What To Do When You Forget A Word While Speaking English

welcome to another live video here on YouTube uh  hopefully this won't be too long I will stay and  

answer questions people have but this is really  about how to help you learn vocabulary better  

so you don't forget your words when you speak  but also what to do if you do forget your words  

because this even happens to native speakers  well hello everyone uh let me erase the board

here I had an interesting conversation uh few  days ago two three days ago I was talking with  

a it's like a group of Japanese business people  uh so I was speaking all in Japanese and answering  

questions and I got to speak for a little bit  about what I do and sometimes when I'm thinking  

about something I want to say in Japanese like  uh maybe that's not the best way to express it  

so all I do is I switch to something else and  so typically because of the way I learn I'm  

able to recall at least some way to express  myself it might not be the most ideal thing  

but it allows me to keep speaking all right so  that's what we'll be talking about today nice  

to see everybody there uh Marissa hello ibraim  good to see you again let's see clevens how was  

your day teacher well my day is just getting  started it is what time now 9:47 a.m. here in  

Nagasaki Japan Wendy the language Enthusiast  from Nagoya nice to see you there again glad  

to see you and aoic aoic proxy here from New  York free and Marissa says how can I improve my  

speaking well there there are a couple different  things you can do but the general idea uh about  

how to improve one Speaking is that you really  need to understand the language like a native  

and that means that uh what's the best way to  explain this so I've talked about this I I'll  

I'll kind of cover this broad topic before I  get into the main subject of this video but  

in general what people do when they're learning a  language is their so here's the language learner  

over here and this is the language you want to  speak uh so in this case uh let's just say it's  

English so you want to speak the English language  and what a learner typically does is is they're  

going through a bunch of filters before they get  to the language and so they learn a slower version  

of the language they're trying to study the rules  of the language rather than really understanding  

how the rules work they're using translations  they're not getting the real kind of language  

that natives would use in real conversations and  because you have all these filters between you and  

the language then it's really difficult for you  to speak because you're not actually learning the  

real language in a way that would help you speak  so what natives are doing and this happens when  

you are learning your native language is you're  just going directly to the language itself so  

you're not putting rules and other things in  between you and the language I I've told this  

story before I told this recently actually um when  I was a little kid I used to I loved uh Superman  

so the the character of Superman uh and I just  thought that was a cool name Superman uh but when  

I was a little bit older my mom took me to it was  like an opera or a play or something like that uh  

at a theater at a stage play and we were looking  at the screen or the stage I should say so there  

are people standing up on the stage like this and  we were sitting down here in the audience and I  

saw up above people there was writing because  they had to translate it I guess it was in I  

don't remember it was like in Italian or something  like that but they had the English writing of what  

the words were above the characters or above  the people performing and I said oh that's  

really interesting because usually on a movie  or a TV show the words are at the bottom of  

the screen and I knew those were subtitles and  so I said oh look at that these are subtitles  

so subtitles everybody knows subtitles and my  mom said oh those are super titles supertitles

supertitles and so here uh I immediately  understood oh super actually means something  

there's a meaning to that it means over and above  and that's where we get the name Superman all  

right and so she was explaining like yeah just  like we have subtitles like a submarine goes  

under the water below the surface of the water we  have supertitles that are above the water as well  

I think I told this story I don't know a few  videos ago um but this is an example of just  

going directly to the language where you get to  understand it directly through a fluency trigger  

like a simple story and so you're not really  thinking about okay I need to get a word list  

of various things that you're probably not going  to remember uh here just by this simple contrast  

here of taking something you already know  so that's where you are and you're learning  

something new so you already know subtitles but  then you're learning supertitles over here and  

so now you learn it very easily and you never  forget it so you can use it automatically when  

you speak so the whole point of learning this  way is connecting directly with the language  

so you understand it easily so you eliminate any  doubt you have about using something and so after  

I understood this I also understood other things  like Supernatural or superimpose or uh let's see  

like super uh super structure or substructure  so if you look at a building so here's my  

quick picture of a building over here so the  building you when we have this ground level here  

there is a bottom part under the ground that's the  foundation of the building this is called the sub

structure and of course the  part up here is the super

structure so a structure like a building all  right does that make sense so the idea here  

when when when we're learning something directly  we go directly to the language so I'm not using  

any subtitles or excuse me I'm not using any  translations to teach you I'm not trying to  

give you a list of rules or a list of vocabulary  to memorize I'm just helping you understand the  

language so you eliminate any doubt you have about  learning the language so that's how you learn to  

speak so the main reason people struggle to speak  is because they have lots of doubts in their minds  

about vocabulary or grammar or pronunciation so  if you can delete those destroy those eliminate  

those make those disappear then you are left with  confidence and fluency all right so uh in this  

example again like I didn't have you stand up and  repeat these words you don't have to say the word  

subtitles or supertitles or something like that  I'm not asking you to repeat vocabulary again  

and again or even say anything the whole point is  that you can understand it automatically because  

you're learning directly to the language you're  connecting directly with the language rather than  

trying to go through a bunch of steps where  people really it just makes the language much  

more difficult to learn and this creates all  of the doubt that stops people from speaking  

so don't do this do this if you want to speak all  right now this is actually a good introduction to  

talking about how to learn so one thing I'm I'm  showing you with this is that if we can connect  

with the language directly then uh another another  way to think about this is instead of like me as  

a person here you're trying to learn a language  we're also connecting situations with vocabulary  

and so I'm not putting any translations in between  myself or the situation and the vocabulary so here  

the situation is like Words above a screen and I'm  able to connect that oh look at that supertitles  

so it's above the screen rather than subtitles  which are below or at the bottom of the screen  

all right so I'm able to learn something directly  uh and in the case of oh no now we got a police a  

police truck or something police car so in this  case uh we really want to help people understand  

the situation and that's what what's enabling us  to connect with the vocabulary all right so don't  

try to put a bunch of steps in here like this we  don't need to translate it or or slow it down or  

something or uh learn a bunch of rules we want to  understand those things but it's really important  

how we do that because how we learn is how  we speak okay so uh for the topic of this  

video talking about when let me clean this up a  bit when we're talking about getting stuck in a

conversation the most important thing about  this that I can remind you of is that there  

are always many ways to express something okay  and we'll see if we can use chat to get you to  

do a little bit of practice with that in  this video so if I have something I want  

to say let's let's see uh the situation  is let's see I'm talking about uh I want  

to make my friend feel better okay so  my friend looks sad my friend looks

sad and I don't know what's wrong maybe I can ask  him some questions what's wrong with him uh but  

there are different things I could say to him to  maybe make him feel better all right so if I'm in  

a con conversation and maybe I can't remember  one of these things I can easily switch to  

another because the way I'm learning is connecting  situations with vocabulary and the the the core of  

this the main point of this idea is that we are  not learning through a like one toone translation  

