Learn the English Phrases "running behind" and "running out"

In this English lesson, I wanted to help

you learn the English phrase running behind. This week

I was running behind. At the beginning of the week

I had some technical problems.

And then I put my Tuesday video

out, I think on a Wednesday.

And Wednesdays With Bob came out Wednesday night.

If you're a subscriber on my other channel

or member, you'll know what I'm talking about.

But I was able to do my Friday lesson

on Friday and I did my Saturday livestream today.

But I still have to do this lesson.

I'm still running behind.

So when you're running behind, it means you're doing

things later than you normally would do them.

It's a little windier than I expected out here.

So I was running behind.

Hopefully, once I'm done this lesson,

I will be all caught up.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is

running out, which I think is a very common phrase

that you already knew.

No, that you already know.

But it has two meanings.

Let me move a little bit.

This tree is rubbing against my coat.

I can say this.

I'm running out later to get some

milk because we're running out of milk.

I just used running out in two different

ways, so neither of them involve actual running.

So if I say I'm running out later,

it means I'm going to go somewhere.

If I say, sorry, this feels a little uncomfortable.

If I say that I'm running out of milk, it

means there's almost no milk left in the fridge.

So that's what running out can mean two different ways.

So to review, when you're running behind,

you're not getting stuff done on time.

And when you're running out of

something, it means you're almost...

You almost don't have any.

You are running out of that thing.

A couple weeks ago, we were

running out of toilet paper.

That's not a good thing.

So I ran out to get some.

But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous

video, which I actually have in my pocket today.

If you're wondering what happened in the airhead

video, I had my coat on at school.

I put this comment in the coat pocket.

I went outside.

It was kind of warm on that day, so I

took my coat off and threw it in my van.

And then during the lesson, I

realized I didn't have the comment.

But I have it here today.

And it's from Mohamed Khaled, who has been waiting

patiently for me to use one of their comments.

I'm good at keeping people in the dark.

In fact, I did keep my friend in the dark once, but

I only did it to make a birthday surprise for him.

I wasn't planning to keep him in the dark for

long, at least until I'm done surprising him. Anyway.

Have you ever kept someone in the dark?

And my response I have done this to Jen when

I bought something to surprise her for her birthday.

So yeah, I don't....

I don't regularly keep people in the dark, but I

have done that before with Jen where I've bought something

for her birthday and then I've kind of hidden it

somewhere in the house where she can't find it.

By the way, it's a little crunchy.

I wore the Crocs today, which was a

bad choice for this kind of weather.

So I have kept Jen in the

dark at times where that made sense. So.

But yeah, I am running a little bit behind this week.

But hey, it's all good.

It's just, you know, when you have computers and

when you have an Internet connection, sometimes things go

wrong and they don't work properly and then you

end up being a little bit behind. So.

But I think in about an hour I'll be all caught up.

That will be a nice feeling.

And then there's also this cool thing.

I only have to work four days this coming

week and then spring break is the week after.

So even though this week I was a

little bit behind, I'm thinking, no worries.

I'll have lots of time on my hands in just a little

while to do all of the things that I want to do.
