getting into a bit of a muddle do you ever think of something do you ever have

a really good idea and then suddenly at the last minute you decide that it isn't

such a good idea well that's exactly what is happening right now trust me

hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today are you okay

I hope so are you happy I really really hope so we are now live on YouTube but

as usual there is a technical problem it's nothing to do with me it's nothing

to do with the computer it is just to do with technology in general so if you can

just talk among yourselves for a few moments because I haven't got the live

chat on the screen and as you know the live chat is the most important part of

this actual thing without the live chat we have nothing so please excuse me for

a moment while I saw the live chat out on the screen because if we don't have

the live chat then we have nothing so you know I think you know what I am

saying out there so I'm just trying to get the live chat working this is not

the greatest start to one of my live English streams but the problem is

sometimes everything will reset itself and that's exactly what's happened at

the moment so unfortunately my lovely live stream is not working at the moment

because I have to operate it I have to open it up again and it takes such a

long time to do it I can't begin to tell you how much trouble it is to get this

started so I think now we have a live chat I hope so anyway I hope we now have

the live chat if not I am in very very big trouble

so I need to do just a few things here just bear with me please this is what

you are joking so it is the live chat and it is Sunday livestream yes the live

chat is on and everything is as it should be or is it

so a little bit later on we'll have some excerpts for my full English lessons

we'll be taking a look at words connected with rain and also words

connected with can you guess we are going to talk about one of my most

favorite foods today with one of my full english excerpts so I hope you will

enjoy that and of course coming up later on its mr. Steve get colder in here is

it just me I think it's just you mr. Steve coming later on mr. Steve will be

with us talking of very scary things I have something very scary to show you

later on shall we have a quick look I'm going to give you a sneak peak so this

is where we are going later on we are going into this room and we will be

showing something to you in fact three things we will be showing a little bit

later on after mr. Steve joins in we will be going into the dining room where

I have something prepared let's just say that we have some special guests staying

with us at the moment some very unusual and some might say scary guests hmm so

that's all I'm saying for now you will find out more about that later on after

mr. Steve arrives oh I had to rescue a little bird the other night do you want

to see it here is the little bird that I had to rescue now this little bird is a

great tit but it is a little chick and it had just flown from the nest for the

first time so and and sadly it flew into the window it smashed into the

window and it knocked itself out it was actually unconscious for a few moments

but then I went outside and gave it a little bit of care and attention and a

few moments later it woke up there it is oh look there it is so that is an actual

