Learn the English Phrases CARRY ON and CARRY OUT - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So today I wanted to help you learn

the English phrase, "Carry on."

This has a number of meanings, I'll go over two of them.

One meaning is simply to continue doing something,

so I'm going to carry on making YouTube videos

for all of you.

I think you should carry on learning English this summer.

It basically just means that you're going

to keep doing something.

But you could also use it to talk about someone

who just keeps complaining and won't stop.

You could say, "Ah, they just keep carrying on.

"I wish they wouldn't carry on so much when they talk

"about their job or when they talk about their family."

So it has a number of different meanings.

As I said, the first, if you carry on,

it means that you continue doing something.

And the second, it is used to describe someone

who just won't stop complaining

or won't stop doing something.

So for instance, sometimes I talk to one of my colleagues

at work and they tend to carry on a little bit,

they tend to complain a little bit

when they talk about the job that we do.

And then I have another English phrase here, "Carry out."

This has a couple meanings as well.

I'm just going to go over the one meaning,

which means that you do something.

So if you have a plan, you can carry out the plan.

If you want to get something done

and you decide how you're going to do it

then you carry out the plan that you have made.

Sometimes you'll see this in a movie or TV show

where thieves have a plan and then they carry out the plan.

And then I think normally you would put

a dash between carry and out,

but when you go and get food from a restaurant and eat it

at home, in English we sometimes call that carry out.

So you could say, "Oh I'm gonna just get

"some carry out tonight."

So you might go to a restaurant and get some food

and then take it home and eat it.

Most restaurants in Ontario right now

are only serving carry out.
