PEDESTRIAN | Learn English Vocabulary Meaning, Grammar, and Usage in Example English Sentences

Hi, everybody. My name is Esther. 

こんにちは、皆さん。私の名前はエスターです。

And in this video, I'm going to  talk about the word ‘pedestrian’. 

このビデオでは、「歩行者」という言葉について話します。

A pedestrian is somebody who is walking.

歩行者とは歩いている人のことです。

They might be walking on the street.

彼らは通りを歩いているかもしれない。

Or on the sidewalk where all  the stores and restaurants are. 

または、すべての店やレストランがある歩道にあります。

The sidewalk or pedestrians might be  crossing the street on a crosswalk. 

歩道や歩行者が横断歩道で車道を渡っている可能性があります。

That's the section with the white lines where you  have to go if you want to go to the other side. 

それは、反対側に行きたければ行かなければならない白線のセクションです。

So let's look at these example sentences.

それでは、これらの例文を見てみましょう。

“Don't hit the pedestrian.”

「歩行者をはねないでください。」

Okay.

わかった。

So in Korea there are very many cars and drivers

そのため、韓国では車やドライバーが非常に多く

and they have to be  careful not to hit the people that are walking.

、歩いている人にぶつからないように注意しなければなりません。

The pedestrians.

歩行者たち。

So "Don't hit the pedestrian."

だから「歩行者にぶつからないように」。

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

歩行者は横断歩道を渡ります。

Again, the crosswalk is where the white lines are.

繰り返しますが、白線がある場所が横断歩道です。

You have to walk there if you  want to go to the other side.

反対側に行きたければそこを歩かなければなりません。

The pedestrian crosses the crosswalk.

歩行者は横断歩道を渡ります。

The last example is,

最後の例は

"There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

「歩道に歩行者が多い」です。

Remember, ‘sidewalk’ is the area next to the street where pedestrians should walk.

「歩道」とは、歩行者が歩くべき道路の隣のエリアであることに注意してください。

It's safer, right?

そのほうが安全ですよね？

So "There are many pedestrians on the sidewalk."

つまり「歩道には歩行者が多い」のです。

Okay. And so that's how we use ‘pedestrian’.

わかった。それが「歩行者」の使い方です。

Remember, it means somebody who's walking.

覚えておいてください、それは歩いている人を意味します。