I'm looking at what different natives are saying  in different situations or even what different  

natives are saying in this one situation like uh  in the course of my life I've seen many different  

ways of of expressing this maybe somebody feeling  sad I want to make them feel better I've seen that  

in movies I've seen my parents or friends  or teachers or other people talk about this  

so what are the different things that people  might say to make someone feel better okay so  

my friend looks sad I want to say something  to make them feel better uh I could say uh

cheer cheer up so cheer up so that's one thing  I could say now of course it depends exactly on  

maybe the situation if my friend's dad died  or something he just died or there's some  

major problem I probably would not say cheer  up but let's just say I don't know maybe he  

forgot something or he's feeling a little bit  sad and it's maybe not that big of a deal all  

right but he's still feeling a little bit sad  maybe he I don't know like he was talking with  

a girl or he missed a chance to talk with a  girl or something just something like that  

so nobody's dying it's not that that big  of an emergency but he does feel bad and  

I want to make him feel better so I could say  cheer up or I could say it's okay or it's all

right it's all right or you'll be fine

you'll so because of the way I learn when I'm  in a conversation if I forget one of these I  

can easily switch to another because I'm spending  all of my time learning these different ways of  

expressing myself okay so as I hear different  natives I'm getting lots of good examples of o  

in this situation people say this all right so  like I was uh like getting an example from from  

some uh like a friend of mine he was talking  uh in Japanese about like like important words

so important words or powerful words or  meaningful words or like heavy heavy words  

these are all similar vocabulary you could use to  express something that's important to you like I  

have some some heavy things to say I have some  important things to say some powerful things to  

say uh but it just means the you're you're trying  to make the vocabulary more powerful or more  

important uh but you're having different ways of  being able to express that all right there's not  

there's not ever just one way to say something  I mean there's all like I'm trying to think of  

a situation where there's only one way to express  it and I can't think of one so it's possible but  

I doubt it all right so the whole point of this  is that the the preparation for conversations  

if you prepare the right way by actually learning  different ways that people might pronounce things  

or hearing different people uh say things that's  what's going to make it so if you forget one  

word you can easily switch to something else all  right so uh people another thing I'll just make  

very clear about this is that often Learners think  that the the vocabulary equals fluency and and the  

vocabulary does not equal fluency vocabulary is  just it's kind of like the the the materials that  

you have uh but you can think about vocabulary  like a bunch of little Lego bricks like this  

and if you have many different Lego bricks you  can stick them together in different ways but if  

you don't know how to how to stick them together  you don't have instructions or you not thinking  

about that then it's just a bunch of pieces and  you can't do anything with them all right so uh  

learning more words is not going to get you fluent  but learning different ways of expressing yourself  

and actually understanding the vocabulary very  well that way either you just don't forget it or  

you have an easy way to switch to something  else all right so both of those problems  

are solved depending on how you learn and so most  people are not learning like that they're as I  

showed at the beginning of the video they're uh  learning a lot through translations and they're  

spending time studying things that probably will  create more doubt for them rather than less and  

if you do that then it just becomes more and more  difficult to speak all right and so that's a big  

cause of forgetting things when you speak really  you just don't know the vocabulary well enough  

and that's what causes you to struggle all right  so instead of trying to get more Lego bricks it's  

better to spend time figuring out new ways of  assembling those same Lego bricks so even just  

I'm thinking about this Lego example from my own  house with real Lego bricks so I bought a few over  

the years uh Lego sets for my two daughters and  they enjoy playing with those uh and we haven't  

bought any new sets in a long time because we can  just make things out of all the pieces we already  

have so there's very few things that if they say  oh can we make a castle or can we make a pirate  

ship or can we make whatever uh typically we have  the pieces for that or we could just think of some  

interesting way to make it uh with the pieces  we already have so you don't become better at  

at building Lego by just buying more parts or  buying more pieces you get better at using your  

creativity with the pieces you already have okay  and so often Learners think it's just oh I need  

more words and so that's one of the things I hear  from people about why they struggle to speak they  

say well maybe I just need to learn more words  okay so maybe I maybe I don't know enough you know  

but the truth is a a young child can still speak  very well even with a much smaller vocabulary so  

don't worry about learning more words just  understand uh different ways of using the  

vocabulary you already have so get to know that  vocabulary better just like you know your native  

vocabulary really well all right so you might  not have a a really large native vocabulary for  

for your own language maybe you do you might not  be even like a a fantastic public speaker in your  

native language either but you're usually able to  understand things and then use the same language  

but in different ways to express different things  all right so I just wanted to give this a very  

quick review because most people need more review  than actually learning new information because the  

new information is like trying to learn more  words when you're not get fluent in the words  

you already know all right so let me go back uh  answer any questions that people have about this  

but the basic idea is that the preparation for  having a confident and fluent conversation it  

really comes from how you learn the language and  not from you trying to uh like learn more words or  

even trying to practice speaking with other people  so I don't need to get like more Lego bricks or or  

get like other people around around me to do that  uh although like if I am doing that there might  

be more creativity from other people that show  me different ways to use the bricks I already  

have okay so even when I'm with other people it's  still the other ideas I'm getting from them not me  

showing them or saying things and repeating things  that I already know all right so don't worry about  

trying to get a lot of new things spend more time  getting very familiar with the vocabulary you  

already know all right hopefully that makes sense  I can explain more if people would like to learn  

more but let me go back and check chat make sure  people are getting what I'm saying over here all

my channel uh because I I think I've covered that  before uh we also cover these things in fluent for  

Life uh chill says I need this 36 year olds and  still learning yes the learning process really  

never ends but what's happening is that you become  fluent in parts of the language and then you learn  

more and you become fluent in those parts of the  language so you don't become fluent in the whole  

language there's still plenty of things plenty  of words or topics that I can't speak about even  

in English because I don't know that vocabulary  like I can't I can't even talk about fixing a  

car because I just don't know the vocabulary for  fixing a car I don't know the different parts or  

pieces or things like that I could probably learn  that pretty quickly but I wouldn't be able to talk  

about that stuff so you become fluent and that  that just means you're able to to communicate  

without hesitating or translating and part of that  is is not you focusing on one word but you have  

a general idea want to express and you recognize  that there are different ways you could say that  

so if I can't think of one or I'm in the middle  of speaking and I maybe think of like a rephrase I  

could say something differently so to rephrase or  say something differently those are two different  

ways of expressing that of changing my thought  or changing my words so there are more ways of  

expressing that so I might change what I want to  say even while I'm speaking and that's what you  

when you when you see me continuing to speak like  that that's what fluency is so it's not because  

