Perfect Modals to Express Certainty (Past Possibilities) - English Grammar

you couldn't explain? I can scare myself quite  well if I let my imagination run away with me.

That comes from watching too many scary movies.

When our dog was a puppy, she would sometimes  stop, look up at the stairs, and bark.

She might have heard something that I didn't hear,  but this happened when I was the only one home,

so it couldn't have been another  person making noise upstairs.

"Might have heard" and "could have  been" are examples of perfect modals.  

"들었을 수도 있습니다"와 "했을 수도 있습니다 "는 완벽한 모달의 예입니다.

Let's talk about using perfect  modals to express past possibilities.

과거의 가능성을 표현하기 위해 완벽한 모달을 사용하는 것에 대해 이야기해 봅시다.

We use perfect modals to talk about the past. We  use a modal verb + "have" + the past participle  

우리는 과거에 대해 이야기하기 위해 완벽한 모달을 사용합니다. 조동사 + "have" + 본동사의 과거분사를 사용합니다

of the main verb. We form the negative by adding  "not." Might not have heard. Could not have been.  

. 'not'을 추가하여 부정을 형성합니다 . 듣지 못했을 수도 있습니다. 그럴 수 없었습니다.

With "could," it's common to use the  contraction "couldn't." Couldn't have been.  

'할 수 있다'와 함께 '할 수 없다'라는 축약형을 사용하는 것이 일반적입니다. 그럴 수 없었습니다.

which verbs express strong certainty and  which ones simply suggest a possibility?

It could have been a ghost.  It might have been a mouse.

There had to have been a logical explanation.

What do you think? Well, first let me  point out that I added a semi-modal:

have to. The past tense is "had to."

해야 합니다. 과거 시제는 "했다"입니다.

Examples 1, 2, and 3 all express less certainty.  

예 1, 2 및 3은 모두 덜 확실성을 나타냅니다.

These are past possibilities  -- not strong ones, weak ones.

이것들은 과거의 가능성입니다 -- 강한 것도, 약한 것도 아닙니다.

Could have been. Might have been. May have been.

I'm just considering ideas. I'm  speculating. This is speculation.

In contrast, "must have been" and "had  to have been" express strong certainty.  

대조적으로 "해야 했다"와 " 해야 했다"는 강한 확신을 나타냅니다.

The negative "couldn't have  been" expresses impossibility.

부정 "couldn't have be"는 불가능을 나타냅니다.

Imagine your friend had a strange dream last night

about a monkey driving an old  car to get away from a tornado.  

낡은 차를 몰고 다니는 원숭이에 관한 이상한 꿈을 꾸었다고 상상해 보세요 .

"What do you think it all means?" your friend  asks. Offer suggestions using perfect modals.

"그게 다 무슨 뜻이라고 생각해?" 친구가 묻습니다. 완벽한 모달을 사용하여 제안을 제공하십시오.

Here's my example. You must have felt  worried or stressed when you went to  

여기 내 예가 있습니다. 잠자리에 들었을 때 걱정이 되거나 스트레스를 받았을 것입니다

sleep. That's why you dreamed about a tornado.  Note how we can also use a progressive form:

You must have been feeling stressed.  You may have been feeling stressed.  

스트레스를 받았을 것입니다. 스트레스를 받았을 수도 있습니다.

That's modal verb + "have been" + the  present participle (the -ing form).

그것은 조동사 + "have been" + 현재 분사(-ing 형식)입니다.

Here's one more strange photo.  Tell me why those heads are there.  

이상한 사진이 하나 더 있습니다. 그 머리가 왜 거기에 있는지 말해봐.

Suggest some possibilities and use perfect modals.