baby great tit a baby great tit which had just left the nest for the first

time and there it is sitting outside my house looking a little bit confused

because that moment you are witnessing is its first ever moment out of the nest

there is a nest in my garden with some great tits and there is one of the

chicks but sadly it decided to fly into my window now I have some good news

about this little bird a few moments after filming it this particular bird

flew away yes it did so it actually flew off and

now everything is okay because the parents were very nearby so they were

actually watching and they came later and they all flew off together so that

particular story has a very happy ending which is very nice I don't know about

you but I love a happy ending I really do so the live chat is on oh we

garden I will show you very quickly the daily is because they are coming along

one of my live one of my full English lessons not live English that's what

we're doing there and this is an excerpt from one of my full English lessons and

this is one where we talk all about a subject that we know very well here in

the UK a subject that we often talk about not only is it the weather but

it's also a particular type of weather

there are many commonly confused words in English that have opposite meanings a

good example being the words lend and borrow quite often the word borrow is

used instead of lend can you borrow me your pen of course the word used should

be lend as this word means to let someone have something of yours for a

short time you give something to someone on the understanding that they give it

back to you later you lend it to them on the other hand the word borrow means to

take something from a person for a short time you borrow it from them

so lend is to give temporarily and borrow is to take temporarily lend

borrow lend borrow

rain rain go away come back another day I don't know about you but sometimes I

find rain to be a real pain a pain is an annoying thing you can feel actual pain

or figurative pain if a person annoys you then you can say that that person is

a pain something that causes inconvenience or disruption is a pain

something that is hard to do can be a pain a person or thing can be a pain in

the neck or a pain in the ass there are phrases connected to rain such as save

it for a rainy day which means to keep something back for when it is really

needed the thing in question is normally money then there is rain on my parade

which means to spoil someone's enjoyment or create a moody atmosphere at a happy

you are I don't know because I'm not there hey guess who's here now standing

well I have you been here twice I'm not normally here twice in the week but I

have been this week Wednesday and again today yes

even though technically I this is something we were arguing about the

other day is Sunday the end of the week or the start of the new week it's the

start of the new week that's but I've always understood it to be no no Sunday

is the last day of the week where did you get that from

well it isn't it true isn't it commonly known that Sunday is Sundays the same

day of the week as as Friday so we had Friday Saturday and Sunday so this is

the last day of the week tomorrow Monday is the start of the new week well I've

always been brought up to believe that Sunday was the start of the week so

you're wrong mr. Duncan no just because you were told it doesn't mean it's true

well it's because sunday is a religious day yes in the UK Saturday is normally

seen as the beginning of the new week no it's the seventh day the seventh day

anyway it's the seventh day of the women starting up with the documents I'm not

arguing and arguing it's just one of those things though isn't it

it's one of those strains the viewers have to say yes so when is the final day

of the week is it Saturday I don't think Saturday is the last day of the week it

depends on what you call a week I mean it's a week as a seven-day period so do

you some people say it starts on a Sunday if you're working of course it

starts for you on a Monday but I think the start of the

week is I was always brought up to see tell that Sunday see I always remember

out of the week I was remember at school you know we studied religion the Bible

and things like that and it was always the seventh day the seventh day so the

seventh day is the Sabbath which is Sunday so that's that as far as I'm

concerned maybe I'm wrong why did you bring this up suddenly I didn't know me

we're going to talk about this mr. Duncan I could have looked it up there

are many things that I'm going to talk about that I haven't told you about

on I've got a green t-shirt on today but your green thumb yes if you say somebody

has a green thumb it means that they are green fingers it means that they are

very good at gardening or they're very good at making plants grow if you've got

green fingers or a green thumb normally people say that that means that you

could because some people plant put look after plants and they kill them whereas

some people they used to think I read some of it if you touch a plant and

you're someone with green fingers it somehow puts energy into the plant and

helps it grow mm-hmm so if you're a bit superstitious you might believe that if

you've got green fingers somehow you're putting energy into the plant and some

people with the wrong kind of energy that make plants die by touching them

and I know people that if they get a plant it just dies it's usually because

they overwater it yes exactly houseplants I'm really not sure if it's

magic no but I did read somewhere that you know maybe you've got some positive

energy that enables you to work with plants but it's probably just the way

you look after them particularly houseplants as I said you shouldn't

overwater them because that will kill them you know they used to believe that

if you talked to your plants they would grow

you are such a lovely plant yes you are

don't think that'll work you're not very good with plants are you mr. Duncan I'm

not really interested in in gardening to be honest I don't like gardening mr.

Steve does most of the gardening I do very little by most he means 100% by

most of it I mean all of it yes yes but I'll tell you something mr. Steve now

can do the lawn he can mow the lawn very quickly I can whiz around in about 40

half an hour 40 minutes it was my petrol powered mower yes

you're very good doing the lawn maybe you can when you retire Steve perhaps

you can go around doing the neighbors lawns as well maybe you could make a

little bit of money I'll charge them 25 pounds 25 pounds our lawn

no I don't want to be doing that because it's quite tough work being a gardener

it's very physical work and you've got to be very fit and I've only got enough

energy to do my own garden and you know what they say people do it like it's

some hairdressers and people if they've got a particular skill they they don't

tend to do it very well to themselves if you if you good if you're a gardener the

