Well they say that all good things must come to an end and as you can see those

beautiful days of warm sunshine have sadly ended but not to worry I'm sure

they will return very soon coming up today we have the live chat with you of

yes here we go again it's another Sunday oh my goodness these weeks are going by

so quickly hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today

are you okay I hope so are you happy well are you are you happy or are you

just pretending to be happy I hope you are happy here we go again it's Sunday

Sunday the 22nd of April 2018 and it's mr. Duncan that's me on a Sunday it is

Sunday afternoon here in the UK I don't know what time it is where you are

because I'm not there you see I'm here instead so I hope you've had a great

week I must say I have had a very very busy week this week did you see the live

streams I have been so busy this week I have been on four times this week so

this in fact is the fifth live stream this week so I've been so busy over the

past few days I went for a live walk did you see that and also I did my Wednesday

night livestream I also did two more because with the weather this week has

been amazing it's been lovely and warm having said that this morning I woke up

I opened my window and sadly the rain was falling having said that let's have

a look outside now live you might notice that the rain has in fact stopped oh it

looks as if the rain has eased off look at that so not only the live site but

also the live sound as well can you hear the sounds the sounds of nature so there

it is the view and that is a live view so that's not recorded

that is a live view we will be seeing more of the garden later on because I

have a couple of very special things to show you today as I mentioned during the

week I have been busy doing my live streams I've also been very busy working

in the house as well I am preparing to do some renovation in my kitchen so that

is something we will be looking at very very soon also mr. Steve did something

very special yesterday can you guess what it was mr. Steve yesterday he

actually what he did yesterday for the first time he went out to mow the lawn

so he used his lawn mower yesterday for the first time and he had to do a little

bit of maintenance on the lawn mower first so we will be taking a look at

that as well so you will see more of the garden live and also recorded as well so

mr. Steve was very excited in fact last week all mr. Steve talked about was

getting the lawn mowed that's all he kept talking about he was so excited

about the nice weather he kept saying I hope it doesn't rain at the weekend

because I want to do my lawns so that's what mr. Steve managed to do yesterday

because the weather was quite nice not to mention that we were also out and

about yesterday buying some wallpaper and some paint and

other things that we will need to renovate the kitchen so that's what we

are doing I have had one of the busiest weeks in a long time I must admit it's

been a long time since I've been so busy so I hope you enjoyed the live streams

if you want more of that I am willing to do so I am willing to do it just for you

if you would like to have more live streams you are more than welcome I

don't mind so maybe next month because April will be finishing very soon we are

just over a week away from May May is just around the corner and that normally

means that the weather gets more stable so hopefully it will be nice but maybe

during May now this is just an idea that I have and I'm going to ask you what you

think do you think it would be a good idea to do more live streams during the

month of May so I'm putting the question out there to you it is up to you I I

don't have to if you don't want me to I won't but if you would like more live

streams next month let me know please let me know we might have a little vote

doing it even though it is a little bit tiring I'm not going to to lie when I

say that doing this is very very stressful in fact I've been working

since 7:45 this morning I got up to start preparing today's live stream lots

of technical things have to be done lots of work behind the scenes that I have to

do so lots of things that need doing so we have a lot of things to look at and

something I want to dimension because over the past few days I've been

suffering with these particular insects you may have noticed last week I was

talking about the lady Birds now I have some good news about the lady Birds the

good news is that the lady birds have gone they've all flown away they flew

off as the warm that arrived the ladybirds decided to

fly away so at this time of year when the weather gets warm the lady birds

will fly away and they will mate yes they will have some sexy time together

and then they will lay their eggs the females will lay their eggs and then the

eggs will hatch out and they will hatch out into something called larvae larvae

and then they will turn into a chrysalis I don't think that's the proper word but

I always call them crystallises or Chris Alli that's probably the chloral the

plural of chrysalis is probably Chris Alli I think so so the lady birds will

then hatch out again as fully-formed lady Birds so yes the lady birds have

gone they have all flown away and now I haven't killed them

don't worry for those who are wondering what I've done I haven't killed them I

have put Lots outside and the rest of them decided to fly away on their own

so I didn't actually need to force them to leave they left on their own as soon

as the warm weather arrived the lady Birds all flew away did you know there

are some very not so nice facts about lady bird did you know that lady birds

especially young lady birds will actually eat each other yes lady birds

are cannibals I hate to say it but they are

ladybirds are actually cannibals they will eat each other especially when they

are very young so it's not not a very nice thing to think about but yes it's

true and also lady birds are classed as

beetles so lady birds are just one particular type of lady bird now I know

I haven't mentioned the live chat yet so I suppose I had better mention the live

chat shall we have the live chat oh look there it is everyone the live chat is

it would be great if they are more scheduled such as those on Wednesdays

wish I could be live all the time I wish I could be live 24 hours a day but

unfortunately I cannot be live all the time I would love to be live all the

time trust me if I could be live on YouTube always I would oh I see

know why I hope not that would be typical wouldn't it that would be pretty

very busy next month because well first of all I have some visitors or one

important visitor who will be staying here in about three weeks time and also

I will be busy decorating the house as I mentioned earlier I am decorating the

kitchen at the moment so I'm doing a lot of things to keep myself busy as well as

