins it's for Mary Poppins Mary Poppins

song supercalifragilisticexpialidocious there we go so now we've got that out of our system

I don't think it means anything though it's a made-up word so I'm going to talk about

time I've got lots of words associated with time and expressions it may take me some time

yes don't worry we've got plenty of time I'm just introducing it mr. Duncan I'm not saying

we have to do it now we've got another hour a lot of just put water down the front of

your shirt fantastic so we're talking also about hospital words because last week we

didn't have time to do this so very quickly have you ever been in hospital Steve yes I

have when you I think it was was it when you broke your ankle yes after a car accident

and many years ago that's before we met remind me mr. Duncan I was driving a tr7 a triumph

tr7 I was very excited because I've always wanted what was wanted one of these cars that

got my first job and I was driving it quite fast down a country lane and I went over the

brow of a hill the brow just the top of the hill and when I went down over the other side

there was a car coming right towards me head-on it was overtaking a motorcyclist and it hit

me head-on and I ended up in hospital with a broken ankle so you were in hospital and

also a neck problem as well which has come back to haunt me now that I'm older what do

they call it when you have whiplash I got whiplash from the impact okay and now I have

a stiff neck all the time because these sort of injuries come back when you're older so

my anchor was broken and now I have problems with my ankle now and now we have problems

with my neck so you have you have been in hospital yes and also to have my tonsils removed

okey-dokey when I was in my 30s so the words that I'm about to show you should be very

easy to you because you've been in hospital I've been in hospital twice so let's have

a look at these words now maybe you will recognize some of these words they're coming up on the

screen right now so the first word there it is can you see it Steve acute acute so this

is a word that you might hear used in hospital especially when a doctor is talking about

what is wrong with you so the word acute do you know what it means Steve in terms of an

injury it's like it's something that appears it's it's it's there it's obvious it's a sudden

injury and acute pain that's it or an acute injury acute pain as opposed to chronic which

is something that goes over a long period of time yes acute is sort of time limited

isn't it that's it it's a short period of time so if something is acute it means that

it's sudden maybe it comes on very suddenly but it doesn't last very long a very good

example is appendicitis of course so we often say acute acute appendicitis very sudden very

painful but it goes very quickly well quite often it goes quickly because you have to

go into hospital and have your appendix removed so that's the reason why it doesn't last long

if you leave it then you might die here's another one cardiology cardiology now that

is a department in a hospital and which part of the body does that deal with Steve well

that's the heart mr. Duncan so it's everything to do with your heart if you have a problem

with your heart if you have to have maybe some tests on your heart then you will go

to the cardiology department and a person who specializes in hearts is cardiologist

a cardiologist is a person who specialises they are a doctor who specializes in taking

care of people's hearts so that's quite a good one I like that word so some of these

words are very technical here's another one now this isn't a word this is actually an

abbreviation do you know what it is Steve ENT yes that stands for ear nose and throat

so for some reason that they put all of those things in the same department so your ears

your nose and your throat they are all in the same area of the hospital so that's e

and t because those particular organs are quite closely connected if you're a specialist

in that area it's quite a good idea that you would you wouldn't just specialize on the

throat because the ears are connected to the back of the throat you wouldn't just specialize

in the ears it's that's just an area like a somebody would specialize in the heart you

wouldn't just specialize in ears you would specialize in the nose and the throat because

they're all sort of interconnected hmm so it would make sense for a specialist to do

all three so ent specialize it was everything that's connected here your ears your your

nose and your throat so yes that makes sense let's go back to the words to do with being

in hospital and Hospital in general here's another one oh now this is something that

