English Speaking Conversation Making Plans and Decisions

making plans and decisions okay this one  is going to be a longer conversation last  

couple of lessons were short so I thought maybe  we'll do a long conversation let's take a look  

at this conversation are you doing anything  this weekend are you are you doing anything  

this weekend nothing exciting what are you up to  nothing exciting what are you up to how about you  

the deadline for Community College registration  is approaching fast and I still haven't made up  

my mind about which course to take okay so he's  going to go to Community College he is registering  

so the registration is approaching fast it's it's  it's coming soon it's quickly approaching and I  

still haven't made up my mind so if you make up  your mind you decide you make a decision and he  

still hasn't made up his mind about it he doesn't  know what he's going to do he doesn't know which  

courses he is going to take so he said I still  haven't made up my mind about which courses to

take what are your options what are your options  what are your options options well I've been  

debating thinking about whether to take a course  on marketing or one on financial fundamentals the  

the basics the fundamentals of finances Financial  fundamentals he's debating he's thinking deeply  

about he's weighing the pros and cons on which  course to take whether he should take a course  

on marketing to promote his business or ah or  one on financial fundamentals to take care of  

the money that's a tough choice that is a tough  choice difficult difficult decision tough choice I  

guess it all boils down to which one meets your  goals which one meets your goals that's what  

boils down to boils down to that means something  is the main thing or the most important part of  

a problem or a situation it all boils down  to the main thing is which one meets your  

goals well my long-term goal is to start my own  business that's his goal that's his longterm  

goal not his shortterm goal his long-term goal  is to start his own business good for you good  

for you the advantage of the marketing course  is that it will help me learn how to promote my  

business the advantage of the marketing course  is that it will help me learn how to promote my

business for for sure for sure there's so much  you can do you know a friend of mine sells the  

jewelry she makes online and she's doing great  she's doing great she's a friend of mine and  

she sells her jewelry that she makes it herself  and she sells the jewelry online she's making  

a lot of money she's doing great all right on  the other hand I need to be smart about money  

and manage my finances I need to  be smart about money and manage my

finances whatever you decide to do  sounds like you can't lose it'll be  

a good decision if you choose a or  you choose B both are good you can't

lose I've even considered taking  both courses at the same time  

you're a bright guy go for  it you're smart you can do

it the downside the bad thing is however the  downside however is that I'd have to Fork out  

a lot of money at once at one time I'd have to  pay a lot of money so to Fork out if you Fork  

out money you pay it reluct stly you don't want  to pay it but you pay it anyway you Fork it out  

you can even demand money say hey give me my  money Fork it out Fork it out give me my money  

all right I'm not a millionaire millionaire I'm  not a millionaire yet yet if you emphasize the  

yet that means I'm going to be a millionaire  someday but not yet I'm not a millionaire

yet I suppose going into debt in order  to learn how to manage your money would  

be defeating the purpose all right yeah  that's a good sentence huh I suppose going  

into debt paying lots of money in order  to learn how to manage your money would  

be defeating the purpose it'd be against what  you're actually doing you're learning how to  

manage your money but you're forking out lots  of money it's defeating the purpose maybe I

I enrolled in the herbal studies certificate  program yeah guess what I enrolled I entered  

the herbal studies certificate program so it's  a program that gives you a certificate that says  

you are an expert on herbals things to do with  herbs herbs I say it with no h herbs herbal herbal  

most Americans say it like I do herbs herbal  herbal tea do you drink herbal tea okay how come I  

thought you intended to go to med school how come  you how come how come you enrolled in the herbal  

studies certificate program I thought you intended  to go to medical school med school medical school

my parents have their heart set on me becoming  a doctor my parents have their heart that's  

interesting their parents are of one heart  instead of my parents have their hearts set  

on me my parents have their heart so they both  think the same way they have they're of one heart  

my parents have their heart set on me becoming a  doctor my parents want me to become a doctor but  

holistic healing holistic healing and alternative  therapy are more up my alley o there's a lot of  

words there did you get them all what's holistic  holistic is the whole body approach to health care  

so you treat your mind your body and your spirit  as one connected system that's holistic healing  

and alternative itive therapy um is therapy that's  different from the regular medical therapy you  

know at the hospital but this is more alternative  so things like acupuncture yoga and massage more  

holistic doing Mind Body Connection and for  this person it's more up my alley more up my  

alley right up one's alley me means ideally suited  to one's interests especially suited to someone's  

tastes or abilities it suits my taste it suits my  abilities so if something is right up your alley  

it is the kind of thing you like or you know a  lot about it you know a lot about it it's up your  

alley that's right up my alley I know a lot about  that that's my thing my parents parents have their  

heart set on me becoming a doctor but holistic  healing and alternative therapy are more up my

alley you've got to follow  your heart that's what you  

got to do you've go to you've got to follow your

heart the good thing about the course is  that it's really handson I can hardly wait  

I can hardly wait I'm excited to do it I can  hardly wait handson Hands-On means knowledge  

is gained by actually doing something Hands-On  training rather than learning about it from books  

or lectures so instead of reading books and  lectures you actually do it I wish I were as  

enthusiastic and decisive as you the more I think  about it the harder it gets the more I think about  

the decision I need to make the harder it gets  to make that decision the more I think about  

it the harder it gets I need to be more decisive  make a decision I wish I were as enthusiastic and

decisive maybe you shouldn't  think about it so much  

you're thinking about it too much  maybe you shouldn't think about it so

much yeah but I don't want to make a decision  I'll regret I don't want to make a decision I'll

regret in any case you have to trust  yourself and listen to your inner

voice your heart your your  feeling your true feeling

R then let's go to my family's restaurant whoa  look at that his family has a restaurant let's go

living he was a cook he opened his own  restaurant oh so the family restaurant