I'm I I have a really large vocabulary I just know  it very well and I'm able to use that vocabulary  

very well uh let's see H Rayes good morning I'm  good morning Oswaldo says Hey teach you a good  

teacher well thank you very much because of your  lessons I improve my English skills thank you so  

much I hope to continue teach us this way thanks  a lot uh I'm from Angola it's in Africa yes I  

know where Angola is very nice and Martin says uh  excellente teer thanks for your help hey teacher  

nice to see you there Tom I do like Lego yeah Lego  is fun you know and and even uh like when when I  

when I was having two girls I was thinking oh I  wonder if you know I will get Lego or whatever  

and I got some just to see if they liked it and  and they did so there we go and they continue to  

build stuff and you know it's even they make  little cars and things like that uh let's see  

at says Hey again teacher is it possible to become  an English fluent speaker by reading and listening  

every day uh the point is not really just reading  and listening it's how quickly can you understand  

something so how quickly can you remove the  doubt from from your level of understanding  

so in my like looking back at that example  of uh of Superman so let me erase this here

so I don't remember the exact dates when these  things happen but the point is there's a time  

period in between them but let me just give you  an example of how this works so uh when I was very  

young I don't know maybe like a few years old like  four five years old let's just say I was 5 years  

old uh and I heard Superman so I knew who that  was uh like uh Superman is a is a character like  

a hero you know you probably you probably you know  who Superman is everybody knows Superman he's like  

you know the probably the most famous got a little  s on his shirt like that and I'm not going to draw  

this very well and he has a cape you know you know  Superman anyway so I knew who this was and I knew  

the name Superman but I didn't really think much  about super you know I hear people just say like  

something is super or great or whatever but he  has a little curl too I think anyway uh so I heard  

that I'm 5 years old and I know the name Superman  but maybe I don't remember exactly when I went to  

this this this play or opera or whatever but let's  say I was 10 years old when my mother taught me

supertitles supertitles now there's a span of 5  years I'm guessing like around then maybe these  

aren't these dates aren't exact but it doesn't  matter so between this time let's just say it's 5  

years now you could think like it took me 5 years  to really understand what super meant all right  

but it's not that it took me five years it's just  the examples I got were 5 years apart okay so had  

I received the examples one right after the other  then I would have understood understood it much  

faster and then I would have gotten fluent in that  much much like much faster so to become fluent in  

something means you've eliminated the doubt about  that thing you feel no doubt about understanding  

you feel no doubt about using it and so when  you're trying to learn the goal is not like  

should I listen or should I read or should I watch  or whatever the the the technique is it's not  

about any one of these things the point is this  how quickly can I destroy the doubt how quickly  

can I understand something so I think I made a a  video about this specifically like I took a piece  

piece of paper and showed you it's like folding  time so if I could take these two moments where  

I I understood something so this character is  called Superman I didn't really think much about  

what super meant and then I learned oh super so  super actually means above or Beyond or better  

or whatever something like that and so if I had  learned those at the same time or one immediately  

after the other then I would have become  fluent like that all right so it's a couple of  

different examples that you get but whatever  you need to eliminate the doubt so you could  

get that from listening or from watching something  or reading something or whatever but the point is  

to eliminate the doubt as fast as you can okay  so uh yes you can get fluent from listening or  

reading or whatever but uh if if these things  are not helping you destroy any doubt so if I  

read a bunch of textbooks they're probably going  to make me more confused or give me more doubt  

I might have more questions and if I have  questions then that's when I will struggle  

to speak so if I don't really know the vocabulary  well then I'm probably not going to use it very  

well in a conversation okay so there's no real  surprise here but I want people to focus on the  

doubt destruction that's that's really the best  insight for understanding language learning rather  

than any particular technique all right uh so  that's a good question it's also a very common  

question so hopefully people will enjoy the answer  to that all right uh let's see and wisely said my

thought I thought everybody had to do that maybe  for for some kind of science class ilder is  

talking about um take I I talked about this in my  previous video about helping my daughter learn to  

swim underwater without holding her nose and so  she was uh having trouble wanting to she wanted  

to swim but she just didn't believe me that it was  possible she thought if I if I don't hold my nose  

water will come up into my nose and so I took a  cup and and turned it upside down and put it in  

the water and showed her look the air is still  up in here and the water cannot get in because  

it's pushing on the air all right so that's inside  your nose the same idea anyway so that's what he's  

talking about but yeah yeah think that's like it's  like kind of a little kid science experiment or  

whatever uh Jan says a four oh my goodness Kuran  4 in the morning two oh oh my goodness let's say  

explore the nature hi I'm sabong from let's see  uh Afghanistan and it's five in R everyone's  

telling me the time all right and aned says  hello from Wisconsin I'm late but happy to see  

you nice to see you there uh and Marissa there  as well from what is that is that the Italian  

flag got the everyone has these like tiny tiny  Flags over there my maybe my vision is getting  

worse and SOA they representing the DAP that is  the Japanese the new Japanese flag the DAP flag  

I think actually this is an interesting Japanese  culture thing just happen where I'm uh where I am  

today we're having a soen nagashi here it's like  a s nagashi party I don't know if I will uh have  

time to go to it uh but this is where where people  take this interesting bit of Japanese culture for  

people you uh you take bamboo so regular bamboo  grows in these long stocks and inside the bamboo  

there are sections so you you could take a  piece of this you could cut the bottom and  

you can actually have a cup cuz the inside of  the bamboo is hollow all right it's Hollow oops  

h o l l o w Hollow so it's Hollow uh inside the  bamboo and so you can have a little cup so lots  

of people make bamboo things out of bamboo it's  very strong grows very quickly when it starts  

growing uh anyway so people make these slides  out of bamboo so they they cut the bamboo in half  

and they break the little part in the middle  here and they smooth it out and then they

have these long slides where people put uh noodles  in them so you drop some noodles on that and it  

slides down slides down and then people try to  grab it with their Chopsticks and then you can  

have a little fun noodle party uh this is often  done in summertime and another thing kind of  

similar to this is people will go to a restaurant  and and you get the noodles and the noodles are  

kind of floating around in a little pool on your  table so I always thought this was very cool it's  

kind of like a little fishing game where you  get to reach in and try to grab some noodles  

and you have some dipping sauce and enjoy those  anyway so this is happening today uh where I am  

uh so right now it's uh like the obone season  uh in Japan near kind of the middle of summer  

like this or maybe I don't know if it's kind  it's it's basically the middle of summer um  

uh for little kids and people getting some time  off of work so people go back and visit their  

families things like that so that's what I'll be  doing all right uh let's see Marissa says from  

