In fact, I can say that sometimes

the medicine or the treatment for something can be worse

than the thing that is causing you a problem in the first place.

I think so, so quite often that can be the case.

Sometimes the medicine

is worse

than the thing that you are trying to be treated for,

and the actual thing is not as bad as the medicine.

We often talk about side effects of medicine,

and the thing that I've been taking just something to clear up

the infection in my gum has made me feel rather strange.

And let's just say, unwell.

That's all I'm going to say. I'm not saying anything else.

So I've managed to to crawl out of my sick bed

and come here to do a live stream.

How long will it be for?

I don't know how long I'll be here, but we will see what happens.

It is

as much of a surprise to me

as it is to you that I'm standing here right now, because I wasn't expecting to be here today,

but I thought I should at least show my face just to let you know I'm still alive.

And also to let you know that everything here in England is not quite as bad

as you may have seen

on the news, because it turns out now that some countries are warning people,

telling people not to come to England,

they're telling people, you can't, you can't go there.

It's too dangerous.

Can I just say, if you come to Much Wenlock

or most of England, to be honest, you will find everything is okay.

You might say that I am one of these. An English addict.

And today I thought we would have a look at some words that are often used to describe actions.

Certain actions quite often using the hands.

There has been

some use of the hands

across England over the past few days,

some of it quite negative, to be honest with you.

In a strange way, at the end of most of your videos on YouTube,

a person is staring like this.

Because if you look at someone, maybe you look at a person for a very long time.

I often use my eyes.

You might not realise this, but the eyes are the window to your soul.

When you look in someone's eyes, you can quite often tell

or maybe you understand what type of person they are.

So sometimes I find my eyes

can be used in

a very expressionist way, and it's a bit of fun as well.

In fact, I don't think people use their eyes enough

when they express themselves.

We use our hands and our mouth

and the rest of our face, but we don't use our eyes very often.

Maybe if you are attracted to someone,

you might look at, look at them with your your eyes.

we are looking at some words, some interesting words in English.

The English language is why we are here, because we are all English addicts.

So today I thought we would briefly have a look at some words

and phrases connected to a group of words

which can be related

to your hands when you think about it.

I still think it is amazing that we have hands.

Aren't they brilliant?

I don't think we spend enough time looking at our hands

and appreciating just how amazing they are.

You can do so many things with them.

You can create a work of art.

Maybe a painting or a beautiful sculpture

using your hands.

These things are incredible.

And yet I think for most of the time we take them for granted.

We just assume they are there. We just think.

They have hands.

So what?

Yet these things are amazing.

They are the most amazing things people can play musical instruments

with their hands and their fingers.

Piano players,

even guitar players,

especially terrible guitar players who only know RC4 chords

and then play them all the time.

Playing the trumpet, you have to use your fingers.

I know you have to blow as well, but you also have to use your fingers.

So there are many things that you can use with your hands and your fingers.

They are the most amazing things I feel

as if I have to somehow protect these because they are the most amazing things.

Feats, on the other hand

or the other foot

are not very great.

I think feet are pretty boring

and they do get in the way, especially my feet because they are huge.

I have very big feet.

They are too big in fact.

So feet feel they're not.

They're not is they're not as amazing as hands.

If I had a choice, if I could have hands

on the end of my legs,

it would be amazing.

I mean, you could still walk, but imagine all of the extra

things you could do if you had hands

I admire anyone who can play the piano

because it looks like the hardest thing a person ever has to do,

So anyone who can play, well, any musical instrument, you have my undying admiration.

I tried to play the piano, I couldn't do it.

Yes, there are many actions that we can describe, but here are some that I'm going to mention today.

We are going to have a look at.

So these are general terms that we can use.

So you might describe them as actions

I suppose they are actions things

that you do normally in certain situations.

Or maybe you can use them as figures of speech or idioms as well.

So let's have a little look.

I'm only here for a short time today, so I will

tell you now that I am only here for a short time,

as we all are

in this world.

First of all, we will have a look at the word grab.

Grab.