Steve has had mm-hmm fracture fracture so if you have a fracture what what do you have

well you've got a break in a bone so you have a broken bone something that needs repairing

and also it is the name of the department so you will have a fracture Ward or a fracture

department so that particular area deals we're the broken bones now I think Steve will definitely

know the meaning of this word geriatric a geriatric and this is also a department that

you will find in a hospital so maybe an area where geriatrics are being treated but what

is a geriatric well you know that you're getting on in years if you have to go to a geriatric

department because that's for for elderly people so quite often illnesses injuries things

that's people who are much older tend to suffer from or maybe something that only affects

people who are elderly geriatric it may be as well just for quite often I think it's

for elderly people who can't they've had an operation probably and then they can't be

sent back home because there's nobody to care for them or they can't care for themselves

so what commonly happens is that until the elderly person is well enough to be able to

send home be sent home then they go to a like a long stay Ward the geriatric Department

is is more of a long stay Ward for elderly people who have had an operation or being

ill and were admitted to hospital but can't be sent home yet because there's there's nobody

to look after them sadly or they can't look after themselves would it be fair to say that

elderly people maybe they take longer to recover definitely yes elderly people take longer

to recover but just because the body isn't as quick as it used to be so I mean you know

when you get older it takes longer to recover from all sorts of illnesses because you know

we're started or why the body started to wind down you know what Steve I think you and I

can both relate to that problem well I mean you see quite early on in your life because

when you if you were a student or if you used to when you were younger quite often if you

if you like going out for a drink to a party then when you're in your sort of teens and

early twenties you can go for a night out and maybe only have a few hours sleep and

you've had quite a few drinks the night before but you just have a few hours sleep you wake

up you're fine you go to work you get on with your life and as soon as you get into your

sort of late twenties early thirties you can't do that anymore and you know it will take

you several days to recover yes and it's just you know the body's getting a bit older so

there it is another word related to Hospital so that's when you start noticing that you're

getting older as soon as you get into your 30s you can't stay out all night and go to

a party and we can all relate to that I think so so geriatric an elderly person or the department

that takes care of people who are older when they are recovering from an illness or waiting

to go home next one Oh Steve ah right gynecology so the gynecology Department the area that

takes care of what well they're looking after women's health women's health quite often

related to the reproductive system that's right and you have specialist specialists

in that area of course in fact we've got a friend who used to be a gynecologist yes and

they often they often shortened it to gynie gynie instead of having to say the whole word

and yes a very specialist Department of course dealing with women's health women's health

quite often related to the reproductive reproductive system but nothing to do with birth no no

we will come on to that later as you can probably imagine here's another one Steve oh intensive

care unit this ICU this is somewhere I never want to end up well sometimes it's ITU intensive

therapy unit yes depending on the hospital may be in the country it might be called two

different things but yes this is where you have to have a a prolonged period of stay

because you really are so severely ill then you have to be monitored very closely you

probably got wires and tubes coming out of you and it's it's really you know you you're

probably it's a life-threatening illness or injury that you've had and you need to have

very specialist round-the-clock care hmm but you wouldn't expect to stay there for too

long you wouldn't expect to stay there for a long period of time maybe just a day a few

days or a week maybe hmm and then hopefully you've recovered sufficiently to be able to

be taken off or the specialist equipment and then you can go into a into a ward where you

don't need quite so much care yes so you often hear a person who has been admitted or put

in an intensive care unit so maybe they've been involved in a car crash maybe they've

been shot shot or stabbed which apparently is becoming very popular now here in the UK

for some bizarre reason or maybe you've had a heart attack and so something serious and

you have to be monitored you have to be watched all the time so that is an intensive care

unit so we're talking about hospital words another one Steve I wonder if you'll recognize

this one maternity ward so we mentioned gynecology so that's to do with the female reproductive

system and problems associated with it but what will pop out of that place well in a

maternity ward of course you're going there to have a baby yes so new life is beginning

in a maternity ward and of course there are specialist nurses that deal with the maternity

care and of course can care continues when you go back home but the times have changed

I mean my mother told me that when when she had me she was in hospital for about a week

but now when a woman has baby there they're home very quickly now hmm whereas when used

to have a baby back in the sort of 50s and 60s you would spend an awful long time in

hospital because that's what they thought that the mother needed to recover and it allows

it it's a bit of time for the mother and and my mother said you when you couldn't get visitors

a very strict Jessie when she had me it was you know she had to be very carefully looked

after and had to rest and then they'd bring the baby to you for periods of time and then

they'd take the baby away and it was to allow the mother to recover from them from the trauma

a childbirth although I am going to be honest with you Steve I am I'm glad of many things

in life one of those things can you guess what I'm going to say is not having to push

a baby out of a little tiny hole in my body I think I think that that would be pretty

high up there on my my list of things that I'm very thankful that I don't have to go