Mexico fatty from Egypt and nman says hello first  of all thank you uh let's see thank you you will  

make my English learning fear go away I think I  can learn it too glad to hear and I'm says Egypt  

loves you wow well it's you know I've never been  to Egypt sounds like a cool place though and I'm  

say okay teacher I got also how can I destroy  the doubt that stops me from speaking could I  

force myself to speak without having a particular  English partner or not all right uh so number one  

you don't need to speak at all to to destroy any  doubt you have about speaking and this is this is  

I call this like the strangest English fluency  secret uh because it's so unbelievable and most  

people are like well of course you have to speak  right I mean that's the whole goal like you speak  

to develop fluency but what I discovered is that  actually fluency develops as you understand the  

language better so you destroy the doubt by simply  understanding things like I gave you the example  

before so when I first heard a word like Superman  then I just heard the word I knew Superman was  

this person but I didn't think really at all about  what the word super meant so that part of the word  

and when I was thinking about that it made it  made sense oh look I can actually understand  

something when I got another example of the word  so the first time I hear Superman I don't I don't  

really think much about the vocabulary I  just think Superman means this person all  

right the the superhero the character but as I  hear more examples of other things like super

Supernatural so I know what natural means and  then we hear something like Supernatural and  

that means oh like even kind of interesting or  better or at a higher level something we don't  

quite understand like I don't know ghosts  or something like that so there's a natural  

thing and then there's a supernatural thing all  right so it's at a higher level above that and  

this is another example where you're hearing  different ways of using the word and those  

help you understand that uh help you understand  that word better which eliminates the doubt all  

right so it's understanding something better that  eliminates the doubt not speaking so right now if  

you are learning from this video if you feel  oh like I understand something better uh even  

though you're not speaking you are developing  fluency right now so as doubt goes down fluency  

and confidence go up all right it's like they  they work uh the opposite way from each other  

all right so if we remove the doubt then all we  have left is fluency and and confidence all right  

all right I held that one in that's a good one  if you don't know this expression already to hold

something to hold something in so I need  to sneeze but I don't oh no it's coming

back see I held it in so if you hold something in  you can see this is I'm kind of like physically  

holding it look at my I think my face is a little  bit red now uh but I'm holding something in and  

you can also think about like holding in emotions  in the same way so I'm holding in my anger all  

right so instead of like expressing something  someone does something to me I could I could  

get very uh I could get very angry or whatever  but I'm holding it in okay I'm I'm keeping it  

keeping it back yes bless you thank you you all  it's interesting so in Japan people don't say  

bless you it's not like nobody cares if you sneeze  nobody says anything so I'm always surprised now  

when when I hear that people like oh bless you  I'm like oh yeah I remember now like people say  

you know bless you anyway so you see these are  different examples I can if I say uh like some  

vocabulary for the situation of not sneezing so I  want to sneeze but I don't just it sneeze all over  

everything uh I'm giving you a way of expressing  that which is to to hold something in so I'm  

holding the sneeze in or I'm controlling myself  and in the same way I can take that and apply it  

to another situation that's similar like holding  in my emotions okay hopefully that makes sense  

so as you get more examples of something that's  what makes you feel better that you understand  

the vocabulary and that allows you to use it very  well okay so hopefully that makes sense and so  

when you're when you're learning new vocabulary  the point is not to uh try to try to speak so I  

I don't learn like hold something in and and  then just start using it I could but if if if  

I do that I'm not really learning anything more  and I might still have a doubt about when I could  

use it so I might use it like I know I know now  I can say hold something in uh for when I have to  

sneeze but maybe I hear later that I can also hold  something in like I'm holding in my emotions I'm  

not releasing my emotions like I'm not releasing  uh a sneeze but hopefully that makes sense all  

right let me check make sure my uh I'm going to  like blow my nose okay there we go yes we hold in  

in the bless you yes we can say we we can we can  hold in or held in held whoops Marg is getting

weak to held in all right this is the past  tense just like hold like I was physically  

holding something now I am not so I held something  in all right so don't feel like you need to have  

someone there to practice with you what you  really need to do is answer any questions you  

have that are causing you doubt so if you don't  know how to pronounce something like let's say  

uh I get a question like ran versus uh like  rain so rain this is not a word over here but  

I could I could take this and and just as a  practice for how to pronounce something like  

this uh because I could have a word like crane  which does have this this part of the word in  

it so if I'm unsure about how to pronounce these  then I probably won't say these words but if I do  

compare them oh look this is a n and this is a  n and this is a silent E so we don't say the E  

here all right so you can call this a silent  e or magic e uh but if you compare these two  

different sounds then you feel better about  pronunciation and then you speak all right so  

if you don't feel good or you think you will  mispronounce a word you probably won't say it  

all right so this is an example of eliminating  doubt with pronunciation but you do the same thing  

eliminating doubt with uh vocabulary or grammar  or whatever the the particular thing is all right  

so we don't we don't want to try to speak to  do that you could but it's not really going  

to eliminate the doubt because it's not helping  you understand the language better all right uh  

ta says hello from Taiwan ice see you there and  explod nature could you explain what wild rice is  

actually I'm not I'm not an authority on rice so  I don't know I'm guessing wild rice is I've I've  

heard that wild rice is just like I don't know  it's like a mix of different things but I don't  

know I couldn't answer that question because I  don't know I think I've eaten wild rice before  

but it's not I don't think it's what I think it is  if that makes sense because I I don't maybe I was  

talking with somebody about wild rice recently I  remember that word but I don't remember we didn't  

have a conclusion about what it meant so Google  that but I'm sure it would be easy to find MC  

nice to see you there oh my God just opened  my eyes in the middle of the night over here  

and I'm going back to sleep a little more but  it's so frustrating oh no yes don't don't put  

your uh open up the screen in the middle of the  night natural world says hi my dear teacher and

and mimicking you would say are shadowing and  mimicking important um they could be but it's  