last thing you're going to want to do when you come home is your own garden

because you've probably had enough of gardening all week what I was going to

say that but if you're a hairdresser you can't really cut your own hair no and

imagine it's very difficult to cut your own hair if you're a hairdresser well

you probably wouldn't want to cut say your children's hair or your wife's hair

or your husband's because you've had enough of it you've been doing it all

day it's like me I do a lot of driving in my job because I'm in sales so when

the weekend comes I don't want to drive I just want to put the car away and

forget about it I've had another driving that's why Steve comes to join us on

Sunday so he doesn't have to go in the car I had to go in the car yesterday oh

why because I went to visit my mother Steve went to see his mummy I was here I

was here all day yesterday airing the livestream a lot of things to

sort out let's just say there is something special coming very very soon

there it is in the other room we will be going in there we will be explaining

what they are where they've come from words relating to it or them mm-hmm and

I think we're going to create quite a stir mr. Duncan

well it certainly did the other night when you came back with them

I shall yes I shall recount the story tell yes will Steve I came back and your

reaction because I didn't tell you I was going to do this you did not tell me

Steve came back on I think it was Thursday night very late and he said

I've got something I bought something back I've brought it back I'm going to

show you and he showed me and this will give you an idea of what it might be I

screamed like a girl when I saw them he really did now I've got a friend who

I've known for over 30 years yeah and he likes to keep certain pets yes always

has done that's it I was saying anything else and I yes but he's moving house and

wanted somebody to look after these let's call them pets pets for a few days

while he moves into his new house and he asked me if I would look after them and

at first I said no way and then I thought Oh mr. Duncan show on Sunday

this would be wonderful so this is I brought them back so basically this is

Steve's fault so I brought them back and mr. Duncan's

reaction was probably what you would expect but it wasn't it

wasn't really what you you brought back it was the way you did it you didn't in

this strange sort of don't say anything don't say anything don't panic don't

panic when someone suddenly says that to you the first thing you do is start

panicking because if anyone ever tells you not to panic it normally means that

you have a very good reason to actually panic so that's if anyone says calm down

calm down well they probably have a reason not to be calm and now that's

what happened on Thursday night so Steve was was like you didn't seem like your

normal self the way you were trying to sort of prepare me for it so I got I got

really anxious so of course when he suddenly went

wasn't prepared from said no way no way yes anyway I don't I think that we

should keep what our people has anybody guessed yeah let's have a look look at

it on first of all so Steve is now going to go next door forgot to go near them

have I so you're going to sit down see you in a bit so Steve is now going into

the other room there he goes the big question is can Steve hear me

are you so I'm just wondering whether you should take away the piece of wood

okay that means I've got to get rather close to these furry friends

shall we say okay oh all the way from Brazil okay

and do you want me to reveal reveal it lying now oh oh my goodness so there you

can now see into the glass cases but what is inside so let's have a look

shall we let's have a look so bittle says is it a

snake is it a snake no not a snake I could live with a snake I think actually

sue cat has quite a good answer there I was sooo cat is I think but from Brazil

so she's probably seen these in the wild yes I think so

so I think what's happening here is because because we said Brazil there are

certain creatures that come from Brazil that aren't found in many other places

so we are now going to get very up close and personal with one of our little

guests so Steve is now back on camera so Steve are you ready to reveal what we

have and as you say it I am going to put the live camera onto one of them oh the

suspense so one you have two three two one there you go

it's a tarantula we have actually got tarantulas in our living room survivors

ladies and gentlemen we haven't good just got one we've got three and my

friend who comes from Birmingham who lives near Birmingham which is in the

centre of the UK keeps these as pets in his house and has asked me to look after

them for a few days at first I said no way that I brought them back so that mr.

