10 Ways to Say "Thank You" in English

Now, it's not only special because of the location where I'm at.

You're probably not used to seeing this, but it's special because today I am celebrating 1 million YouTube subscribers.

There you go. You can see me there and my daughter's dog poster in the background there.

We started this in 2009 and I have over 250 videos on my site now, which is kind of amazing when I think about it.

I didn't think what I what I'm doing here on EngVid would ever get this big and that I would have over 200 or 250 videos on my site.

And I just want to express my gratitude to all of you for helping me to reach this.

I often say that without students, there are no teachers.

So this plaque, just to bring it up one more time, this plaque, it's as much for you and it's as much about you as it is about me.

So thank you. Thank you. Thank you so very much.

And I know I'm saying thank you a lot, and that's because when someone gives you something or when someone does something nice for you, it's common courtesy to show gratitude.

So I want to show gratitude to you guys for being with me all these years, for clicking subscribe, for clicking the play button,

and for helping me to reach one million YouTube subscribers. And as a way of me saying thank you,

I'm going to teach you 10 sentences that you can use to show gratitude in your life as well.

So I'm not going to waste any time. Let's just jump into it and start with thank you. Right.

So the most basic word, of course, is thank you. So if someone passes you the salt at dinnertime, for example, you can say, oh, thank you.

Now, if you want to emphasize a little more, add a little bit, you know, a little bit more spice to your thank you.

You can also say thank you very much or thank you so much. Right.

So, again, thank you. Thank you very much or thank you so much.

And again, thank you is a very neutral, standard way to show gratitude to someone who has helped you or who has given you something.

If you want to be a little bit more casual, you can just say thanks. Right. So thanks.

You can also say thanks so much or thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot is very common. It's more informal, more casual, used among friends.

So, for example, you know, if someone sends you an email and they give you an answer that you have been waiting for,

you can say thanks, thanks a lot or thanks so much.

Next up, if you want to show your gratitude, if you want to show your appreciation for something.

So, for example, if someone drives you somewhere because you don't have a car,

you can say thank you, of course, or thanks, or I really appreciate it. All right.

So you can say I appreciate it or emphasized, like I said, I really appreciate it.

So that is another way to show your appreciation for something, for an act or to a person who has helped you in some way.

Another way to show your appreciation, if someone does something to support you,

like, for example, if they support something you do, like they support your YouTube channel, like you're doing to me,

if they support a performance, maybe, you know, you are doing a play or you're in a musical or you're acting in something

and they come to, you know, your performance or maybe you're doing a breast cancer run,

you know, where you're running to collect money for breast cancer research.

You can say to a person who supports you when you do these things, you can say I appreciate your help.

I appreciate your support. And you can also say, you know, if someone gives you a response,

you can say I appreciate your feedback about a performance, for example.

You can also say I appreciate your input if someone gives you their opinion about something you have done.

Now, another way to say I appreciate or I thank, I have used the word gratitude in this video.

And if you want to use the adjective form of that, you can say I am grateful.

So, you can say I'm grateful for something. I'm grateful for your support.

I'm grateful for your help. I'm grateful for your feedback. I'm grateful for your input.

So, I appreciate your support. I'm grateful for your support.

Next, if someone was instrumental in helping you accomplish something.

So, if they were very important to you and they really were necessary for you to accomplish something,

like, for example, my books. My sister helped to make the covers.

She made the covers. She didn't help make the covers. She made the covers for my books.

So, I'm very, very grateful to her for that. I can say I couldn't have done it without you.

This is a very useful phrase if you really want to show your deep appreciation to someone

who was necessary for you to achieve something or accomplish something.

Just like this here. I got this because of you guys.

So, honestly, I couldn't have done it without you. I couldn't have received this without you.

So, thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

Next, if someone does something that really touches your heart or which has a significant impact on your life

and what you do, there are various ways that you can express your gratitude in this type of situation.

But one of the most common is, "This means a lot to me." Right?

You can also say, "It means a lot to me."

So, it's very important to you. It has value to you. It means a lot to you.

It has had an impact on your heart and your soul. It really touches you, you know?

And another way, a more idiomatic way to say, "This means a lot to me," is, "This means the world to me."

Now, this is another level above, you know, just that this means a lot.

It means, "This means a lot, a lot." The world is very large.

It's funny that we can't say, like, "This means the universe," or "This means the galaxy."

No, no. The idiom is, "This means the world to me."

It's another way to say, "This means a lot." I really appreciate it.

And you can specify what means a lot to you or what means the world to you.

So, for example, you can say, "Your help means the world."

Now, you don't even have to say, "To me." You can just say, "It means the world."

Or, "Your support means the world." "Your help means the world," like I mentioned before.

You can add, "To me," like, "Your support means the world to me." "Your help means the world to me."

Or you can just say, "Your support means the world."

So, that is another way you can use to show gratitude.

Finally, if you want to say that, "Whoa, what you did is amazing, and I feel that I need to do something for you now,"

you can say, "Thanks. I owe you one."

So, if you owe someone something, it means that you are in their debt.

Like, you have to give something in response, in reaction to what they did for you.

So, you want to, you know, do something that is equally kind, equally nice,

equally beneficial for the person who has helped you before.

So, that's it. Those are the ten ways that I have, you know, given you today

so that you can show gratitude to the people in your life.

Just like I want to show my gratitude to you in this video.
