5 ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS YOU MUST KNOW

Hey in today's English lesson, I'm gonna teach you five English phrasal

verbs that you must know in order to sound like a native English speaker.

Now, are you ready for our first English FRA verb?

Well, then I'm teacher.

Tiffani let's jump right in our very first English.

FRA verb is back off.

Good again after me back off.

Excellent.

Last time back off.

Very good.

Now back off, this just means to step away in order to avoid

conflict from someone or something.

Hey, I don't want any trouble.

I'm backing.

In English we say back off now the first example sentence is I will back off

and let you handle the new students.

Okay.

They, they are too much of a hassle.

Again, I will back off I'll step away and let you handle the new students O okay.

They are too much of a hassle now sentence number.

You're really annoying me right now.

And I, I don't wanna fight.

So please, just back off again, you're really annoying me right

now and I don't want to fight, so please just step away, back off.

Make sense right now the third sentence is right here.

Yo, you need to back off.

I don't know you like that.

Now, this is kind of slang a little bit, but listen closely.

Yo, Hey, you need to back off.

You need to step away.

I don't know you like that.

We're not close friends.

We don't know each other like that.

Please step away.

This is more serious.

When you're upset, you can use this phrase, right.

Again, the way it's written here, including this frail.

Yo you need to back off.

I don't know you like that.

So in English we say back off, when you're telling someone to step away, or when

you're saying that you will step away.

Now the second one that you need to understand and know how to use is blow up.

Good again after me blow up.

Excellent.

Last time after me blow up.

Very good.

Now this FRA over verb just means to get so angry.

You create a scene or outburst.

For example, maybe you're a little upset and you're clenching your teeth,

but then you get so angry that you suddenly scream and you make a big

scene and people start looking at you.

You just blew up again to get so angry that you create a scene or outburst.

Now here's an example.

Sometimes I want you to listen to my boss.

Totally blew up on Tina today.

I wonder what happened again?

My boss got so angry that he or she created a scene and an outburst.

Again, my boss totally blew up on Tina today.

I wonder what happened now?

Sentence number two, as a.

It's hard to practice patience.

Sometimes when all you want to do is blow up on them.

Sometimes as a mother, you get very impatient and angry with your children and

you want to blow up, you caught it, right.

Maybe you're a mom.

And you understand exactly what this is saying.

So sentence number three, please, please.

Don't blow.

But I broke your Rolex.

Now that's something that would make you really angry, right?

If someone broke your Rolex watch.

Please don't blow up, but I broke your Rolex.

I, I, I don't want you to be angry.

I don't want you to, uh, to yell at me, but I broke your Rolex.

So again, please don't blow up, but I broke your Rolex again in English.

The second English FRA verb, you must understand and know how to use is blow up.

Now, the third English FRA verb is break.

In good again after me break in.

Excellent.

Last time after me break in.

Very good.

or shoes comfortable by wearing them.

This FRA verb is used a lot and it has different meanings, but we

are focusing on this meaning right now, again, to make new clothing or

shoes comfortable by wearing them.

Think about when you get a new pair of shoes, they look great, but

then you put them on and are not as comfortable as you'd like them to be.

But then after a few days, you kind of feel them getting a little

bit more comfortable, right?

Or you buy a new sweater or, or a new outfit.

And the first time you wear it, you're a little bit uncomfortable, but after

a few days, it starts to feel good.

You are breaking in the shoes or the outfit.

So let me give you an example sentence.

Here we go.

I need to break in these new Adidas right now.

They're not as comfortable, but I'll wear them a few more times

and they'll get real comfortable.

I need to break in these new Adidas.

Now. Check out sentence number.

My son always complains when he needs to break in his new shoes, because in

the beginning they're uncomfortable and maybe they hurt his feet.

Again, my son always complains when he needs to break in his new shoes.

You see how useful this English, FRA verb.

Now sentence number three, before our hike, we need to break in our new boots.

We don't want our feet to be hurting as we're going on our hike.

So before our hike, we need to break in our new boots.

Makes sense.

Right?

You got it.