Duncan would have something to show on Sunday and they are alive should I cap

the glass and see if it'll move mr. Duncan I'd rather you didn't the

question is how secure of these lids because we don't want them to escape at

any point during the live show mr. Duncan I'm sure if I it's definitely

alive yes they are definitely alive they were moving around earlier on but what

they do is that I've noticed yesterday when I when I put them there I noticed

that they stay still for a very long time and then suddenly they'll start

moving around but there are three of them and I've actually given them names

so we're going to have a closer look now

I'm now going to come into the room with mr. Steve I'm hoping this works because

this is something we haven't even rehearsed we haven't really on my own

for these for much longer mr. doke don't worry you won't have to stay alone for

long so for those who got it right yes they

are tarantulas but no ordinary tarantulas they are actually special

tarantulas and they have a very special name steve has got some words and

expressions to do with spiders and he will be telling that as what they are a

little bit later on yes he will are you enjoying it Steve

I feel a little vulnerable I'm glad there is a thick piece of glass between

me and them they were moving around all over the place earlier it's probably

that during the day so they're probably resting but so currently they are from

Brazil I tell you what Steve would you like to see some video footage so here

is some video footage that I filmed yesterday of these actual spiders so

we're going to take a short break whilst we show you some lovely shots of

our special guests

my goodness oh my goodness I hope you enjoyed that did you enjoy that Steve

yes I did Steve thought it might may have been a little bit boring but I

don't think so I thought that was very interesting but we've got the live shot

as well of the spiders in the studio you know they say never work with children

or animals that's what they say if you are doing live TV anything live never

work with animals or children but the strange thing was this morning that that

one spider was wandering around all the time and then of course as soon as we

started the live stream they all they all stopped moving one of them is

disappeared completely in and under his his little house so he's actually asleep

yes somebody said it it is legal to to own tarantulas as pets you can in the UK

they're not a bull stress yet again they're not ours I've borrowed these not

borrowed them a friend that wanted me to look after them while he moves house

while he gets settled in his new house then he wants them back personally I

don't like it and I think they should be running around in the wild so I don't

think it's very nice to keep these as pets but that's what he wants to do so

I'm just looking after them for him mr. Duncan's reaction when I brought them in

was typical because unless you've been really close to one of these giant

spiders before then you're probably going to be a little scared so yes I

don't want them and I can't wait for them to be gone and back into my friends

house so they're not ours our stress again they are not ours they don't

belong to us and I don't agree with them being kept

in glass cages but anyway I agreed to look after them

so here they are and they're there for you to see and I haven't we haven't fed

them because apparently they don't need feeding that often they only need

feeding bats once every other month or something apparently yes so hopefully

they won't need feeding while they're here because there be going back to my

friend's new house so it is that that's a natural live spider cam that is the

spider at the moment in the dining room he's having a little sleep at the moment

and as you can see on the screen I've also put the the proper name of this

particular tarantula found in Brazil yes as Steve mentioned earlier it is all the

way from Brazil your friend keep lots of other things as

well doesn't he keep snakes sheep snakes and different snakes and these spiders

and he keeps them in his living room which is very interesting so they

actually they actually live with him in the house but we were students together

and he used to have them in his halls of residence where we used to live he used

to keep them in cages much to the annoyance of of all the other students

because I think they're a bit frightened of them actually we were staying

together in the same flat as students and one of them escaped one so we never

found it oh my because they can move pretty fast I believe we've had some

questions so let's just get get some questions answered first of all satury

no asks are they poisonous can you touch them they will bite you won't know about

didn't you say you look this some tarantulas when you see sometimes on the

television they're walking at people's arms but I don't think these there are

all sorts of different tarantulas and I believe these are not the ones that you

would put on your arm yes in fact I read yesterday that there was a place selling

