PEDESTRIAN | Learn English Vocabulary Meaning, Grammar, and Usage in Example English Sentences

Hi, everybody. My name is Esther. 

Hola a todos. Mi nombre es Esther.

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’. 

Y en este vídeo voy a hablar de la palabra 'peatón'.

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking.

Un peatón es alguien que camina.

They might be walking on the street.

Quizás estén caminando por la calle.

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

O en la acera donde están todas las tiendas y restaurantes.

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

La acera o los peatones podrían estar cruzando la calle por un cruce de peatones.

That's the section with the white lines where you  have to go if you want to go to the other side. 

Esa es la sección con las líneas blancas a la que tienes que ir si quieres pasar al otro lado.

So let's look at these example sentences.

Así que veamos estas oraciones de ejemplo.

“Don't hit the pedestrian.”

"No golpees al peatón".

Okay.

Bueno.

So in Korea there are very many cars and drivers

En Corea hay muchos coches y conductores

and they have to be  careful not to hit the people that are walking.

y tienen que tener cuidado de no atropellar a la gente que camina.

The pedestrians.

Los peatones.

So "Don't hit the pedestrian."

Entonces "No golpees al peatón".

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

El peatón cruza el paso de peatones.

Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are.

Nuevamente, el cruce de peatones es donde están las líneas blancas.

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side.

Tienes que caminar hasta allí si quieres ir al otro lado.

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

El peatón cruza el paso de peatones.

The last example is,

El último ejemplo es:

"There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

"Hay muchos peatones en la acera".

Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to the street where pedestrians should walk.

Recuerde, 'acera' es el área al lado de la calle por donde deben caminar los peatones.

It's safer, right?

Es más seguro, ¿verdad?

So "There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

Entonces "hay muchos peatones en la acera".

Okay. And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’.

Bueno. Y así es como usamos "peatón".

Remember, it means somebody who's walking.

Recuerde, significa alguien que está caminando.
