BEEN vs GONE | What's the difference?

with grammar. We are looking at the difference between been and gone. Any idea?

at the difference between been and gone. Not everyone knows the difference and it's really

Ok but enough of that, let's get going.

The main confusion lies in that fact that we use been and gone as the past participle

for go. However the meaning is different. We are talking here about the present perfect

here right so have or has plus the past participle so been or gone. Now if I said to you 'I've

been to Paris' that would tell you that I visited Paris and then I returned. It was

a complete visit. I went, I came back. Done. If I said to you 'I've gone to Paris' that

means that the visit is not complete. I went there and I am still there now. So that's

all it is. One of them is a complete visit, you go there, you come back. The other one

is incomplete. Let's think about this visually, ok? So I am in London now and I say to you

'I've been to Hong Kong.' Where am I when I tell you this? I'm in London, right? Because

it's a completed visit. I've been to Hong Kong and I've returned. It's a complete visit.

Ok. Now maybe we are on the phone and I tell you 'I've gone to Hong Kong' well where am

I when I say that? That's right, I'm in Hong Kong. Ah Hong Kong, love this city. Little

bit hot though, don't need this jumper. Because it's an incomplete visit. I am there and I

haven't returned yet. So as you can see, one is a complete visit one is an incomplete visit.

Alright, let's do a little quiz to test you.

How did you do? Was that ok? Did that make sense? Alright, it's quite simple really but

yeah it's important to get the difference. Ok guys, let's get into this brand new section

where I feedback on some of your comments from the last video which was 36 words that

you don't know how to say correctly. Now some of these comments were so awesome. So the

first one, Jesca Chang says that she visits Loughborough every single day. Now Loughborough

was one of the words that we looked at that you couldn't pronounce and Jesca didn't know

how to say it but she visits that city every single day. Awesome! Alright, so now hopefully

you know how to say it Jesca. Thank you for your comment. William Gutierrez asked for

the difference between mouth and mouse. The beginning sounds are the same mouth and mouse.

So the most important thing here is what are you doing with your tongue at the end of the

word. With mouth you are blowing air out and your tongue is touching your top teeth. Mouth.

So I am blowing air out. Mouth. Now with mouse my tongue is down and I am blowing air out

but it's not touching my teeth. Mouse. So the difference there is the height of your

tongue, where your tongue is. For mouth it's touching and for mouse it's not touching.

Ya Ta asked for the word brewery. That is tricky. That is a hard one. Let's break it

down, so we've got two sounds here brewery. So 'I visited the Guinness brewery yesterday.'

Brewery. Ok, just two sounds that's all your need. I hope that helps. I love this comment

from Serzhan, sorry if I got your name wrong there. This was referring to a video a week

ago which was all about the brand new words in 2018 that the Oxford dictionary had just

added to the dictionary. Now what I love about this is that Serzhan has watched my video.

I've taught a few of the words from the new list of words but then they have gone and

researched the other ones. They've shown so much curiosity and passion to learn more English

above and beyond Eat Sleep Dream English and that's so awesome. By the looks of the comment

they found a word called 'cakeism'. Love it! What a great word and they are also suggesting

that we come up with some new words like chairdrobe which is basically like your wardrobe but

you know when you come in from a long day and you get changed and you don't put your

clothes into the wardrobe you just throw them onto a chair. A chairdrobe. I love that idea.

I wanted to add to that a floordrobe cos I just throw mine on the floor. But I love it

and I love your passion for learning Serzhan so thank you very much. Now I also love this

comment from Patrice. Patrice comes from France but is living in the UK and has a daughter

and is trying to learn more about British English and British culture so that he can

teach his daughter. I love that so much. That is exactly what Eat Sleep Dream English is

about. It's about you guys being able to help the people around you and yourselves of course.

And wow! I mean what an amazing father you are to be doing that, that's incredible so

thank you so much for your comment and I want to do everything I can to help you to teach

your daughter and anyone else that's trying to help their family learn English let me

know because that's an amazing thing to do. And finally a lovely comment from Anita. Anita

came on the meet-up that we did last week. We met up in London,there was about 15 of

us Eat Sleep Dreamers and we walked round Regent's Park, Primrose Hill and then we ended

up in a pub just having a chat, having a conversation, just getting to know each other and making

friends and I think a few of you guys went off afterwards to Winter Wonderland to hang