them on the Internet they said they are not for handling so

you are not supposed to pick them up because they will give you a bite but

they aren't poisonous yes they'll just give you a really nasty bite but they

won't kill you no but to be honest I don't really want to be bitten by a

spider to be honest I might turn into spider-man or something but if there's a

lump of radioactivity around at the same time hmm you turn into a has it moved

I'm not sure we're still waiting for it to move so the sleep so this is our live

cam this is the live camera actually on just to prove that it's live if you stay

here Steve yes I will go into the other room and I will adjust the camera we

will have a look at one of the other ones so just a moment just bear with me

mr. Steve will keep you company I don't want to be left alone mr. Duncan in his

own special way so let me just go next door and we'll see what is going on yes

Oh mr. Duncan's going next door he's going to prove that it's live although

hopefully you already know that because I was sitting there by them earlier on

they've got as you can see they've got very hairy legs and apparently if you

get if you get too close to them one of their defense mechanisms is to

fire these are hairs off the off off the back of their legs into your face and I

think if you are a small animal you might find that a bit irritating so yes

you don't want to get close to the my friend said if they get out they will

run very fast into the corner of the room and under under a dark cupboard

because they don't like big open spaces apparently they like they're a bit agro

phobic these spiders which means that they don't like big spaces so they like

actually apparently they'd prefer to be kept in small cages like this but I

don't like it I think they should be free too

in the wild like all animals I don't like zoos either but my friend wants to

keep them so that's up to him he knows my feelings on it and as

anybody has anybody watching got a pet spider or has anybody is anybody

watching from Brazil Brazil or anywhere else in South America who has actually

seen these tarantulas live we'd like to know if you've seen them actually in the

wild in your country of course we don't get them here we don't get spiders that

big in the UK which is about why most people are scared stiff of them if you

were to show that I told my mother yesterday I was keeping these spiders

and she was quite horrified look at that you wouldn't want to put your hand in

that glass cage mr. Duncan's focus see there those hairs apparently they can

fire them off at you I hurl them toward you and they could stick in your eyes

and they'll be very irritating mr. Duncan's given them names haven't you

mr. Duncan I have they have little names I've we have we have Boris Boris Boris

the spider and the one in the middle that you can see now is called twitchy

twitchy well though he's not very twitchy twitchy is somebody who suddenly

moves yes well many selectively yes if they

move a lot or move around a lot we can we can see that they are very twitchy

you've got a twitch it means you suddenly move uncontrollably but this

one well then mr. Duncan calls him twitchy

he's not twitching very much he's staying very still i strange enough I

think they've become more active at night because last night they were

moving all over the place there is one inside there you can see all the web

that they've that they've spun all the white web where spiders all of course

spin webs and he's in there you can't see him he he or

gee we don't know what the sex of these spiders are I don't know how you can

tell have we got any any biologists any animal biologists watching today maybe

they can tell us how you can tell the sex of a spider because I have no idea

whatsoever we can't see very much they mr. Duncan I'm hoping in a moment we

will are you trying to entice the spider out of its lair just give me a moment

it's device which means that you're trying to encourage something to to come

out of hiding yes as I said it's a good job there is a lot of glass between them

and us because I though they're more frightening to look at apparently than

they are in real life I mean if that was a I mean there are spiders much much

smaller than that like the black widow spider which is only about a couple of

centimeters across very small spider which we don't get in the UK but you do

get in places like Australia the black widow spider is extremely poisonous one

bite is enough to kill you but and it's much much smaller than the tarantula

it's only about a couple of centimeters across

I believe whereas these are all probably about 12 centimeters across if not more

than that and they're not poisonous but you wouldn't want them to bite you I

think you'd need to take an antihistamine atomic says just ask them

in the tip of their legs da which is a sexual organ right okay the tip of their

he used to but now he has a special room which he keeps it at about 80 degrees

apparently they need humidity more than anything else as well they need to be

very moist they need a very high moisture atmosphere and so you have to

put lots of water inside them to keep them to keep them to keep them happy the

males are smaller than the females apparently and of course like all