I don't I don't spend my time doing much of that  it's more like what you're what you're trying to  

do instead of like shadowing a particular person  if you get many examples of of different so this  

is me here uh and as I learn Japanese I'm getting  lots of different examples from many different  

native speakers so somebody could be alive person  speaking with me like in the same room or I could  

hear uh like a YouTube video or a TV show or  a movie or I'm listening to some other people  

in a cafe talking something like that and so as I  hear those different examples my pronunciation and  

listening are improving automatically and I could  try to repeat after what they say but I'm not like  

for me personally I'm not really trying to get  my voice sounding exactly like any one of these  

people it's more uh what does my voice sound like  in Japanese and my voice becomes like the physical  

the physical way my voice is created along with  all these different examples of people so uh  

shadowing and mimicking are are perfectly fine to  do and you can try copying different people but  

the diversity is more important than uh than just  trying to copy only one person especially if it's  

trying to copy uh like one teacher when you might  not that that teacher was probably not speaking  

the way normal people speak in conversations  all right hopefully that makes sense let's see  

here keep the party going and wait where did I  what did I get okay everybody saying God bless  

you over here uh Joan says I think focusing  on communication is better than focusing on  

Perfection um yes like I'm I'm certainly not  recommending people try to be perfect but uh  

in general people who have doubt will not want to  speak about whatever that is so if I if I don't  

think I'll use a word correctly then I won't say  it and this is the same for native speakers as  

well so if native speakers they maybe they know  a word but they don't really feel confident about  

what it means then they're probably not going  to use it in their conversations they might  

understand when other people say it but they they  won't themselves feel confident about using it  

all right so this doubt this is a a problem  just for people in general it's not only for  

non-natives learning a language anybody can have  a problem with this maybe there are words in your  

native language that you have heard but you're not  perfectly clear about what they mean so in general  

um people could you could go out and and just try  to speak and maybe uh you're not you're not like  

speaking correctly and you don't care about that  that's fine uh that's more of like the one way to  

say this this is kind of a like a young a Young  Guy's way of saying this is like spray spray and  

pray and this will be an interesting expression  for you all to learn today to spray and pray now  

this comes from uh from shooting and so if you  think about like people when they're holding  

uh an automatic weapon so like a gun that can  fire many bullets like a machine gun uh if you  

hold the ma machine gun down and you just you  pull the trigger it it could it's it's going to  

like shoot all over the place because you're not  really controlling where the bullet is going to  

spray and prey so you spray like you're spraying  a lot of bullets just like you spray some paint  

so again this is that that same idea where we can  learn the application of something to spray just  

like I have a like a spray paint so here's like a  little uh can of spray paint here oh my goodness  

that's a horrible can of spray paint uh but you  spray something out and it usually comes out in  

kind of a wave like that so if I have some spray  paint I could have a spray of bullets in the same  

way and so you spray you spray all these bullets  and then you pray that one of these bullets hits  

the target okay now obviously the other way to do  this is to to take a shot and even if you have a  

machine gun you aim it well you take one shot and  hit where you're going okay so this is the the  

the people who know how to speak well are doing  this this and the people who do not know how to  

speak well they have lots of grammar errors and a  lack of confidence and that's because they've got  

lots of doubt about what they're saying so they  could maybe they don't care so they could speak  

and maybe they don't care about it but most people  would rather speak correctly if they can and I'm  

saying that it's actually very easy to learn how  to do this it's just instead of spending your time  

looking for people to practice with the practice  really comes as you get lots of examples of the  

language to help you understand the language  and eliminate the doubt that's really the point  

all right so if you if you want to spray and prey  you can spray and prey like that but if you want  

to communicate well especially if you need that  for professional use and you should be speaking  

correctly if you are uh then I would recommend  doing that so remember you don't need to wait  

for people to uh to come practice with you or  whatever the point is really that you're just  

spending more time uh understanding the language  getting more examples and answering the questions  

that that cause you doubt all right let's see  and fed again okay you guys are speaking with  

each other uh I want natural I want to ask you  about how I can be good in sentences a sentence  

order I think I've made videos about this as well  uh but another way that you're doing this that's  

another question about doubt that you have and  so as you get more examples of sentences and you  

will feel more confident that you understand how  sentences should be ordered all right and so you  

have particular patterns uh in the language about  like I'm answering a question or I'm asking a  

question or uh you know whatever but you're the  point is that if you're getting many examples  

of these things that's what's going to help you  feel much more confident and eliminate the doubt  

about things so in sentence order let's say a  very simple uh thing like uh like subject verb  

uh object or whatever so like I like uh I like  uh I like red so I like red so very very like you  

know very simple kind of sentence here I would  make a bunch of these like even if you're just  

talking by yourself or getting more examples  like I like this or she does that or he plays  

this until you really feel confident that you know  this basic sentence here is something you can do  

easily and then you start adding to that and then  make like I like uh I don't know like deep red so  

something that's really like a really deep bright  red color so this is a pretty a pretty deep deep  

red here pretty pretty dark pretty deep red so you  might have different kinds of red and you can talk  

about that as you as you expand your the kind  of uh the kind of patterns that you know in the  

kind of patterns you feel comfortable using  all right so we always start with something  

simple make sure you can say that so even in these  comments here I'm seeing some basic errors where  

people are moving on to more difficult things  before they really have mastered the basics all  

right so I know people don't want to take the time  doing that but you just have to choose do you want  

to spray and pray or do you want to communicate  correctly and impress people with your speech and  

and say what you want to say that kind of thing  all right so it's not difficult to do that but  

you should just spend more time getting examples  about that so uh another thing to think about for  

this is being specific about what your problem is  so if you can save this sentence so this kind of  

sentence uh then you would feel okay all right  I I know how to say that so really my question  

is some more difficult sentence structure and  then in that case you should just get a lot  

of examples of that all right so think about  what specifically your issue is and then you  

can you should get lots of examples of that uh  let's see all right it makes sense uh hold in

says ABD says hello I am an Arab and I do not  have basic knowledge of the English language how  

can I speak it wait uh and it and I do not  have basic knowledge of the Well from your  

writing you sound fine like it's it's that's  great I don't know what what what what the uh  

what what your question is exactly uh Ean says  wow thank you okay you guys still speaking to  

each other let's see Miguel says hold something  or hold or hold or hold something yeah well I'm  

saying hold something in like hold something  inside something else all right so I can hold  

something just like I'm holding a marker all  right but to hold something in this is a phrasal  

verb that means you're you're kind of holding  something uh and removing it or preventing it  

from from escaping to hold something in like I  could hold a bird in a cage or I could hold my  

emotions in my body I'm I'm I'm using Force to  keep that thing uh love Chinese combo fried rice

your listening skill uh don't only listen to me  listen to lots of different people and especially  

more natives all right so pick a few maybe if  you like some different people who actually  

teach the language that's great but spend more  time listening to Native speech Alejandra says

there a difference between these Expressions  no uh there is actually if you watch like a a  

mafia movie like a like an Italian gangster movie  they'll they'll talk about that the movie Donnie  