through so it always looks a bit painful have you ever seen a baby being born only on television

me too that's that's as close as I want to get to be honest it all looks very close as

it comes to experience experiencing what it must be like to have a babies when you've

got that constipation yes that probably doesn't compare okay so yes actually somebody's made

an interesting comment Lydia has used the word hospice which is well it's a kind of

a hospital but as Lilia says it's it's somewhere you go usually when you're elderly but if

you also if you've got a terminal illness mmm and again you wouldn't expect to stay

very long at a hospice it's when there's no more treatment for you you are going to die

you've got a terminal illness and there are specialist places to go I don't know what

it's like in other countries but in the UK they're all funded by privately by donations

so these I mean you've got two options if you've got a terminal illness that they won't

keep you in hospital because it's too expensive to keep you in hospital maybe they do for

some people I don't know yeah but generally yeah the doctor comes along and says sorry

nothing more I can do for you you got two months to live so they'll send you home and

then when you can't look after yourself or it becomes too stressful for relatives or

your partner to look after you then you'd go to a hospice but me and my father ended

up in a hospice and as I say it's funded by donations from the public yes many of them

are charities their charities yeah I think they all are in this country yes I don't think

hospice care is provided by the National Health Service no so what happens is that they care

for you because their job is to theirs their job is to make you way but of course if you

have an illness where where you won't recover you will it will actually eventually kill

you then yes it gets to the point when you've become so sick it's it's they don't read it

there's no treatment in a hospice they don't treat you and that is what I found very disturbing

mmm when my father who died of cancer ended up in a hospice because my mother couldn't

look after him anymore they don't give you any treatment so you go there and and for

example that they don't give you water mm-hmm they don't give you a drip there's nothing

like that they basically just let you die and I thought it was no I thought it was very

cruel yeah I mean put it this way you would never let an animal reach the the point where

it literally dies of the illness that it's got you'd have put the animal down a long

time so watching my father effectively starved to death and dehydrate to death was a very

distressing experience hmm and I remember going to one of the nurses saying well you

know he hadn't he hadn't had anything to drink the effectively died of dehydration I mean

what a way to die hmm horrendous yes it is a controversial subject very controversial

subject which is why a lot of people are for and promote euthanasia but of course that's

controversial because you don't know if somebody's you know if you're going to be murdered yes

so there's all sorts of problems around that area but I it was it was very distressing

I found it very distressing and I remember going to one of the nurses and saying what

can't we give my father a trip he can't drink and I can't remember her response but it was

basically it was basically no this is the best thing for him you know basically let

him just die of dehydration okay anyway but I expect people watching I've got similar

experiences maybe they've had relatives who have gone to a hot I mean if it was me anyway

we're getting into a dark separatist and I wasn't actually intending to go down this

dog Romania's fault is no I think no it's actually your fault Steve for talking about

taking up on it yeah anyway it's just after three o'clock we're gonna liven things up

slightly with something a little bit more cheerful because now we are going to take

a look at the thing that we love looking at every single week yes it is the flanks of

the world and then and then after that we're going into the garage live to take a look

at what mr. steve has been up to [Music] okay here we go oh that was a quick change I hope

and mr. Steve has been very busy this week we are now in the garage and a few weeks ago

Steve got very upset because the garage was very messy there was junk everywhere but last

week mr. Steve decided to roll his sleeves up and he decided to clear out the garage

get rid of all the junk and that's exactly what you've done isn't it it is well a year

ago I bought some shelving some self-assembly shelving and my intention was last year to

put this up and tidy all the garage up because all the stuff you see on these shelves which