spiders I would imagine that after they've mated the female will try to eat

maybe that's the male hairs on those legs here we go

and I'm talking about the spiders not you mr. Duncan look at that not sure

that we've got anybody watching if any it would move

well spiders are arachnids if we're talking biology spiders come under the

class of animals called arachnids ara CH n ID arachnids which includes spiders

scorpions mites and ticks so Iraq knees are characterized by

having four pairs of legs so that's a they're in pairs so they've got eight

legs but they're in tears of two so they've got four pairs of legs and the

body's divided into two regions insects of course have six legs and their body

is divided into three regions arachnids a part of the arthropods which is a

class of animals in vertebrate animals which have segmented bodies and jointed

appendages so the arthropods include the insects spiders crustaceans which are

the crabs and the lobsters and centipedes so arthropods a are th ROP

ods arthropods are characterized by having they don't have a backbone so

they have their skeleton is on the outside so instead of having bones on

the inside like we do to support our bodies they have an exoskeleton which is

a hard shell but we know we can eat and see a lobster or a crab has a hard shell

over it of course spiders and all insects have this hard covering over

their limbs made of chitin by the way so that that hard shell on that spider is

made of the same stuff that hair is made of a very hard

substance and so there we go arachnids and there are words associated

with arachnids you can imagine scorpions being related to spiders can't you mr.

Duncan you certainly can but but mites mites MIT ES mites are very small little

they look like incredibly small spiders that you can barely see and they live in

food and eat eat food and ticks of course ticks TI c ke s creatures that

live in grass and if you go walking in long grass particularly in places like

Germany you can pick up ticks which are quite big they look well they look they

look sort of their spider like but they they they cling on to your leg and it

can cause very nasty infections we don't have ticks in the UK well I don't think

we have a city we might have ticks but we don't have a big problem with it but

I know if you go walking in in the forests of Germany in other parts of

Europe and probably in other parts of the world

you should wear long trousers because these ticks can get on to your legs and

then they can cause they suck the blood and they can cause nasty infections so

there we go I'll put that that word up arachnid arachnid which is basically

spiders scorpions and ticks so they're all classed into one into one class if

you're looking at zoology here but they're all arachnids a part of the

group called arthropods which include crustaceans such as such as crabs and

shrimps as well and all the insects but the difference here of course is that

the spider Owen is bodies divided into two whereas

insects bodies are divided into three and they've got six legs in the spider

has eight I'm telling you so you know we'll know this anyway but that's the

word arachnid now if you somebody who is afraid of spiders then

you are an arachnophobia you don't like it and the Iraq bit at the beginning

then you would be called an arachnid file file means something that you you

like or something you're attracted to so a rack no spider file something you like

like spiders or who are attracted to spiders obviously in in an interest type

he's probably prodding them with a stick now here's something that people don't

like words associated with spiders spider vein spider vein now that is our

women won't like to have these you get these on your legs sort of they're well

they're more like those veins or capillaries which are small veins in

your skin which are a blue color which sort of radiates out from

point so there looks a bit like spiders legs so if you've got veins in your legs

that sort of radiate out fine little veins capillaries then you can say oh

look you've got spider veins so that's what they call those and I wouldn't have

thought that many people would like to be told that they've got spider veins

you can have them burnt off with a laser apparently and we know that spiders of

course build webs or they spin webs

which is a believe it's made of silk and that's how they catch their prey as we

know now if we say that there is an expression called a web of lies

you might have heard of this which of course a web is sort of interconnecting

fibers and so if you've got a web of lies it means that for example if you

are a person that lies then you can quickly that can quickly escalate into

lots of other lies because if somebody questions you about the first lie then

you've probably got to carry on lying to cover up the first lie so you can get

more and more lies and so what use when that happens you describe that there's a

web of lies and you can say to somebody you're just telling me a web of lies so

if I if you were to ask me for example mr. Duncan what's my job mm-hmm

you could say what's wood you asked me what my job is mr. Duncan mr. Steve what

is your job well I'm I'm an architect so I'm just lying I'm trying to show off by