Brasco says well he's my friend but if I say he's  a friend of ours like if if if I say he's a friend  

of mine he's just like my personal friend but if  he's a friend ours it means he's like connected  

in the mafia all right so so it actually could  mean something different uh depending on the  

situation but when I'm using it that way there's  no difference like my friend or a friend of mine  

all right uh let's see natural one again thanks  my gu I want to ask about how I can order my words  

when I create sentences during a conversation  please so that again like think about specific  

sentence patterns and focus on those Richard says  good morning to you teacher the best thing is  

that our vocabulary must be bigger and we should  memorize it every two weeks if I do this I won't  

have any doubts I can uh articulate it precisely  uh I don't learn that way but if that's working  

for you then continue doing it so I I don't teach  that way either I don't necessarily recommend that  

uh and I and I certainly don't say you need to  have a bigger vocabulary I'm generally using the  

same vocabulary again and again but I just use  it in different ways and I know how to use it  

very well so a fluent speaker is not not only  trying to learn learn more but it's much more  

important to know that vocabulary very well so if  you think about like like pitchers in baseball so  

a baseball pitcher might have like three or five  good pitches like a kind of pitch they can throw  

like a fast ball or a curveball or a knuckle ball  or something like that uh but they don't know they  

don't continue to learn more and more pitches they  really want to make sure they are very good at the  

pitches they know how to throw because it doesn't  help you to have a pitch that you can't throw well  

all right so in the same way with vocabulary just  knowing more words isn't going to help you if you  

don't have complete Mastery over those words all  right now remember this is not about being perfect  

it's just about eliminating the doubt all right  so you you still might not express something I  

don't know perfectly I'm not worried about that  like even these videos that I make could they be  

better I'm sure they could I'm I'm sure there are  many ways to make these things much better so I'm  

not trying to make a perfect video but I am trying  to help people eliminate doubt and that's where we  

actually unlock fluency all right so uh if you're  if you have a a particular way of learning that's  

helpful for you then continue doing it but I like  for me personally and for the people I help that's  

generally not been the case that like uh they  need to learn as much as possible and I I don't  

tell them to do that uh but most people think  they need to learn as many words as possible  

even though they're they're typically learning  more but not becoming better speakers all right  

so you just have to think about what your focus  is you says I'm you and I've been practicing how  

to speak in English so I joined a Discord server  and at first I said hi where are you from and that  

and so on after one year I got Improvement and I  can't develop future more cuz lack of vocabulary  

even though I have learned vocab from school movie  series I know they're meaning but I haven't used  

so how how can I improve from here uh you should  watch my video about the the three levels of of  

understanding or the three levels of fluency  so as you're learning vocabulary You Begin by  

getting exposure so this just means you're hearing  something even if you don't understand it well and  

then the next level up from that is awareness  where you recognize the vocabulary and that's  

probably where you are and the highest level is  what I call ownership where you really have no  

doubt about the vocabulary so to move from one  level to the next you have to destroy any doubt  

that you have about that vocabulary and so even as  you're continuing to learn more words then you're  

probably not actually removing all of the doubt  that you have about those so it could be doubt  

about the pronunciation or the usage or changing  tenses or something like that but uh in general  

a native speaker knows how to use the vocabulary  really well because they just don't have any doubt  

about using it and anybody could become a native  speaker and use the vocabulary very well you don't  

have to be born a native because nobody is born  a native you just start learning the same way a  

native does and it just means you're connecting  directly with the language so in order to to  

get from from where you are to the the fluent  level to use that vocabulary you have you need  

to eliminate the doubt about that vocabulary all  right so that's what we do on this channel that's  

what we do in fluent for life we really help you  understand the vocabulary very well so you can  

use it so Tom says dark red and deep red the same  yeah it's basically the say and I like some people  

might argue about that like if there's a specific  color name or something like that but in general  

people would say oh that's a very like dark  red versus a deep red and I don't think people  

would really argue about that uh Joan says do you  think listening to audio books while reading them  

is a good way to get fluency uh if if it helps  you understand better yeah reading audio as I  

mentioned before uh it's not about a specific  technique you're doing the point is how quick  

can you eliminate the doubt if you're learning  something and you don't understand it then it's  

not helping you speak because it doesn't help  you understand so if I learn something and I'm  

I'm thinking I don't really understand what that  means then of course I won't be able to use it in  

a conversation I might say it anyway but I won't  feel very confident and I might be nervous about  

uh like this happened to me uh I don't know I'm  sure it's happened to me many times but uh I  

remember talking to a parent when I was many  years ago teacher in a classroom and I think  

I said like I was like hide yourself like like  hide because like your your child is coming and  

she had been crying during the day and we calmed  her down so these when I was teaching very little  

kids who were uh being away from their parents  you know they they start crying when they get  

into school because they're away from Mom or Dad  or whatever um and so I was uh I was telling her  

like oh please hide but I thought I had used it  incorrectly after I said it and and like another  

time I I thought like I was like oh no like uh  I said I thought I said like your child is not  

smart but I I had not said that but I in in the  moment I was like oh no I thought I I thought I  

said the wrong thing because I had doubt about  it I actually had used it correctly uh but those  

are the kinds of things that happen when you  have doubt so either you will you will speak  

uh well because you eliminate the doubt or you  will have worries either during the conversation  

or after the conversation like ah did I say the  wrong thing oh no like now now I'm worried about  

that and people will think ah I should have said  this or other things like that so people will  

continue worrying even after the conversation is  finished so if you don't want to deal with that  

just eliminate the doubt spend more time learning  so you eliminate the doubt about conversations  

or vocabulary whatever and then you can enjoy  conversations that's the whole point all right  

Le says what uh would be very hard understand  somebody talking in a spray and prey method and  

yeah so it like that obviously that applies in the  same way so if someone else is just kind of saying  

words and I I understand maybe the general meaning  they're saying but their vocabulary or grammar is  

just really bad then yes it's more difficult I'm  I'm very good at understanding now because I get  

lots of examples of of people speaking in ways  that that just aren't obviously aren't correct  

like as I read these comments some of them I have  to process it a little bit because they're saying  

things that are uh like there will be some  Advanced vocabulary but also some basic  

grammar errors and so I'm trying to think okay  what is this person really mean and then usually  