I put together all by myself no help from mr. Duncan it was just piled up everywhere

and it was a mess and when I went into the garden I couldn't find anything about a trowel

if I wanted something to sweep up the paths I couldn't find anything very annoying yes

so basically everything in here was a mess it was cluttered that's a great word I left

it cluttered so if something is cluttered it means it is very messy it is disorganized

we say something is cluttered so what you decided to do Steve first of all he built

his shelves and the shelves look lovely by the way shelve so you can say shelf singular

or shelves plural and of course shelf is something you put things on normally for storage or

a flat surface that is stable also shelf can be used in a very interesting phrase to be

left on the shelf if you are left on the shelf it means you have been abandoned or you are

unwanted a person who can't find a partner they can't find a girlfriend or a boyfriend

and they spend the rest of their life alone we can say that they have been left on the

shelf and you can shelve something shelve if you shelve something it means you put it

aside to a later date so you put something away and then maybe you will go back to it

later you shell something you postpone something you put something on hold you shelve it so

in that sense it is used as a verb like a project a project you've had a project and

then you decided you couldn't go any further with it you would put that on the shelf you

would shell with it yes you would shelve something you would wait until another day and then

maybe have a look at it again with fresh ideas so mr. Steve decided to roll his sleeves up

and he did actually I must admit I just congratulates Steve congratulations because you've done

such a good job I can't believe that this is the same garage it looks so different they're

only taken as six years to get round to tidying it up only six years but it looks great anyway

so so what what is on your shelves Steve there is your shelf oh well I've got all sorts of

things on these shelves look I've got for sweeping up after I bring cutting things and

there's debris all over the paths and I'll have a sweep up afterwards I just this is

called a dustpan dust we've seen this before this is my hedge trimmer and that used to

be just hanging around on the floor and I'm not going to get that back on there we go

oddly like mr. Duncan because this is what I'm doing the the lawn mowing to get rid of

the noise out wear these headphones but they come very useful very nice when I'm mr. Duncan

anymore they are very in useful time say something mr. Duncan say something mr. Steve yet you

have very stinky feet what was that again I didn't hear a word you said mister don't

I said you have very smelly feet I wear these most of the time around the house so that

I can't hear mr. Duncan there we go so that's so bad mr. Steve's earphones or ear ear defenders

are coming very handy very useful these are my shears for chopping off things that are

sticking out Oh Oh mr. Duncan just make me make you know it doesn't what else we got

here I've got an extension leaves so that I can plug things in and and basically use

them a long way from the source of the power I'll so I'm really back in mr. Duncan I'll

reel you back in come here mr. Duncan come here he's caught me like a fish I've got some

petrol here hope some petrol is washed out all over mr. Duncan and set fire to it but

we won't do that but good sir that would be very nice planned there's evidence please

water to drain away very good of course if I've been working very hard I might get thirsty

I might want to make ourselves a nice cup of tea wait a minute this is this is my cup

this is from one of my English lessons who remembers one of one of my English lessons

where I had my big cup so this is mine how dare you can I have it back mr. Duncan no

I'll put that away later he's gonna break it he doesn't want me to make noise putting

it back on the shelf that's it we've got all the dust sheets the dust sheets on the top

here I don't think that's visible oh right okay well we have got dust sheets and all

here's something else that mr. Steve bought the other day looking this it's a lovely watering

can and it's made of metal so normally nowadays you will find most watering cans will be made

of plastic like that one but this one is made of metal perhaps if I rub it maybe if I rub

the size maybe a magic Genie will come out and grant me three wishes I wonder if it we

will Smith well I've got to take this back with is it broken this is the road music although

the road that goes on the end but it's broken already I only just bought it I'm gonna take

this one back you get my twelve pounds fifty back that's not very good is it anyway look

are and we were actually in the back or at the back of the garage and that's what we

were doing Lilia says you like huge things or big things which is true mr. Duncan does

he likes big phones big anything if anything looks big he gets very excited about well

not just big but oversized so it's too big yes it can't actually be used so I love I

love things that are that are far too large like well for example the cup that you saw

just in the garage so I do like things that are oversized something that's too big so

it becomes it becomes unusable because it's so large yes you cat says yes barn what a

barn is not the same quite the same as a shed if you were a barn is somewhere which is it's

very big structure usually where you might have animals in there you might have animals

in a barn hmm like horses or cattle it's more of a barn is something that you tend to find

on a farm but of course you can have one on your home obviously like sue cat who must

have acres and acres of land around her home she can have a barn yes and you normally have

straw in there and you store things in a barn don't you a straw for animals and there may

be potatoes produce things like that yes and they're normally open to allow air to flow

through them yes but strictly speaking a barn is a place where things are kept for storage

or you can have maybe cattle in there but but you could also say cowshed so you can

have a cowshed which is a structure that is just normally made of wood so quite often