So again, this is a very important English FRA verb that you must

understand and know how to.

Now number four is also a very important English FRA over verb after me break up.

Excellent.

Again, break up.

Great job last time after me break up.

Great job.

Now, this English frail verbs literally just means to end a

relationship to end a relationship.

So you're dating this guy or you're dating this female and you had a great

relationship, but then the two of you decide that it's time to part ways.

It's time for you all to end the relationship.

So you want to break.

This is the phrase over we use to describe the situation.

So let me explain it.

Using this example sentence.

I need to break up with my boyfriend because he was always up to no good.

He was always doing something bad.

So I realized that it's time for me to break up with him.

I need to break up with my boyfriend.

Now, what about this example?

Sentence?

Sophia was upset because her boyfriend broke up with her.

Her boyfriend ended their relationship.

It's easy.

Right. You understand it?

Good.

Now sentence number three.

I'm going to break up with my boyfriend of 10 years because

he's leading me down a bad path.

I don't feel good about myself when I'm with.

Again, I'm going to break up with my boyfriend of 10 years because he's

leading me down a bad path in English.

This phrase over begin to describe the situation is rake up.

I want you to use it at least one time today.

Now the fifth English FRA over verb.

That is very important for you to understand and know

how to use is brought back.

Good.

Again, brought back.

Excellent.

Excellent.

Now this English phrase over literally just means to make someone remember

something or think about it again.

One more time to make someone remember something or think about it again.

For example, many.

Months ago?

I don't want to bring back bad memories, but you need to give the police a

detailed account of what happened.

Imagine a crime was committed and that crime caused you a lot of pain.

The person hurt you or a family member.

And now you have to tell the police exactly what happened when

you're telling them what happened.

It's going to bring back bad memories.

In English we say brought back.

Makes sense.

Right.

for you to understand and use.

It's story time.

A, I said it's story time, like a little slow down at the end.

all right.

So I wanna tell you about a time.

When I was studying Korean and I had a presentation I was studying, um, at dejak

and that's the name of the university.

And I had to give a presentation completely in Korean.

It was kind of our midterm and everybody had to give a presentation now.

I don't mind giving presentations, but it's different when

it's in another language.

So I organized my presentation and I was a little bit nervous.

So I woke up the day of the presentation, the day of the

presentation I got up super early.

I think it may have been either 3:00 AM or 4:00 AM.

I got up at a time when I knew everyone in our dorm would be sleeping.

So when I woke up, everyone was sleep.

But I needed to practice.

I couldn't practice in my room because my roommate was sleeping and

I didn't wanna wake up anyone else.

So I went to the bathroom down the hall, made sure no one was in the bathroom

and I closed the door and I think I may have locked the door as well.

And I took out my presentation and the bathroom was pretty big.

And I stood in front of the mirror and I started practicing.

I can remember myself walking back and forth in front of the mirror.

Practicing.

And when I'd make a mistake, I'd start over and continue practicing

because I wanted to do well.

And I did this for about an hour and a half.

Then once it hit about five 30 or 6:00 AM, I went back to my room.

I, I got my stuff together and I went to take a shower to get ready

for class and fast forward to about nine or nine 30 in the morning.

I remember walking into the classroom, sitting down and the teacher started

the class and then she called my name and I had to go to the.

And I had to give my presentation.

Now I was still a little bit nervous, but because I had practiced and

prepared, I was able to do well.

I could tell by the looks on my classmates faces that they were understanding.

I could tell that my teacher was understanding and that she was nodding.

Um, letting me know that, okay, you're doing well.

You're doing.

But it was all because I practiced and prepared.

I didn't just walk into the classroom and expect to do a good job I prepared.

And the preparation helped me do well on my presentation.

Now, why did I tell you this story?

Because the same is true for you as an English learner.

Yes.

It was challenging for me to give a presentation in Korean.

It's challenging for you to learn how to speak English fluently,

like a native English speaker.

However, when you prepare, when you follow a plan, you'll be able to

achieve all of your English goals.

So I want you to remember that.

Prepare know that you can achieve your English goals and you definitely will.
