you probably studied a foreign language in school  but haven't been able to actually learn it that  

me you think that you're just bad at languages  period but what if I tell you that less effort  

is the key to success and you can definitely  learn any language if you use the techniques

believe me when I just started learning English  and Spanish there were so many different things  

that seemed extremely hard for me I was like  oh my God I will never be able to understand  

this concept or this grammar rule but then I don't  know how just naturally at one point I was like oh  

I think I'm ready I think I'm ready to understand  the difference between this grammar Rule and that  

grammar rule it's time like now I understand when  I read the grammar rule I can actually understand  

it because now it's the time and I'm ready and  as a language learner I struggle a lot with being  

patient because I always feel like I want to  progress faster in English I struggled the most

when you're learning a language you have to choose  the right resources and I feel like for most of  

us that is probably the most difficult thing to  do it's important to choose the materials that  

you can understand but that are only a little bit  challenging not too much and my tri comprehension  

is a lot more valuable than let's say something  that is extremely hard to understand it's going  

to be better for you if you can enjoy language  learning instead of feeling like it's a chore  

I remember at one point in my anguage Learning  Journey I got so tired of using materials that  

were too difficult for me and the reason why that  happened was because I was learning English at  

school I think it's true for many of you when I  was in high school I had English and unfortunately  

if I am honest with myself right now a lot of  materials were extremely hard for me at that point  

so one day when I was sitting at home I decided to  just do something easy like a lot easier and you  

know what what I had fun like I actually started  liking English and that made me think I don't like  

learning English when I go to school because  all of the materials there are too hard so for  

me to actually start enjoying using all of those  materials I need to go to that stage like I was  

not there yet I was still here which was good but  you know still not there all of these materials  

were extremely hard for me I remember I even  switched to reading children's books at some point  

because I just got so tired and I wanted to change  something I wanted to change something about my  

English learning and that's the thing that helped  me a lot technique number three is immersion and  

when I talk about immersion I mean you creating  this environment around yourself because I know  

that many people love to complain oh I don't  have an opportunity to travel I don't live in an  

english- speaking country for example but that's  not immersion of course if you go to an English  

speaking country and your goal is to study English  and when you're there you're going to speak a  

lot you're going to meet new people that's great  that's immersion but often times I see people go  

to all of those language courses abroad and they  stick to their own group you know and especially  

to the group with all the people from their home  country and they never even speak the language so  

it's not a guarantee that if you go to the country  where this language is spoken you're magically  

going to learn the language immediately and I'm a  good example because when I just moved to Mexico  

I was not studying Spanish at all because I  had other things going on and to be honest I  

was quite lazy at that time studying Spanish was  not my priority and uh to be completely honest  

like I did not learn anything I was surrounded  by Mexicans because I live in Mexico and when  

I just moved it was the same thing but all I knew  was how to say hello how to order something at a  

restaurant but it was definitely not speaking  Spanish but when I lived in Russia for example  

and I was actively studying English I did not  have any you know English-speaking friends and  

again I lived in Russia like I only communicated  to people in Russian but that didn't stop me from  

studying English and from getting to a pretty  high level all by myself while only living in  

Russia technique number four is grow mindset if  you're only telling yourself that you're bad at  

languages your subconscious will start believing  that the fear mindset can significantly impede  

your progress when it comes to language learning  and when it comes to everything in life if you're  

afraid of doing something and that fear stops you  from actually doing it well then that's it and you  

really need to work on your mindset when learning  a foreign language many people are often afraid  

of making mistakes but it's inevitable if all you  do is sit home and complain about how afraid you  

are of making mistakes well this mindset is  going to hinder your progress you're going to  

stop practicing and then you're just going to stop  speaking this language at all instead you should  

understand that making mistakes is a natural  part of the whole journey every single person  

when learning a language makes mistakes we're  all not perfect everyone makes mistakes every  

single language learner you're not unique here I  always try to look at mistakes as opportunities to  

learn something if I make a mistake and someone  corrects it I always ask them oh why was that a  

mistake for example I didn't understand or I try  to ask Chad gbt or I Google it because again if  

you change your mindset if you stop being afraid  of making mistakes you can actually grow from them  