a shed is made of wood whereas a barn might be made of brick or concrete so a barn is

normally a much more solid construction whereas a shed is a little more flimsy and a barn

is much bigger yes very big structure yes honey so there is a slight difference there

now can I just show a couple of more words Steve we're talking about hospital words and

then we're going to go on to Steve's subject which is words to do with time time idioms

and other things as well so what do we have last time we had we had maternity ward so

that's the place where babies are kept after they are born they are looked after by the

mother and also maternity nurses as well who take care of the babies here's a good one

obstetric obstetric obstetric now that is a very interesting word and the idea what

that's about you know I can't remember obstetric shoyu shettrick shall we put it out there

on the live chat yes I can't remember what that is hopefully someone can google it very

quickly yes Bob stop steady to observation obstetric so there we go so yes we'll put

that you were talking about earlier this is actually related to the subject you were talking

about before we went into the garage oncology oncology yes it is an area of medicine concerned

with tumors most most people associate it with cancer so maybe the treatment of cancer

or the diagnosis of cancer so we will often say oncology so that there's a word you might

not have heard of before oncology you never want to be referred to the oncology did not

never you never want to be there looking at cells and abnormal growth of cells and other

words cancers and tumors yes and you can have to be hooked up to all sorts of drips too

to try and put pump medicine through your body to try and kill it off now you don't

want that definitely not and I'll go on yes oh we're going to say Steve obstetrics is

where mothers have their babies Sosuke at okay I think it is something to do with women's

health but I can't remember exactly what it is okay I'm sure you know mr. Duncan yes I'm

sure someone will come with it that there are people now googling googling the word

obstetrics another word let's have a look at another one Steve that's let's go on and

on on the woods and forwards as they say oh he's an allow me ophthalmic mmm thalmic i

wonder if i can see what that means it's a little clue for everybody can you see the

word can you see it clearly an ophthalmic ward or an ophthalmic Department is an area

in a hospital that treats or deals with the eyes

an ophthalmologist --nt or we could also say the department is called outpatients outpatients

or if you are going to outpatients you are an outpatient so outpatient is a person that

has to go to hospital but they don't stay overnight they go in for immediate treatment

and then they go back home straight away so you go in you have some treatment and then

you leave the hospital without being admitted without being kept in overnight so I think

that's quite an interesting word outpatient yes because you you don't just go to a hospital

and have to stay in and what's been happening in the UK is quite interesting they've been

trying a lot of the outpatient departments that deal with sort of minor operations and

now being dealt with more and more by doctors surgeries because they're trying to put the

costs or take the burden of these minor operation away from a hospital and into the local GP

surgery yes so you can go there and have these and of course and have these minor conditions

attended to at your GP surgery which of course saves you having to travel a long distance

to have something done if you can if your doctor's surgery has a little extension or

a room that specializes in a particular area that the outpatient department would have

done in the hospital then that saves travelling time it saves money overall hmm so when we

talk about minor when we talk about minor we mean small so anything may be something

that you can just be treated for very quickly so maybe you have a little spot on your face

or maybe a little blister or maybe a boil on your boom yes or if you have cryosurgery

where they have to where they have to use something very cold to burn a spot off or

or or a growth or something on your skin then that sort of equipment could easily be put

into a doctor surgery and you could have it treated there and a local situation yeah and

a doctor a local you GP could be trained up to do this all people from the hospital might

come there and rent the room from the doctor and and do it that way so minor surgery minor

treatment is just something that can be done quickly quickly you don't have to go Mette

necessarily you don't have to go to the hospital to have it sorted out okay a couple of more

and then we will have mr. Steeves wonderful super duper idioms about time another one

paediatric paediatric as the name suggests it is related to children so it is treatment

or maybe a hospital ward or department that deals with children and childhood illnesses