them go if you actually let them go wild in this country they won't survive now

so cold it's too cold and also they'll just get picked off by all of the

Predators so there are rules in buzzards and sparrowhawks and Magpies and all

sorts of flying creatures that will they were too

pick them off very easily it's interesting to note that this particular

spider eats insects and also can you believe it mice so that's the connection

from earlier on with the mice so this particular spider will also eat mice

large insects and also small reptiles I can't believe it my friend Vee feeds

them crickets he feed feed some crickets like this other crickets they're like

grasshoppers and that's what he feeds to them but grow in the wild I believe sooo

cattle probably tell as they actually they live in the trees hmm they live

higher but if high up in the trees and probably catch little lizards and

insects walking around and the interesting thing is that they don't

like wide-open spaces so that's the reason why I think that the people that

collect them they keep them in small containers because if you put them in

anything large apparently they just go crazy they can't they can't handle it

but between you and me and we both agree with each other here don't we Steve

we're not a big fan of having animals caged no we're just looking after them

we will stress this again and yes yes please we don't we don't necessarily

agree with this but no we thought it was interesting to show you because it's

just something very unusual and when Steve showed them to me the other night

for the first time I screamed like a girl I was going crazy

and it was after midnight so the neighbors must have thought I was being

attacked or something but then you became very fascinated in the mr. don't

go they wanted to go and look at them and you wanted to get them out and have

a look after the initial shock I got very I became very curious about them

because I've never been this close to tarantulas to be honest I've never been

this close to them so that's the reason why I became quite fascinated let's have

fine vein it's very tiny they're normally blue or red I have some on my

ankle as well I might take a photograph if I take a quick photograph over there

of my spider veins I can show them to you just pictures of their spider veins

as to whether they were actually secure in there mr. Duncan maybe you need to go

and have a quick look I feel a bit weird mr. Duncan I feel strange as though oh

one of the smelliest cheese's must be the variety known as stinking bishop

this cheese is also produced here in the UK in the county of Gloucestershire each

country has its own famous cheese France has its camembert cheese Greece has its

feta cheese which is made from goat's milk Italy has its parmesan cheese which

is normally grated and sprinkled on to pasta or you could try some mozzarella

cheese which is used to make pizza topping there are many hundreds of

varieties of cheese around the world all of which I would love to try but sadly I

cannot as I would put on weight and get very very fat

when people take photographs of their friends and family they normally ask the

subjects to say cheese as it encourages everyone being photographed to smile

cheese I must say all this talk of cheese is making me feel quite hungry

talks a lot somebody's very energetic talks to everybody tries to get people

involved and it's just a happy fun fun person yes or they draw a lot of

who just sits alone in the corner a party poop and they don't want to get

involved and that's me now so if I go to a party I'm sure I'm normally the one

that sits in the corner of the room looking very unhappy here we go is

another one bring something to the party that's an expression do you bring

something to the party that's an expression you can use and it's the

contribution that you make to a particular activity or situation the

contribution the contribution that you make so what do you bring to the party

that doesn't have to be literally a like a birthday party it can be anything

so it could be something at work where you're all trying to decide on some new

way of working and you're having a meeting and you're going around the room

and everybody's putting in their contribution then they might say well

bill how do you use the word bill again bill well bill what have you got to

bring to the party in other words what's your contribution it doesn't have to be

literally at a party it's a good it'll be a gathering of people mr. Duncan used

that expression for me on Wednesday he said we're going live on Wednesday make

sure you bring something the party he said so my words make sure

you have something to offer something to offer something to give and I did have

uses of the word party so we didn't use them in the end

something to the party now somebody who turns up unexpected at a party so you're

having a party you've invited people but long but not that person but not that

person and they suddenly turn up unexpectedly uninvited they are called

a party crasher an uninvited guest to your party so I might have a might have

people to come along and somebody else has found out about it and has just

decided to turn up anyway hmm but I didn't invite them but I don't want them

to actually come to the party and you probably don't want them to go there

uninvited and probably unwanted guests a party crasher hmm I mean yes so yeah you

