Pick up a

This first phrase refers to continuing where you left off.

Maybe you end the meeting and you agree that you will pick up

next time you are together.

We will continue where we left off.

We will pick up with what we have already talked about.

We will continue with our conversation

dead end, to reach the limit of something.

Or maybe you can go no further with the thing you are doing.

We can say that you have reached a dead end.

Maybe you are working in a job that has no future.

You might say that you are working in a dead end job.

roll out.

To roll out something means to introduce something that is new.

Maybe you are revealing a new product to the public.

Maybe you want people to see your new invention.

You roll out some thing, you put it on show.

Also, to make something available for purchase

can be rolled out.

Apple have just rolled out their new iPhone 15.

Stand your ground

Stand your Ground is a brilliant phrase.

To stand your ground is to defend yourself.

Maybe you are being criticised for something

you said, but you want to defend yourself.

You stand your ground.

You stick up for yourself.

You defend yourself.

You are standing your ground.

Here is a very naughty one.

Two time.

If you two time someone,

it means you cheat on another person.

Maybe your partner, your husband, or your wife.

You do something without them knowing.

Quite often involving another person.

I love this expression because as you may have noticed, I like wearing hats.

To safeguard a secret thing.

Maybe something that is private.

Not a thing that you don't want other people to find out about.

Maybe you trust a friend to keep something under their hat.

You want them to keep it a secret.

To keep something under your hat is to keep something secret.

You safeguard that particular thing.

A sticky situation

A sticky situation is something that is awkward

or difficult to handle or deal with.

Maybe you are in a situation that is very hard to control.

Maybe you are in an embarrassing situation.

Maybe a situation you can't get out of.

You are in a sticky situation.

to be off your feet.

If you are feeling unwell, if you are under the weather,

we might say that you are off your feet.

You are off your feet.

You are resting because you are tired or unwell.

You are recovering from an illness.

You are trying to recover.

it means you are conspicuous.