It's a Greek word. Grab.

There it is.

Grab.

To grab something, take hold of something.

If you take hold of something, you grab that thing.

Maybe you grab a person.

Maybe you pick an apple from the tree.

You might grab an apple.

You take that thing with your hand.

You grab that thing.

Also, we can take hold of something.

Maybe you grab something.

You can use both hands.

Of course you can grab with one hand,

or you can grab something with both hands.

You grab something,

you take hold of it.

You reach for something and take it.

You grab something, you might grab your

pen, you take it quickly.

Maybe if you have to do something in a hurry, you grab something.

Maybe you grab a meal.

That means you eat the meal quickly.

You prepare a very simple meal, and then you eat it.

We can say that you grab

a meal.

It means you get something to eat, something you can eat very quickly.

Over a short period of time, you grab something,

you reach for something.

You take something.

You take hold of something.

We can also use the word grab to mean capture.

So if you capture something, you grab that thing.

Maybe you grab an animal in the wild, maybe an injured animal.

You grab the animal so you can rescue it.

You capture something, a photograph.

We can say that you capture an image.

So when you take a photograph with a camera or with your phone,

we can say that you capture, you grab

a picture, you grab something, you capture that thing.

These days, of course, you can also grab

a screenshot or a screen capture.

So if you want to record something or make a note of something, maybe now you could take a screenshot.

You can grab an image right now.

You capture something, so you are holding on to it.

You grab something, you take hold of something,

you grab that thing so it doesn't just relate to the hand.

It can also relate to anything that you capture and keep as well.

So there are many ways of doing it, many ways indeed.

The word grab.

Next we will look at another word.

This word is grasp.

So this one is more descriptive.

To grasp something

you might hold on to something maybe you grasp

a branch on a tree to stop yourself from falling.

You grasp something.

You hold on to something

you take hold of, something you might grasp

a person's

shoulder.

Maybe you are worried or scared.

You might go up to someone and you grasp their shoulder.

Or maybe you grasp both of their shoulders.

Or perhaps you just grasp them and pull them towards you

because you are excited to see them.

As long as they don't mind, of course, as long as they don't mind.

We can also use grasp to mean understand.

So if you can understand something, it means you grasp

that thing, you understand it, it has gone into your brain

and you understand the thing that you are being told.

You grasp that thing.

Maybe if you are learning a new skill or something you've never done before,

you will slowly grasp the subject.

So in that sense, we are

using the word grasp to mean understand.

You understand that thing you grasp that thing.

We are using the phrase figuratively to mean a thing that you understand.

I now

grasp that I have been able to grasp the subject.

Maybe if you keep watching my videos slowly

you will grasp the English language as you listen

and read and look at the words I say.

Over time you will learn how to grasp the language.

So it is true

that you can grasp a subject

to understand that thing, to master

a certain thing, a certain type of skill,

to take hold of something, to hold on to something.

And of course, if you take something in a hurry,

you grasp something, you grasp something,

you take it quickly, sometimes in a hurry.

Maybe you grasp a person

by the shoulder.

Maybe you do something aggressively.

Maybe you grab them, you grasp that person.

Maybe you grasp them by the arm.

to grasp onto something.

So there it is.

We've already used the word grasp and we are using it now to describe the word grip.

Hold on tightly.

We can also use a phrase as well.

In English, you might tell a person to get a grip.

That means come to your senses.

You might tell someone to calm down and stop losing their control

over their emotions.

Calm down, calm down everyone.

Everyone should get a grip

and calm down and relax.

So we can use this as a phrase.

We can tell a person to get a grip of themselves.

It means control your behaviour, control your emotions.

So if you grip something, we can also say

you are handling that thing as well.

So the word handle has many uses.

We can use it as a noun to describe something you hold on to.

Maybe the handle on a door.

You have to turn the handle so you can open the door.

So you handle the handle.

So the word handle can be used as both a verb and also

a noun as well.

Grip something.

Handle something.

You are holding on tightly to.

Something you grasp onto something

you grip that thing.

There are many ways of using that word in various ways as well.

