it's a very common phrasal verb

the verb is to break down

I though of this phase to share with you today

because one of my students has a problem with transportation this morning

so this is the first way that you can use the verb 'to break down'

the third way that we can use the phase break down is for describing an emotional state

if a person breaks down, it means that they are not able to handle what is happening

they are nervous they are anxious and they are not able to cope with the situation
