In this video, I’m going to tell you about countable and uncountable nouns.

આ વિડીયોમાં, હું તમને ગણી શકાય તેવી અને અગણિત સંજ્ઞાઓ વિશે જણાવવા જઈ રહ્યો છું.

It’s very important to know the difference between countable and uncountable nouns in

અંગ્રેજીમાં ગણતરીપાત્ર અને અસંખ્ય સંજ્ઞાઓ વચ્ચેનો તફાવત જાણવો ખૂબ જ મહત્વપૂર્ણ છે

English.

And students often get confused.

Countable nouns are nouns that you can count.

ગણનાપાત્ર સંજ્ઞાઓ એવી સંજ્ઞાઓ છે જેને તમે ગણી શકો છો.

Uncountable nouns are nouns that you cannot count.

અગણિત સંજ્ઞાઓ એવી સંજ્ઞાઓ છે જેને તમે ગણી શકતા નથી.

They’re usually a type or a group.

તેઓ સામાન્ય રીતે એક પ્રકાર અથવા જૂથ છે.

And they’re always singular.

અને તેઓ હંમેશા એકવચન હોય છે.

Let’s look at a few examples.

ચાલો થોડા ઉદાહરણો જોઈએ.

Countable nouns – you can say, “a dog.”

ગણનાપાત્ર સંજ્ઞાઓ - તમે કહી શકો છો, "એક કૂતરો."

You can say, “one dog,” “two dogs,” “three dogs,” and so on.

You can say, “a man.”

Again, you can say, “one computer, two computers.”

Well, you can say, “one house, two houses, three houses,” and so on.

These are countable nouns.

You can count them.

But if we look at uncountable nouns.

When you say, “water.”

You can’t say, “One water, two waters.”

It doesn’t make any sense.

You cannot count water.

Same goes for air.

તે જ હવા માટે જાય છે.

You can’t say, “one air, two airs.”

તમે કહી શકતા નથી, "એક હવા, બે હવા."

It’s just ‘air’.

તે માત્ર 'હવા' છે.

It’s uncountable.

તે અગણિત છે.

‘traffic’ ‘English’

'ટ્રાફિક' 'અંગ્રેજી'

‘Equipment’ These are all uncountable nouns.

'ઇક્વિપમેન્ટ' આ બધી અગણિત સંજ્ઞાઓ છે.

You cannot count them And they’re always singular.

તમે તેમને ગણી શકતા નથી અને તેઓ હંમેશા એકવચન હોય છે.

Now, let’s take a closer look at rules with countable nouns and uncountable nouns.

So how do we know if a word is countable or uncountable?

Well there are a few tricks that can help.

Let’s look at these words.

Some groups of words are very often uncountable.

And this can help you.

For example, liquids.

Water, juice, milk, beer.

All those words are uncountable.

Sugar, flour, salt, rice.

Like fruit, meat, cheese, and bread.

And finally, abstract ideas.

અને છેલ્લે, અમૂર્ત વિચારો.

Like time, information, love, and beauty.

જેમ કે સમય, માહિતી, પ્રેમ અને સુંદરતા.

Another trick is that most of the time, you can measure uncountable nouns.

બીજી યુક્તિ એ છે કે મોટાભાગે, તમે અસંખ્ય સંજ્ઞાઓને માપી શકો છો.

Let’s look at examples.

ચાલો ઉદાહરણો જોઈએ.

For example, if we take liquids.

ઉદાહરણ તરીકે, જો આપણે પ્રવાહી લઈએ.

I have two liters of milk.

મારી પાસે બે લિટર દૂધ છે.

Now, you cannot count milk.

હવે, તમે દૂધની ગણતરી કરી શકતા નથી.

But you can measure milk.

And you can count liters.

So you can say, “I have two liters of milk.”

You can say, “I have a glass of water.”

Or “I have glasses of water.”

“Cups of coffee.”

“Bottles of water.”

So you can measure this uncountable noun.

Same goes with powders.

“I have one kilogram of sugar.”

"મારી પાસે એક કિલો ખાંડ છે."

“Two kilograms of sugar.”

With materials and foods, we often use the word, ‘piece’.

સામગ્રી અને ખોરાક સાથે, આપણે વારંવાર શબ્દનો ઉપયોગ કરીએ છીએ, 'પીસ'.

For example, “I ate two pieces of cake.”

ઉદાહરણ તરીકે, "મેં કેકના બે ટુકડા ખાધા."

Or bread.

‘Some’ is an article that always works with uncountable nouns.

'કેટલાક' એવો લેખ છે જે હંમેશા અગણિત સંજ્ઞાઓ સાથે કામ કરે છે.

Some words can be both countable and uncountable nouns.

કેટલાક શબ્દો ગણનાપાત્ર અને અગણિત બંને સંજ્ઞાઓ હોઈ શકે છે.

Now not all of them.

હવે તે બધા નહીં.

But some of them.

પરંતુ તેમાંના કેટલાક.

Let’s take a look.

ચાલો એક નજર કરીએ.

“I would like to eat some cake.”

"હું થોડી કેક ખાવા માંગુ છું."

“I would like two pieces of cake.”

"મને કેકના બે ટુકડા જોઈએ છે."

So in these two sentences, ‘cake’ is obviously and uncountable noun.

તેથી આ બે વાક્યોમાં, 'કેક' દેખીતી રીતે અને અસંખ્ય સંજ્ઞા છે.

But if I say, “I would like to eat two cakes.”

પણ જો હું કહું, "મને બે કેક ખાવા ગમશે."

Suddenly, it becomes a countable noun.

અચાનક, તે ગણનાપાત્ર સંજ્ઞા બની જાય છે.

Why?

શા માટે?

Because in the first two sentences, we are talking about pieces of one cake.

કારણ કે પ્રથમ બે વાક્યોમાં, અમે એક કેકના ટુકડા વિશે વાત કરી રહ્યા છીએ.

In the last sentence, we are considering the whole cake.

છેલ્લા વાક્યમાં, અમે સમગ્ર કેકને ધ્યાનમાં લઈએ છીએ.

So it becomes countable.

તેથી તે ગણનાપાત્ર બને છે.

Another example.

બીજું ઉદાહરણ.

“I would like to eat some chicken.”

"હું થોડું ચિકન ખાવા માંગુ છું."

“I would like to eat a piece of chicken.”

"હું ચિકનનો ટુકડો ખાવા માંગુ છું."

Both sentences, uncountable noun, ‘chicken’.

બંને વાક્યો, અસંખ્ય સંજ્ઞા, 'ચિકન'.

But the last sentence, “I see two chickens.”

પરંતુ છેલ્લું વાક્ય, "મને બે ચિકન દેખાય છે."

Hmm, ‘chicken’, in this case, is a countable noun.

હમ્મ, 'ચિકન', આ કિસ્સામાં, ગણનાપાત્ર સંજ્ઞા છે.

Why?

શા માટે?

Because in the first two sentences, ‘chicken’ is food.

કારણ કે પહેલા બે વાક્યોમાં 'ચિકન' એ ખોરાક છે.

But in the last sentence, ‘chicken’ is an animal.

પરંતુ છેલ્લા વાક્યમાં, 'ચિકન' એક પ્રાણી છે.

So the animal is a countable noun.

તેથી પ્રાણી ગણી શકાય તેવી સંજ્ઞા છે.

‘Chicken’ as food is uncountable.

ખોરાક તરીકે 'ચિકન' અસંખ્ય છે.