Here's another one.

The word is grapple.

Grapple.

I like that word. It's an interesting word.

It almost sounds made up, but it isn't the real word.

Grapple.

You grapple something

to struggle with.

Something you grapple that thing to grapple is to struggle.

You're trying to do something.

You are trying your best.

You are trying to do it.

You grapple with that thing you struggle with that thing,

that particular thing you grapple.

I'm going to drink some water

just before my throat decides to close up completely.

Excuse me, I need to grab some water.

Oh, that is nice.

Some lovely, fresh.

Water,

To soothe my throat.

Very nice.

So the word grapple means to struggle with something you are trying to do.

Something you are struggling to struggle with.

Something is to grapple.

Also, if you overcome something.

So maybe you have had difficulty doing something, but slowly, over time,

you grapple that thing, you grapple with it.

You overcome a problem.

You grapple that difficulty, you fight against it.

You struggle to do it.

But quite often with anything, when you start

doing something, quite often, it will be difficult at first.

Maybe you will have to grapple with it,

but over time, of course, slowly you will overcome the problem.

You grapple, you struggle, and then you overcome.

So you can say that you grappled that thing, you struggled with it.

To fight against something is also grapple.

So imagine people struggling with each other.

Maybe they are having an argument or a fight.

We can say that they grapple with each other, they struggle.

They grab each other,

they push, they shove, and they grapple with each other.

If you have to deal with something.

And of course, in this particular situation, we are saying that you have to handle a situation or a thing.

You have to deal with that thing, maybe a difficult situation or something.

You have to learn.

You must grapple that thing.

Maybe a new subject, maybe something you've never learned before.

You have to grapple with

that thing to deal with something.

Maybe you have a person.

It were, who is picking on you, or maybe they are bullying you.

You have to deal with that.

You have to grapple that person.

You have to deal with that problem because you need to sort it out

because it is a problem.

So there are many ways of using the word grapple.

Here's another one.

This is a word.

I wasn't going to put this word on the screen,

but it is very relevant for the subject.

The word group to grab hold of something

to grab hold of something you grab hold of, something,

or maybe you touch something with your hand,

quite often related to another person.

You grab hold of a person.

Maybe they don't want

you to grab hold of them, but you still do it.

So quite often this word is used in a negative way.

To grope someone is to touch them, but they don't want to be touched.

So to touch

is also to grope, to put your hands on a person, to touch someone.

Maybe you touch a thing.

So there is an interesting word.

Something that is inappropriate is something you should not do,

or it could be seen as offensive as well, or even against the law.

So this word is a very powerful word.

It does have many meanings.

You might search for something, but you have no details.

You have no information.

You are looking for that thing.

You are searching for something but you don't know where to look.

We can say that you are groping around and you are trying to find information.

You are trying to get the information, but you don't know where to look.

So we can say that you group around,

you are looking blindly for something.

You are searching for something but you don't know where to look.

So all you can do is grope around.

You are trying to find that information but you don't know where to look.

We can say that you are groping in the dark.

If you grope in the dark, it means you are looking for something.

You are searching for information, but you don't know where it is.

You don't know where the information actually is.

And finally,

grab and grasp.

These words can be used as synonyms to mean hold on to.

Although grab is often used more,

or it is used more often, so to grab something or grasp something.

Quite often we will use grab.

When it is something physical, you grab something.

However, we might use the word grasp to mean understand.

You grasp something.

So quite often we use the word grab to mean

physically hold something or physically take something,

and we use the word grasp to hold on to something

or to understand something.

So quite often we will use the word grasp in a different way.

Quite often we will use it figurative heavily.

It is a word we use in a figurative way.

There are, of course many other words we can use,

but that, as they say, is for another day.

Embrace is a word that is often used positively.

So to embrace something is to hold a person

normally in a gentle, loving, kind

You embrace a person's thoughts and opinions.

You embrace something.

You bring something towards you in a positive way.

So physically, physically, you embrace the person.

But I would say that it's not the same

as grope.

I think there's two things.