I ask people if I don't if I don't understand so  Alberto says how can I improve my English go back  

and watch this video again uh akan says so what  do you do when you forget a world while speaking  

English yes so as I explained earlier the point  is when you're in a conversation there are usually  

other ways that you already know where you can say  something so if I'm in a conv ation and I forget a  

word I can think like okay I don't remember that  word but instead of panicking and just freezing  

and not saying anything I can usually Express that  in a different way and the reason I'm able to do  

that is because of how I learned vocabulary so  we take usually some kind of situation as we're  

learning we're getting lots of different examples  of that and uh that's what prepares me in a  

conversation to be able to respond so you probably  know those things already but most people usually  

are they're they're they're committed to one  way of saying something usually because they're  

learning through translations but if you take  a moment like if you give me any kind of phrase  

here I will give you a different way to say  that I could give you 10 different ways to  

say most things and so that's another thing you  practice as you get these different examples so  

you hear oh like a person could order food and  there are lots of different ways I could order  

that all right so if I go let's say I'm at a bar  and I I want want to I don't know order a beer or  

something I I could say like may I have a beer  or could I get a beer or I'd like a beer or one  

beer please okay so those are four different  ways of saying the same thing and that's all  

with basic vocabulary that most people know so  instead of going from a textbook where it tells  

you one way to say something you think about the  situation and even if it's not perfect you can  

still usually Express something uh in a like in  in very very way like various ways or whatever  

all right so uh part of the part of the ability to  to not get stuck is remembering that you already  

have different ways of saying things okay so you  already know them and instead of getting stuck or  

getting panicked then you think wait a minute like  what am I really trying to say I just want a beer  

so I could just say one beer very simple I go to  the I go to a counter my English is not very good  

oh one beer then I remember oh please or one beer  thank you you know I I could express that even if  

I'm not saying it perfectly but the point is I'm  not getting stuck all right so I call this moving  

like water where you're able to just continue  speaking and that's that's what's going to stop  

you from getting stuck all right so part of it  is in the conversation where you uh remembering  

that there are that there always are going to be  different ways to express something all right so  

there's never just one uh and you really want to  think okay if there if there are more than one  

so if I have many ways of saying something then  huh I bet I could probably think even something  

basic just to continue speaking all right  so it's possible to do that but it becomes  

much easier if you learn the right way by getting  lots of examples of different native speaking all

right and let's see R2 says hi and and K hello  from Japan Robson says in your opinion what's  

the difference between confidence and fluent  well like fluent fluent is the ability to do  

something without without thinking about  it and confident just means it's it's like  

how you feel about something so your you could  you could actually you could take a confident  

person but they they're not necessarily  fluid like like I like I could meet people  

who speak really badly they're not speaking  fluently at all but they still feel confident  

you know some people just have maybe a natural  confidence like that and they don't care about  

making mistakes so they they are two different  things and and the point is generally if you  

understand something well you are developing  fluency and you should feel more confident  

at the same time but that's why I talk about  confidence and fluency uh a as they're they're  

connected but it's still two different things  okay so you could have one without the other  

and I mean even still you could have someone  who is actually very fluent but they still  

feel nervous for whatever reason that even could  be a psychological thing that has nothing to do  

with the language so you could have one without  the other natural high teacher when is your live  

time please tell me to follow uh these aren't at  specific uh schedule times and and sometimes they  

might not be available but typically Mondays and  Thursdays Japan time in the morning uh Shan good  

morning Drew I'm wondering about the meaning and  form of words do thanks for explaining and thanks  

for the explanation mean the same thing yep  those are both fine uh and again try to think  

about vocabulary for particular situations so you  might have like thanks for coming or thank you  

for coming I could say both of those and and they  would both mean the same thing in that situation  

and so that's why it's important when we think  about rules we connect vocabulary with situations  

but we also remember maybe the vocabulary might  mean something different in a different situation  

okay so I learned that bark the word bark means  the skin of a tree bark but then I also remember  

bark is also the sound a dog makes so if somebody  asks me what does bark mean I say well it depends  

on the situation because it could mean one thing  in this situation and it could mean uh something  

else in a different situation all right so in  whenever you here and this is another good reason  

to get lots of examples of different natives  in the same situation so just for an example  

this you can watch my espresso video so I made a  video about uh different natives making espresso  

and so you can hear how different people Express  those same things going through those same steps  

but they all say it a little bit differently and  so it's just giving you more proof that there's  

many ways or there are many ways to express  something so that's a good question uh and if  

you do hear multiple people saying different  things then then it's it's fine to say both  

of those and you think oh okay I could say this  or I could say this I could say this other thing  

uh let's see oops I believe the correct sense is  thanks for explaining something well you can just  

say thanks for explaining or thanks for thanks  for the explanation so if I say something if I  

explain something you can say oh thanks or thanks  for explaining that or thanks for the explanation  

or thanks for explaining you know whatever you  could be more specific thanks for explaining  

that grammar point to me all right so again there  are different ways of expressing things we could  

get more detailed or less specific so less  detailed but the the the point here is about  

fluency and continuing to speak without getting  stuck all right so as you get more examples you  

get good practice with hearing different ways  that natives would Express themselves in the same  

situation all right so just like those examples  good question uh wi Wizzle is that wizzly or

the doubt that's what it means when you're talking  about how quickly can you get fluent in something  

and so if you listen to many good examples  and you hear them one after the other then  

you understand something quickly and you become  fluent in that thing very quickly all right so  

you you might maybe need to hear it a few times  to remember it more but some people like they  

just get a good example that helps them understand  something very quickly and then they are fluent in  

that and they never forget it all right so for  a particular word it could be one minute or less  

all right you can understand something very  quickly like if I have uh these two markers  

over here and I'm going to compare them so one  of these this is fall down the phrasal verb fall  

down so you see how it's moving straight down like  that and this one is fall over fall over fall over  

so just seeing these different examples you think  oh okay I get it like when you fall down you're  

moving straight down and fall over is going to the  side like that okay all right right let's see and

a new word yes so new word that's that's the same  thing so you want to get many examples or continue  

getting examples of something until you have  no doubt about the understanding all right Joan

lot of time to get fluent just like I I gave that  example about learning the word super so there was  

maybe five years in between when I first heard  the word and when I really understood the word  

but it could have been much faster all right so a  good teacher knows how to give you those examples  

quickly and knows how to make the language  understandable quickly so you get flu faster  

so it's not about how much time do you need it's  how quickly can you get the examples all right all

it's just something unfortunate that happens to  me agin says I always hear people speaks of the  

benefit of the doubt explain that phrase so  to give someone the benefit of the doubt it  

means like when when someone might have or they're  trying to explain something like my daughter says  

