LEARN ENGLISH in 2025 - Great advice for improving your English learning with Mr Duncan

Recently I have received many messages asking if I can give some clear ways of learning English whilst having a busy life.

It is true that many of us these days have a lot on our plate.

We all seem to have things to do which can affect our plans for the future.

Learning takes time and patience.

Something that might be hard to achieve if you lead a hectic life.

I suppose the most important thing to remember when learning anything is to find the time to do it.

You must give yourself the opportunity to learn new things.

I suppose the most important word I want to use right now is time.

Time is everything.

Giving yourself the time to do things is important.

This might sound like a very obvious thing to say, but you'll be surprised just how often we forget how important it is to make time to do things

Especially those important things such as learning a new language.

Before you begin doing anything.

You must have a good idea of what you want to achieve.

What is your goal? What are you aiming to do?

Make a basic plan of what you wish to achieve from the thing you are going to pursue.

For example, if you are going to learn English, then you must start at the beginning.

I would imagine many of you watching already have a basic understanding of the English language.

However, this does not mean you shouldn't have some sort of plan in place.

Take time to discover the things you are good at...

your strengths, the things you understand well.

And of course, you must also work out what your weaknesses are.

The things you need to improve.

Perhaps you are good at reading English, but you have difficulty listening and remembering new words.

This is a very common problem for those learning any language.

Always give yourself a chance to listen to English being spoken.

Listen to what the person is saying.

If you have to repeat the thing you are listening to, then do it.

Don't be afraid of repeating things, whether it is listening to the same video lesson again and again,

or writing the same words on a piece of paper, and then doing it again.

This is a very good exercise for putting those important pieces of information in your brain.

Never be afraid to repeat things.

Listen again and again.

Write things down.

Listen to what is being said.

Already you will notice that there is a certain rhythm or pattern forming in the way you are learning.

Listen. Read. Write. Repeat.

These four phrases should be the most important things to remember and put into practice.

A few moments ago, I mentioned time as being an important part of learning a subject.

Give yourself time to learn and absorb what it is you are studying.

Don't rush.

There is no need to push yourself.

Trying to do too much over a short period of time will only leave you feeling tired.

Give yourself enough space to learn in.

By this I mean time.

Perhaps you have some sort of area or part of your day where you have spare time.

Maybe in the morning.

Use that time to watch a short lesson or listen to something being read.

Just a few minutes of practice in the morning, or maybe in the evening, or even both is all you need to build your knowledge and competence.

Yes, as you learn, you will become more confident.

Practise English every day.

Try to discover what you need to improve.

The most common problem with most people learning anything is motivation.

Having that sense of determination is rather like having an inner superpower that you can use at any time.

I would say that motivation and self-determination are both key parts of learning anything.

Even when things seem difficult. Keep going.

Don't stop.

Don't give up.

I know I've said this before, but I will say it again.

Self-belief is a very important part of doing anything in life.

Tell yourself that you will succeed.

Never be afraid to say “I can do it”

“I can do it”

“I can do it”.

One of the most amazing things about modern technology is the ease in which someone can learn a new skill.

This is the reason why I do what I do.

This leads me on to another important part of learning English.

Try to create an environment in which English becomes part of your life.

Make English part of your daily routine.

Try to find other people who share your love of English.
