Does anyone listen to the radio anymore?

ラジオを聞くことはありますか？

When I'm in the car, I sometimes do.

私はときどき車で 衛星ラジオを聞いています

I listen to satellite radio stations.

The word "radio" has two vowel sounds together.

「radio」の単語は 母音が２つ並びます

A long E and a long O.

長母音Ｅと長母音Ｏです

We connect those two sounds with the help of a Y sound.

この２つの音を Ｙの音でつなぎます

Not "ra dee o" but "ra dee yo."

「ra dee o」ではなく 「ra dee yo」です

ra dee yo

In fast speech...in smooth, connected speech

速くスムーズに話すために

we often need the help of a /y/

Ｙの音を使って 母音と母音をつなぎます

to connect one vowel to another

either within a word or between two words.

単語内のときも 単語間のときもあります

This connection happens after a long E.

長母音Ｅにつなげる例は

As in "see into your heart"

「sEE Into your heart」や 「tEA And cookies」です

"tea and cookies"

After a long A: "all day and all night"

長母音Ａの例は 「all dAY And night」です

After a long I sound.

長母音Ｉの例は

As in "say hi and bye"

「say hI And bye」や 「the skY And clouds」です

"the sky and clouds"

And it happens after the diphthong "oy"

二重母音ＯＹの例は 「jOY And peace」です

As in "joy and peace."

So remember this linking with a Y sound

Ｙの音による リンキングが起こるのは

can happen word to word, as in "in the evening."

単語と単語の間 「in thE Evening」や

Or within a word, as in "medium"

単語内の「medIUm」や

"video"

「vidEO」です