Saints right paediatric and you can see also in American English the spelling is slightly

different it is a little different a Miss out the e here's another well not to be confused

with something else physiotherapy physio therapy any idea what this was I'm sure Steve after

you had your car accident I'm pretty sure that you must have had some physiotherapy

that's it so if you if you've had a if you injured some tendons or ligaments or you've

had a break in your a bone breaking and you've got restricted movement a neck problem then

you need to have some physiotherapy which is basically they're working the joints and

the ligaments and the and the bones to try and increase the movement in joints and and

in your limbs yes of course sports people have a people who who play lots of sports

if you get an injury then you have to have physiotherapy sometimes to to improve the

movement in your in your joints yes especially if you've just had an accident or maybe you've

been you've been confined to bed for a long time maybe you've had your leg in plaster

because it was broken and now it's fixed itself but all the muscles have wasted away yes I

when I injured my a my then I was doing some DIY to the house and then I was using some

equipment and I got this repetitive strain injury which damaged some of the tendons in

my forearm which is a very similar condition you get if you've been playing a lot of tennis

and you get tennis elbow hmm then the joint the ligaments and the connective tissues that

the join your muscles to your bones become damaged and you and and you have to have physiotherapy

evidence which is to improve the movement yeah so physiotherapy in a hospital you will

have a physiotherapy Department a place where physiotherapy is carried out another one podiatry

podiatry I like this one by the way podiatry now they this doesn't sound like anything

this doesn't sound like any part of the body but it is related to those things that are

at the end of your legs it is the treatment the maintenance if you injure your foot or

your toes you have to go to the podiatry department a doctor that specializes in podiatry is a

person who takes care of your feet I like that one yeah she might have yeah all sorts

of problems with your feet and that's where you would go another one ah now this is again

relating to something Steve talked about earlier we always seem to end up back on this subject

have you noticed Steve well it could be yes it doesn't have to just relate to finding

cancers but yes radiology that's where you go and have her x-rays well not just x-rays

or all sorts of equipment now for investigating deep within your tissues right of an MRI scan

for example that that would probably be in the radiology department anything where they're

they're shining sort of x-rays into your body then you would go there to I mean you might

just have a broken bone and you that would show up on an x-ray hmm but of course it would

also show up tumours in your lungs or many other things as well well why did you left

them I don't know because it's better than it's better than crying I suppose so you must

be a lot of fun at funerals do you sit in the corner laughing ahead of well so great

radiology quite often called the x-ray department but nowadays that particular Department radiology

covers many things nor relating to looking inside your body using lasers or maybe special

photography equipment so all sorts of things special scanning equipment that we've had

the question answered about obstetrics okay Steve and it is connected to childbirth yes

but I think it's more to do with with with with making a physical examination before

the birth takes place so if you wanted to I think obstetrics means you're sort of viewing

inside the body and maybe it's where you have those little ultrasound scans maybe to see

what the baby's health is like maybe it's before the baby is born but it is definitely

connected with there with childbirth another one renal oh yes so if you go to the renal

ward or renal department now again it doesn't really look like it means anything it doesn't

even look like a real word but renal relates to the kidneys so you have to have treatment

on your kidneys anything to do with your urinary tract or your bladder renal yes that's great

and again a probably a place you wouldn't want to go to great puppet quite but I say

popular becomes increasingly something that you lot of people are problem dizzy kidneys

and a lot of people do particularly particularly as you get older then that's where you would

go yes the renal department and I think that I think that's it I'm not sure if there's

and yes that's it that's all of them that's all the hospital words I hope you've enjoyed

have some words and phrases related to the subject that we were going to talk about last

week because last week of course the clocks changed and I noticed earlier that someone

said mr. Duncan you are appearing it's a different time why well that's because the clocks changed

last week we went forward by one hour so we have now gone forward by one hour but the

time here in the UK is still the same time it's still two o'clock every Sunday we start

the live stream every single week from 2:00 p.m. UK time but now it is British summer

time even though today it doesn't really look like summer a quick look outside there there

is the bird feeder that's live outside you can see there are some birds on the bird feeder