could say that at work you could be having a meeting and somebody uninvited

to could come along so you're a bit of a party crasher hmm

what are you doing here they crash your party they come to the party they go to

the party and they were not invited or even they they were not wanted there so

they weren't even allowed there and they still go to the party they crash the

party so here's another expression quite a few people now on the live chat yes

bring something to the party and you probably need to be the life and soul of

the party to get away with that is expression your party piece your party

piece this is something that you're able to do that is especially good amusing or

odd your party piece maybe you're good at something and when you're at a party

someone will say to you Oh will you sing that song hmm

you sing that song ever so well that's your party piece something that that you

can perform that you're good at that you can show everybody else yes so something

that you do so whenever you go to a party you always have this little thing

this little act or performance that you always do at parties and we describe

that as your party piece maybe you're good at telling jokes and maybe you go

to lots of parties and and tell the same joke everybody everywhere and somebody

knows you and says oh oh that's his party piece telling jokes yeah it could

be you could be able to roll your eyes in a strange way and I know somebody

that used to be able to turn their eyelids inside out so they used to turn

their eyelids inside out and it looked very bizarre and that's a you could say

that that was their party piece something that that's fun yeah that they

can do it apart see my party piece is making my eyebrows move independently

whenever you're in a social gathering mr. Duncan can do that and we can say

that's his party piece because nobody asks very few people can do that so it's

something unusual something odd funny or some kind of talent that you've got

words are you part of this sort of secret sort of the secrecy there we go

so that's to be party to something it means you're involved in some way in

something so as I understand it it is connected to the word part could well be

wonder what the spiders are doing shall we have a look at the spider I don't

spider yesterday would not stay still it was moving and walking and going all

something to be creative to be well or to be involved to be involved exactly

so some people don't have this knowledge none of you have the knowledge and the

people that do have knowledge about this thing a party to that so you can be

party to some information that means you know it but other people don't exactly

so yes so yes the word party is actually derived from the word part to be

involved so I suppose a group of people who are involved together in one

activity we would describe as party total party line I was he lying now this

has got to this has got two ways of explaining this this word word so a

party line if you're talking about a telephone it's a shared telephone line

so certainly in this country before everyone could afford to have their own

telephone line they had a shared line so if you were living at a block of flats

or another house next two years there might be one telephone line shared

between both houses or both flats or three flats or three houses and

sometimes you would use it you would pick up the phone to use the phone and

you could hear the other people talking from the next-door house because it was

the same line going into each house you can listen to other peoples conversation

that's right so party lines so when telephones first well in fact they were

still around when I was growing up having party lines because if you

couldn't afford your own line you you shared it with somebody else hmm

but you had to make sure that you weren't on the telephone at the same

time as then you so sorry right I'll call I've used the phone later but of

course you could listen in you could hear the clicks and so they still do

exist in some countries party lines but the other use of the word party line is

the official ideas and attitude of an organization oh the party line

they would call that the party line so a political party has certain attitudes

and certain beliefs and ideas and everybody in that political party has to

in public a dear to all those same beliefs hmm so that's the party line the

thing that you must follow the thing that you is followed so the rules the

regulations the attitude you must follow all of those things and collectively

situations like this because particularly in political parties

everybody has to toe the line everybody has to be on message to say the same

thing when they're in public so there we go that's party line and it's coming up

to 4 o'clock so we can use 4 o'clock of course means that we're going very

shortly so an expression to use when something is coming to an end is the

party's over the party is over the party's over there we go it's just an

expression to mean it's time to call it a day it's time to go

the part is over and this has been a party because there's thousands of you

a party with drinks and streamers and pretty balloons but it's just an

expression to say something pleasant has come to an end the event the event is
