There are many ways of expressing action in English.

Hay muchas formas de expresar acción en inglés.

We can state a moment when something is happening, using different statements to express the thing that is making it happen.

Podemos indicar un momento en el que algo está sucediendo, usando diferentes declaraciones para expresar lo que hace que suceda.

The movement that can be seen, the moment it occurs, the way it is happening, and the reason it is occurring.

El movimiento que se puede ver, el momento en que ocurre, la forma en que ocurre y la razón por la que ocurre.

Put simply; we are stating

En pocas palabras; estamos indicando

who, what, when, how and why.

quién, qué, cuándo, cómo y por qué.

First we will look at ‘who’ In this statement we are stating the identity of the main thing involved.

Primero veremos "quién". En esta declaración estamos indicando la identidad de la cosa principal involucrada.

This can be one thing or many things.

Esto puede ser una cosa o muchas cosas.

One person or many people.

Una persona o muchas personas.

A single object or many objects.

Un solo objeto o muchos objetos.

In this example, we will look at ‘who’. A person is involved.

En este ejemplo, veremos "quién". Hay una persona involucrada.

The action involves a person.

La acción involucra a una persona.

Human actions without identity will always use ‘who’ or ‘whom’.

Las acciones humanas sin identidad siempre utilizarán 'quién' o 'quién'.

If the main thing involved is an object, then we will say ‘what’.

Si lo principal involucrado es un objeto, entonces diremos "qué".

‘Who did that?’ or ‘what did that?’

'¿Quién hizo eso?' o '¿qué hizo eso?'

“Who stole my bike?” “What made that noise?”

“¿Quién robó mi bicicleta?” “¿Qué hizo ese ruido?”

We will often use these in the form of a question, asking for the identity of a person or commenting on someone generally will also use ‘who’ as the subject.

A menudo los usaremos en forma de pregunta, preguntando por la identidad de una persona o comentando sobre alguien generalmente también usaremos "quién" como tema.

“Who is that?” “I don't know who they are.”

"¿Quién es ese?" "No sé quiénes son".

When relating an action or asking about the identity of the cause, we will say ‘who’ if it is a person and ‘what’ if it is anything else?

Al relatar una acción o preguntar sobre la identidad de la causa, diremos '¿quién' si es una persona y 'qué' si es cualquier otra cosa?

It is worth remembering that ‘what’ also relates to the actual occurrence.

Vale la pena recordar que "qué" también se relaciona con el hecho real.

As a question put forward... “what is going on?”

Como pregunta planteada… “¿qué está pasando?”

“What do you want me to do?”

“¿Qué quieres que haga?”

In this sense, we are stating ‘what’ as the occurrence itself,

En este sentido, estamos afirmando "qué" como el suceso mismo.

The thing done, the thing being done or the thing that will be done,

Lo hecho, lo que se está haciendo o lo que se hará,

all refer to ‘what’.

todos se refieren a "qué".

Next we have ‘when’.

A continuación tenemos "cuándo".

This relates to time. It is easy to state when something did happen, is happening or will happen.

Esto se relaciona con el tiempo. Es fácil indicar cuándo sucedió, está sucediendo o sucederá algo.

“I will see you when you get home.”

"Te veré cuando llegues a casa".

One thing might happen when something else occurs.

Puede suceder una cosa cuando ocurre otra.

“I will clean the car when the rain stops.”

"Limpiaré el coche cuando deje de llover".

When relates to the moment or the time when the thing occurs.

Cuando se refiere al momento o al tiempo en que ocurre la cosa.

As a question we will often use ‘when’ whilst asking about a planned event

Como pregunta, a menudo usaremos "cuándo" cuando preguntamos sobre un evento planeado

or when seeking information concerning the moment of an event taking place.

o cuando buscamos información sobre el momento en que se llevará a cabo un evento.

“When will the party start?”

"¿Cuándo comenzará la fiesta?"

“When did the robbery take place?”

“¿Cuándo tuvo lugar el robo?”

Next we will look at 'how',

A continuación veremos el 'cómo',

in this case, we are looking at the method or the way in which something will be done is being done or was done.

en este caso estamos viendo el método o la forma en la que se está haciendo o se hizo algo.

We often explain the method of something using how.

A menudo explicamos el método de algo usando cómo.

“This is how you tie a knot”.

“Así se hace un nudo”.

“This is how you make bread.”

“Así se hace el pan”.

As a question, you might ask how.

Como pregunta, podrías preguntar cómo.

When unsure of the method of doing something, “How do I turn on the computer?”

Cuando no está seguro del método para hacer algo, “¿Cómo enciendo la computadora?”

“How do I get to your house?”

“¿Cómo llego a tu casa?”

We might also use how, when trying to find out the way in which a person was able to do something.

También podríamos usar cómo, cuando intentamos descubrir la forma en que una persona pudo hacer algo.

As a shocked reaction, you might say, “How could you do that?”

Como reacción de sorpresa, podrías decir: "¿Cómo pudiste hacer eso?".

“How could you steal money from your own mother?”

“¿Cómo pudiste robarle dinero a tu propia madre?”

This is often said in shock and disbelief.

Esto se dice a menudo con sorpresa e incredulidad.

Finally, we have the small word with the big question.

Finalmente, tenemos la pequeña palabra con la gran pregunta.

The word is ‘why’. We often use ‘why’ as an interrogative statement when trying to find the reason for something occurring.

La palabra es "por qué". A menudo utilizamos el "por qué" como afirmación interrogativa cuando intentamos encontrar la razón por la que ocurre algo.

“Why did it happen?”

“¿Por qué sucedió?”

“Why did you steal my wallet?”

“¿Por qué robaste mi billetera?”

“Why did you lie to me?”

“¿Por qué me mentiste?”

We can ask for the reason and we can state the reason.

Podemos preguntar el motivo y podemos indicar el motivo.

“I love spending time with you, that is why I enjoy working here.”

"Me encanta pasar tiempo contigo, por eso disfruto trabajar aquí".

‘Why’ is always the reason.

El 'por qué' es siempre la razón.

Whether it is put forward as a question or stated as an explanation in the form of a reply.

Ya sea que se plantee como pregunta o se exprese como explicación en forma de respuesta.

Remember... ‘Who’ relates to identity.

Recuerde... 'Quién' se relaciona con la identidad.

‘What’ relates to the occurrence. ‘When’ relates to time.

'Qué' se relaciona con el suceso. 'Cuando' se relaciona con el tiempo.

‘How’ relates to the method.

'Cómo' se relaciona con el método.

‘Why’ relates to the reason.

El 'por qué' se relaciona con la razón.