many Learners are often afraid of being judged  by native speakers and other learners for their  

language ability this fear of negative evaluation  can lead to a lack of confidence and I understand  

why many of you feel this way it's probably  maybe because of like school systems in many  

countries you know like everyone telling you you  have to be at this level and you're not at this  

level everyone has to be you know great everyone  has to be at the same level but sometimes maybe  

you're just you know you need more time and that  was exactly what I struggle with a lot when I  

lived in Russia when I was a high school student  and I was learning English for me the pace was  

just a little bit too fast like once I could start  studying English by myself at my own pace and use  

the resources that I liked that were at my level  I started making progress so try to remember that  

everyone starts as a beginner and many native  speakers really appreciate when you speak their  

language instead of choosing something else I I  try to focus on communication and learning instead  

of worrying about what others might think  about my English or about what others might  

think about my Spanish I try to communicate my  thoughts effectively I try to learn I try to make  

supportive friends and that's all that matters  to me fear of failure I completely understand  

that many of you might have this failure that one  day you start talking to native speaker and then  

you're not going to understand something and it's  going to be all bad the sphere is often paralyzing  

like you literally don't know what to do you don't  know what to say and you feel lost and sometimes  

it discourages language Learners from actually you  know pursuing their dreams and contining learning  

the language here try to recognize the language  learning is a gradual process there will be lots  

of ups and downs again mistakes and setbacks are  a part of the journey and you can learn from them  

and grow if there is miscommunication don't worry  about it it happens sometimes it happened to me  

many times and yes it doesn't feel amazing when  that happens like sometimes to me I still feel  

kind of paralyzed when I try to talk to a native  speaker for example here in Mexico and Spanish and  

they don't understand me and I've repeated over  and over again and they still don't understand  

me and I'm like what is going on like am I even  speaking Spanish but if that happens I always  

stop and remind myself that it's okay maybe I can  type it out on my phone maybe I can use Google  

Translate just breathe and relax some of you might  be afraid that you're just not good at languages  

and this can actually become a self-fulfilling  prophecy like you're just not good at languages  

that's it that's why you can't learn Chinese or  Korean or Japanese or Spanish or English you're  

just not good at languages that's it but in  reality language learning requires effort and  

practice and your brain is a adaptable let's be  honest many of us just say that I'm not good at  

languages because we use it as an excuse maybe  someone is asking us oh are you still learning  

English or oh are you still learning Spanish  and you reply Noah you know I'm just not good  

at languages instead of admitting to yourself that  maybe you didn't have enough motivation maybe you  

didn't have you know good systems at place to  learn the language successfully maybe you were  

just lazy and that's it it's not that you're not  good at languages I mean you learned your native  

language somehow right you can speak your native  language you can understand your native language  

so the same thing is true for your second language  of course it's going to require a lot of effort  

and a lot of time but you can do it and the last  thing that many language Learners struggle with  

is the fear of commitment you might be afraid  that you just don't have enough time to learn  

a language and then it's just not going to be  successful and May maybe that's true you have  

to be realistic with yourself if you want to  study a very complicated language let's say  

when I was deciding to dedicate five years of my  life to go to college and study Chinese I had to  

be realistic with myself learning Chinese meant  that immediately I had less time to study English  

for example or to start studying a new foreign  language so before you even start learning a new  

language you have to be honest with yourself you  have to sit down open your calendar and be like  

can I actually do it do I actually want to learn  this language do I want to commit because yes it's  

going to take a lot of your time and creating  a daily routine when it comes to learning a new  

language is absolutely important if you know that  right now you just can't like you know you won't  

be able to create this daily routine and stick  to it then maybe it's not time yet for example  

that's what happening to my Chinese right now  every single time I'm like okay I'm ready I can  

start you know studying Chinese very consistently  and actually like improve my skills a lot I'm like  

do I actually have the time or do I actually want  to make the time for that and often times I say no  

because when I think about that I'm like oh but I  have Spanish and I really want to you know become  

an advanced in Spanish I want my Spanish to be  as good as my English I wouldn't be able to feel  

super confident and so yeah that's why I choose  Spanish instead and sometimes you'll have to make  

sacrifices for the things that are more important  to you so that pretty much sums up the whole video