I don't know what's a good example like I just  saw an alien uh outside the house so if she says  

something like that I I probably won't believe  her but like maybe I'll give her the benefit of  

the doubt so I'll I'll kind of like even though  I I have doubt but I'm I'm just saying okay well  

we'll we'll try listening to her for a little bit  or we'll examine this and see what happens that's  

to give someone the benefit of the doubt so again  like rather than thinking about the vocabulary  

think about when people use these things all  right so if someone says something to me and I  

don't really believe them but I'm not just I'm not  like rejecting it immediately I'll say Okay U I'll  

give you the benefit of the doubt where maybe  like I kind of doubt something but I will let  

you continue explaining it all right the benefit  of the doubt and get more examples of that like  

don't just hear me explain it find more examples  of some like people are you know getting the  

benefit of the doubt of something like if you use  uh ug.com you can say like benefit of the doubt  

if you search for that you can find other people  using that and then pay attention to the situation  

when people are using that so you can connect  the situation with the vocabulary uh laa de afo

escar escara if I'm pronouncing that correctly  probably not you should write a book about  

overcoming fear in general uh yeah I guess  I don't know I'm sure like other people have  

have covered that uh but you you'll notice like  in in general like people do have a that's kind  

of the the Deep thing about people not taking  action for anything it doesn't matter if it's  

starting a business or trying to speak or asking  a girl on a date whatever it's the fear of of  

something not happening so people are people have  doubt there's a like there's without a guarantee  

that something will happen a lot of people are not  they're usually not willing to take some kind of  

action and do something so very few people would  do that in general all right so I encourage people  

to be more like that but also as a teacher I know  it's it's the thing I should be doing is trying to  

eliminate the doubt for you so if I can eliminate  your doubt then you will start speaking and you  

will think oh I didn't I didn't need to spend  years studying or spend years trying to speak  

I just need to eliminate the doubt as quickly  as possible and then I can use the language  

uh fluently and confidently but yes it's it's  generally the this these ideas about fear and  

uh things it's just yeah it's it's basically not  having a guarantee for something what is the best  

way to learn American English pronunciation  to reach the stage of confidence and fluency  

uh there are two things first thing is you  need to understand individual sounds like  

learning uh phonics and this is what we do in  Frederick as I mentioned click on the link in  

the description below this video to get that  app but that will help you learn pronunciation  

the same way native children learn it and then  the second thing is to get lots of good examples  

of different natives speaking and that's what  we do in fluent for life so you can try to do  

these things by yourself but we've just made it  very fast and easy uh with the app and the video  

program Edwin says my listening is so bad but  when I read it I can understand it what can I  

do to improve my listening uh you should get  more examples of native speakers saying the  

same thing all right so maybe you hear me like a  a native speaker saying something slowly and more  

clearly but then you hear other other natives  who are not trying to teach you the language  

they're just speaking normally and you're getting  stepbystep progress stepbystep kind of leveling up  

it will help you improve your listening and your  pronunciation again this is what we do in fluent  

for life life we really want to make sure you're  understanding things and then you're starting to  

level up your ability to to hear natives when  they're using these same things all right so  

that's how we do it so whether you do this  with me or not uh again that's how you would  

develop fluency and all your communication  skills Tom says I am enjoying enjoying a lot

company and a branch of a company uh typically  like uh it's more of a an organizational thing

and a a subsidiary might not necessarily have a  uh it might not even be in the same kind of same  

kind of industry so you could have like let's say  company a uh and they sell I don't know let's say  

it's like P like they sell pizza that's a pizza  restaurant now they might have branches and you  

can think about this like a branch of branches of  a tree where they've got like it's still company a  

a but they've got like another Branch this  location this location this location these  

are all a though but a subsidiary would be like  if company a owns Company B and Company B sells  

I don't know tacos kind of like that so it could  be like typically there's like you know some some  

name even the name subsidiary it's it's below that  so they could maybe they also sell pizza I don't  

know maybe whatever but it's it's typically like  this so so a branch is usually the same business  

just in a different location like you might have  branches of a uh of a bank or a franchise works in  

the same way it's still the same like McDonald's  you know or Burger King or whatever so you have a  

different a different location of the same service  or business but a subsidiary is is usually owned  

by that but it could be a completely different  business so like Pepsi uh so Pepsi the the company  

they have a lot of subsidiaries like they own  maybe Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken or  

something like that so they like they have  particular companies I think they do I don't  

actually don't remember what specific companies  they do but that's that's the difference here uh  

let's see and Russ say I live in Canada for two  years but I couldn't understand native speakers  

but I do now thanks glad you and Finn says what  uh does this expression mean bring something up  

up to code uh example bring the theater up to code  all right uh typically code means uh it's it's  

talking about the laws for a particular thing so  we need to make sure if you're if you're talking  

about a theater breaking breaking a code just  means breaking a law so there there are specific  

rules about let's say you have a staircase uh  maybe old laws we don't have uh nobody cared about  

having having a handrail on that like it didn't  matter if you had one but the Law changes and now  

you have to have a handrail on on your thing so uh  before like let's say you you build something and  

has no handrail but the code says so the law says  that you need one that you need to bring it up to  

code so you need to get it up to that level of the  law and we we talked about bringing it up to code  

because you could have something even better than  that maybe you put I don't know five handrails  

or something so this is way above code you don't  have to you're you're not breaking the code you're  

not breaking the law uh you're really making it so  it's very easy maybe you don't even have stairs or  

something I don't know you make like a a Teleport  machine so you just get in and yep there you go  

you're down at the bottom all right so that's  when we're talking about having uh code it's  

it's basically just logs and usually these are  things like for building so the building code or  

restaurant uh restaurant industry code that kind  of thing and it says how can I enhance my English  

pronunciation can I repeat English words after  English speakers like you yep you can do that so I  

just mentioned this a little bit ago about the two  things you need to do to improve your listening  

and pronunciation so get Frederick uh and either  get fluent for life or just start listening to  

lots of different natives talking about the same  thing that'll help you all right and we're ending

are the methods to speak English with an American  accent so that'd be the same thing the same thing  

that gives you a particular accent if you listen  to lots of American speakers you will naturally  

develop an American accent okay if you listen  to lots of American speakers you will naturally  

develop an American accent so if I start listening  to lots of British speakers I can start sounding  

more British as well same kind of thing all right  so the input you get will create the output you