I think that's a great tint but there aren't many birds around at the moment I don't know

why I think I think I've scared them all away I think that's what's happened so here is

mr. Steve now Steve has some words and phrases to do with time right here's the first one

so I've got some words and phrases and then and then some sort of idioms following on

so there there are lots of these phrases that have time in them here's the first one on

time if you are on time it means you're not late you arrive at the right time make sure

you are on time for the job interview the trains in the UK are never on time so it just

means at the correct time not late arriving at the right time you can be out of time if

you're out of time that means you've got no time left to do something or a deadline has

been reached you are out of time for example if you were sitting an exam and somebody might

say put your pens down the exam is over you are out of time it just means there is no

more time left to do whatever it is you were doing you can of course and make time that

is fine time to do something to clear your schedule to make time I know that you are

busy but you have to make time to attend the meeting I'm going to make time to see you

later tonight finding time to do something so you can make time you can also save time

of course that's to do something the quick way or a quicker way we will save time if

we take the bus rather than walk to work everything you want to say mr. Duncan you're gonna have

time off so that time off when we say time off that meat really means that you're taking

a holiday or a rest from work like this week yes you're having time off away from something

that you do quite common it could be work it could be you could be studying for something

and it's usually when you say time off it's a longer period of time usually say a week

or two weeks you've been working very hard recently at work why don't you take some time

off I'm going to take time off from my studies so it's usually we would say that a lot in

the UK I'm taking time off work a couple of weeks that's how you would commonly use it

but a similar phrase is is time out huh time out but that usually refers to a shorter period

of time it's similar to time off but normally you you might take time off you might take

time out from work or time out from your schedule but it might only be five minutes or ten minutes

you might take time out for a quick coffee breaker it doesn't normally mean don't usually

refer to that phrase when it when it's a longer period of time yes in American English a timeout

is used in sport so exactly I was coming onto that when there was a short break in the proceedings

so when the the match or the game has a short break they call it a time out a brief break

in play in a game or sport the referee called for time out from the game but also it's a

misbehaving child a misbehaving child is put on their own for a short period of time for

them to recover or gain control of their emotions you might say it's your child it's time out

for you so you put them away in a room on their own for ten minutes in order for them

to get over their tantrum or recover or just recover from their emotions it's also used

in computing timeout so your computer might timeout if you haven't press any buttons on

the keyboard for a while and it might just shut itself down yeah so mr. Duncan will know

more about that but yes so timeout can be used in a lot of different ways if a process

takes too long to carry out it will stop working it will it will shut down it will timeout

automatically so quite often and also on the live chat of course we have the power well

I do I have the power to put people on the live chat in timeout if they are doing something

that's annoying or saying something that's rude I can block them for a short period of

time I can put them in timeout yes of course you can have a hard time a hard time that's

doing something difficult or to suffer some form of hardship a hard time I had a hard

time looking for your house that just means you it was difficult a difficult time it was

difficult for you to find the house you had a hard time you spent a period of time doing

something and it was difficult another way to use that Jane had a hard time recently

she lost her job and then her boyfriend split up with her so she's having a hard time with

life is what we mean there she's lost her job her boyfriend's left and emotionally she's

having a hard time dealing with that situation so you can kill time that means to do something

uninteresting to pass time so you might have some time on your hands so you've got a bit

of you've got nothing to do for a period of time but you want to but you've got to kill

time so you have to do something to use up a period of time we've got three hours until

our flight takes off what should we do to kill time oh let's go off and have a cup of

coffee and have a meal so you want to kill time really in fact what you're really saying

is you want that period to end so you've got a period of time when nothing's happening

and if you want to kill it you want to get rid of it but you have to spend it it's it's

an expression that's used to say you know you you're irritated that you've got this

period of time to wait until something else happens so waiting for a flight is a good

one but you have to go to airports these days at least two hours before your flight takes

off otherwise the rent late you're on board and you've got to kill that time so you checked

in you've got two hours how should we kill the time I always go around the duty-free

shops I I hate waiting as an airport I think it's one of the worst things to do I don't

like waiting for anything I don't like waiting for a bus to arrive I don't like waiting for

a flight talking of which at the end of this month mr. Steve and myself we are going on

a trip aren't we don't that when we're not going to tell you where there will be a bill

when or when but towards the end of April we are going on a trip we're not going to

say where because it's going to be a big reveal we will reveal it when we are there so we

will be taking a flight so there is a clue so all I can say is I'm not looking forward

to waiting at the airport I hope the plane is not delayed okay so another your spare

time if you have spare time that is what you generally do outside of work spare time so

in my spare time I like to do gardening in my spare time I like to read books in my spare

time I like to sing in a choir so you just usually it just refers to hobbies and things

