So, when you're ready, let's look at 'been in' first.

준비가 되셨다면 먼저 'be in'을 살펴보겠습니다.

So, what do we mean when we say:  He has been in Rome for three days?

그렇다면 우리가 말하는 것은 무엇을 의미합니까? 그는 3일 동안 로마에 있었습니까?

We mean he arrived in Rome three days ago, and he's still there.

그가 3일 전에 로마에 도착했고 아직 거기에 있다는 뜻입니다.

So, what about 'been to'?

그렇다면 '~에 가다'는 어떨까요?

What do we mean when we say:

우리가 말할 때 우리는 무엇을 의미합니까:

He has been to Paris three times.

그는 파리에 세 번 가봤습니다.

We mean he has visited Paris three times.

So, why is it 'to' in this case and not 'in'?

Why is it he has been to Paris?

Right, the verb 'go' has two past participle forms.

맞아요, 동사 'go'에는 두 개의 과거분사가 있습니다.

The first one is 'gone'.

첫 번째는 '사라지다'입니다.

go - went - gone.

가-갔다-갔다.

When we use 'gone' as the past participle, we mean that the person is still there.

과거분사로 'gone'을 사용하면 그 사람이 아직 거기에 있다는 의미입니다.

We can say: He's gone to Rome and he's been there for three days.

우리는 다음과 같이 말할 수 있습니다. 그는 로마에 갔고 거기에 3일 동안 있었습니다.

So, what's the other past participle form of the verb 'go'?

그렇다면 동사 'go'의 다른 과거 분사형은 무엇인가요?

You will be surprised to find out that it's 'been'.

'됐다'는 사실에 놀라실 것입니다.

go - went - been.

가 - 갔다 - 갔다.

When we use 'been' as the past participle, we mean that the person is not there anymore.

과거 분사로 'been'을 사용하면 그 사람이 더 이상 거기에 없다는 의미입니다.

The person is not there now.

그 사람은 지금 거기에 없습니다.

That's why we say: He has been to Paris three times.

He last went to Paris in 2019.
