uh for the first year I was still trying to learn  Japanese the traditional way by studying textbooks

and there weren't really I mean YouTube wasn't  even available until 2006 I think and at even

it was very frustrating I couldn't find my words  all of the the typical kinds of things that most

I failed to learn Japanese in Japan for the  first year uh and I was very frustrated again

uh but once I figured out how to learn which I  can go into more detail in this video about um

it became uh the process became a lot a lot easier  but so the the first kind of obstacle was the the

compliments even if they think your Japanese is  not very good it's really like encouraging you uh

he's younger than me but he was I don't know five  or six years old or something uh and I had been

learning Japanese for about the same amount of  time and he was speaking better Japanese than I

so basically I was uh at first like she gave me  this compliment I was feeling a little bit of
