7 common English grammar mistakes

Grammar can be confusing in any language, but this is

particularly true of the English language.

However, by taking the time to look over common grammatical errors,

you will be able to avoid them in your spoken and written language.

In this section, we're going to look at

examples and we're going to give you the opportunity to

ensure that you're able to omit these mistakes when speaking and writing.

A mistake that both native and non-native speakers make is

using incorrectly form comparative adjectives.

Remember the rules.

For adjectives that are just one syllable,

we don't need to add the word more.

We just need to add er to the end of the adjective.

He plays volleyball good. No.

This mistake has to do with the use of adjectives and adverbs.

Look at the example.

Is the word good modifying a noun like volleyball or it’s modifying

the way he plays?

If you think the second option is correct, you are right.

As a result, using the word good won't be appropriate.

And now, let's check the correct answer. He plays volleyball well.

He eat pizza.

Laura go to the cinema every Friday. Tom study maths.

When using present simple, do not forget that the third

person singular is a little bit special.

And the spelling of some verbs is different too.

With some verbs, you only add an s. Others, you have to add es.

If a word has more than one syllable and ends in y,

the y changes to an i and you add es.

Sometimes we think that grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are

the most important parts of learning a language.

An important part of grammar is word order.

This is a common mistake you may make.

The position of the time adverb yesterday is not correct.

This will be the correct position. Yesterday, I ate an ice-cream.

I must to call him immediately. Excuse me, what did you say?

Modal verbs such as must, should, can, might and may

are never followed by the preposition to.

But why?

The verbs that follow modal verbs should only be in their base form.

They should never be conjugated into another form,

including the infinitive.