that you do outside of work but also it can mean it can also mean when you've got a bit

of extra time that you didn't expect to have so if you finish something early you can end

up with spare time so if you had a project at work or you had to write you had to write

something you had to write write a project or or or do something at work and you thought

it would take you two hours but it only took you one hour then you'd have one hour spare

time so you might say oh you might say often I finished that report an hour early I've

got some spare time is there anything else I can help you with so two meanings spare

time can mean what you do outside work or it can mean you've literally done something

quickly and you've ended up with some extra time that you didn't otherwise think you'd

have spare time time is money so that's an expression you use when you want to express

that your time is valuable and you don't want to waste it because of course time is money

refers to the fact that if you're not working you're not earning anything and therefore

you don't to be wasting time doing things like they're going out for cups of coffee

a chatting with friends you might say I can't wait here all day time is money you know I

can't stop here talking to you all day time is money it's usually used in a light-hearted

way you wouldn't normally use it seriously you would just say it lying a light-hearted

way time and tide wait for no man or just time and just time waits for no man or time

and tide wait or waits for no man you don't normally put her it's not normally waits you

just normally say time and tide wait for no man that's a phrase to express it well it's

a proverb actually it's quite an ancient expression and the earliest time it was first used its

record is as around it 1225 and the year 1225 so that 800 years ago that expression was

first to use and it's used to express that really you can't stop the passage of time

and the tides are referring to the sea going in and out though that kind of tide so you

can't stop time you can't stop the tides so you shouldn't put off doing something because

don't procrastinate don't put something off because time moves on the tides go you might

waste an opportunity so it's really to say don't waste an opportunity do something now

or before it's too late seize the opportunity now or it will be too late enjoy your life

now don't wait for something else to come along for example don't think about whether

to apply for that job or not just do it or somebody else might get the job instead time

and tide waits for no man and when we say man in there we don't we're not referring

to males were just referring to the the use of man to mean humanity so time and tide waits

for no man we've got to get on with this show mr. Duncan time heals all wounds so that's

an expression of comfort that you would use to somebody really to console somebody maybe

at a time of sadness or when something bad has happened maybe it's usually referred to

feelings of emotional pain and that that hurt and pain will lessen as time goes on as I

said usually used to refer to emotional pain I was sad for a long time after my father

died but time heals all wounds I know you're sad now but don't forget time heals all wounds

you use it to say to somebody to try and comfort them but because of course what happens is

that we're human beings we our memories fade and events that are stressful to us over a

period of time we are set up our brains are set up two comforters over long periods of

time and eventually our memories fade and then we we don't become so sad over a long

period of time it's a sort of but sort of set up so that we're not having to constantly

remember everything all the time otherwise we'd never be able to move on from events

yes it's very natural that over a period of time st. you lose a loved one it's very sad

but it's perfectly natural that over a long period of time that sadness would fade because

you you have to move on that's in evolution that's that that's that that's your body helping

you suddenly realize that you've been doing this for years and you might survive I want

to make up for loss time and day you might buy flowers and then go out for lots of meals

and just trying yeah exactly you might buy them a big box of chocolates yes right well

have gone very quickly and when time passes very quickly you might use the phrase time

flies it's an idiom it just an idiom to express that time is is flowing or appears to be flowing

faster than it actually is because you might have been enjoying yourself and you often

really that means that when you're enjoying yourself time seems to pass a lot quicker

during the summertime the Sun Rise occurs at around about 4 o'clock in the morning so

during the height of summer when the days are very short the sunrise occurs around about

harpus 4 so no sorry when the days are longer so the days are longer so the daylight appears

much earlier so that's the reason why most people miss the dawn during the summer months

quite well when she was young she was studying I think what she means is when she was young

in her teenage years she was studying too much and now she's trying to make up for lost

time by doing crazy things yes so that's it quite often if you spend a lot of time in

your younger years studying too much going to college you're not enjoying your time enjoying

yourself maybe your your your balance is not correct the balance in terms of study time

and free time and you might say that at work your work-life balance if you spend too much

time at work and not enough time at home you could say your work-life balance is out but

you might want to make up for lost time by doing things you know later on in life yes

you make up for it you make up for it it's time to go we're definitely going now Steve
