English Pronunciation | How to Pronounce Past Tense -ED Endings

We are looking at the pronunciation for the past simple regular verb -ed endings.

Now there are three different ways to pronounce the -ed ending.

Our first sound is /id/.

Now we use /id/ after verbs that end in d or t.

So for example, wanted, waited, visited, needed.

Ok, so you hear that /id/ sound coming in at the end each time.

Our second sound is /d/.

Now we use the /d/ sound after verbs that end with a voiced sound.

Now what is a voiced sound?

Well, it's a sound that we make where you can feel a vibration in your throat.

So love, is a voiced sound.

Alright, so let's use a few examples.

Enjoyed, loved, lived, played.

Ok, let's look at some examples.

You can hear that /t/ sound coming in each time.
