PEDESTRIAN | Learn English Vocabulary Meaning, Grammar, and Usage in Example English Sentences

Hi, everybody. My name is Esther. 

Oi pessoal. Meu nome é Ester.

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’. 

E neste vídeo vou falar sobre a palavra ‘pedestre’.

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking.

Um pedestre é alguém que está andando.

They might be walking on the street.

Eles podem estar andando na rua.

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

Ou na calçada onde ficam todas as lojas e restaurantes.

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

A calçada ou os pedestres podem estar atravessando a rua na faixa de pedestres.

That's the section with the white lines where you  have to go if you want to go to the other side. 

Essa é a seção com linhas brancas onde você deve ir se quiser ir para o outro lado.

So let's look at these example sentences.

Então, vamos dar uma olhada nessas frases de exemplo.

“Don't hit the pedestrian.”

“Não bata no pedestre.”

Okay.

OK.

So in Korea there are very many cars and drivers

Então na Coreia há muitos carros e motoristas

and they have to be  careful not to hit the people that are walking.

e eles têm que ter cuidado para não bater nas pessoas que estão andando.

The pedestrians.

Os pedestres.

So "Don't hit the pedestrian."

Portanto, "Não bata no pedestre".

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

O pedestre atravessa a faixa de pedestres.

Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are.

Novamente, a faixa de pedestres é onde estão as linhas brancas.

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side.

Você tem que caminhar até lá se quiser ir para o outro lado.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

O pedestre atravessa a faixa de pedestres.

The last example is,

O último exemplo é:

"There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

“Há muitos pedestres na calçada”.

Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to the street where pedestrians should walk.

Lembre-se, 'calçada' é a área próxima à rua por onde os pedestres devem caminhar.

It's safer, right?

É mais seguro, certo?

So "There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

Então “Há muitos pedestres na calçada”.

Okay. And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’.

OK. E é assim que usamos 'pedestre'.

Remember, it means somebody who's walking.

Lembre-se, significa alguém que está andando.