minutes then that means that those that come on after 21 minutes will miss the

live stream so I always think that I I prefer from my point of view to do very

long live streams and then a lot more people can join in more people can catch

the live stream so that's the reason why my live streams normally last for a very

long time because I don't like to do short ones because then a lot of people

will miss out they won't have a chance to join in so I don't mind doing it to

be honest I love doing the live streams I wish I could do it all the time I

really do my winning is not as individual but my team and I won best

you why it's strange because my father is a professional chef my father for

many years was a chef and also he had his own business as well he would have a

catering business where he would cater for people's parties or special events

so actually my father was a chef for many many years

prize in your life I'm going to show you one of my prizes later I am going to

show you a prize that I won many many years ago but it's something that I'm

still very proud of so I'm going to show you the prize that I won a little bit

later on but right now we're going to do something else

all this week I have been busy doing live streams but also I have been very

busy in the kitchen I have been busy decorating my kitchen and now we are

going to take a look at what I was up to well it's that time

of year again when all of us start to think about making our homes look a

little bit more bright a little bit more cheerful perhaps there is a part of your

house that has not worn very well over the years now from my point of view here

in the kitchen well this particular kitchen has been like this since I moved

here in fact when I arrived here this kitchen

was in a terrible state and guess what it still is so today I am going to start

doing some decorating in the kitchen nothing too drastic I love that word ah

the word drastic nothing too serious nothing too brutal nothing too drastic

so something that is drastic is something that is very very important or

something that is very necessary drastic something very destructive even so I'm

not going to tear this kitchen to pieces but what I am going to do is try to make

it look a little bit more pleasant I am going to do some cosmetic alterations to

the kitchen starting off today with the thing you can see behind me the

wallpaper so all of this wallpaper is going to come off today I'm going to

strip all of the walls here in the kitchen and then I will apply some paint

after making sure that the walls are all lovely and smooth so that's what I'm

doing today and of course we did have some renovation done after moving here

we had new stairs put in and that caused a lot

of damage over there we had to have part of the ceiling ripped out and replaced

so that is also going to be tended to I am going to paint over all of that

plaster that is over there so as we take a look around the kitchen you can see

that there is a lot of work that needs doing

so to strip the wallpaper I will need this device it is called a wallpaper

stripper this is a very cheap version of a wallpaper stripper you can get very

expensive ones but this one is very cheap it is made of plastic so what we

have to do we have to put some water inside the paper stripper so this is

used to strip wallpaper from the walls so what will happen is that the water

will heat up and generate steam and then the steam will be transferred up a pipe

to the end where it will come out as steam and then you can use a special

plate that you apply to the wallpaper and then the steam will soak into the

wallpaper and hopefully make it all loose and easy to strip off so all I

have to do now is wait for the water to heat up and for the steam to be produced

and there I can get on with stripping off the wallpaper

this particular job may seem quite unpleasant to do but you don't need much

to do it in fact all you need is one of these this is called a scraper you

scrape things off with it so this particular tool is very very useful

especially when you need to strip one thing from another so all I have to do

now is wait for the water to heat up and for the steam to be produced and then I

can get on with stripping the wallpaper from this wall

stripping of the wallpaper is such a boring job stripping of paper it makes

me want to sob so all I'm doing now is pressing the plastic plate onto the

wallpaper and then the steam was slowly softened to wallpaper making it very

very easy to scrape off I must say this is a very laborious task it's a very

boring task something that's the Boreas takes a long time to do and quite often

it is very tedious very boring oh my goodness I've come outside for a

breath of fresh air because working inside that enclosed space is not very

pleasant an enclosed space is an area where no air can get in so inside the

kitchen you could describe that as an enclosed space and of course all of the

steam that is being produced by my wallpaper stripper is making the room

very hot in fact just now it felt like I was in a sauna to be honest so I've only

done one wall so far just one wall and that took me half an hour to do such a

long time this is not the most pleasant job in the world if I was completely

honest with you and I still have my work cut out that's a great expression I love

that expression if you have your work cut out for you it means you still have

a lot of work in store you still have a lot of things to do you still have a lot

of work to carry out

did it it did to do it's a Sunday afternoon and it's live English live

from England for all those who are wondering where I am broadcasting from

so did you see me strip the wallpaper from the wall in the kitchen that's what

I was doing that's what I'm still doing I have a lot of work still to do so

that's just the start of it so I'm taking all of the wallpaper off the

walls and then I am going to repair the walls because some of the walls are very

cracked and very damaged so since moving here I haven't done any work in the

kitchen so it's about time five years I've been at this house so it's time now

to start changing that kitchen so that's what I'm doing so this week I had to

strip strip the wallpaper off the wall and I used my lovely device that

produces steam it is the most efficient and quickest way to get that wallpaper

off the wall especially if the wallpaper has been on the wall for many many years

like the wallpaper that you just saw in that video so yes I would say that it

isn't the most interesting job in the world it is a lot of work and it can be

very tiring and as I said in the video quite laborious as well something that

isn't very interesting to do I will be painting the walls a very nice cream

color nothing too cold I don't like cold colors in the room I always like warm

colors or white I'm a very big fan of white I love white walls I don't know

why so in my bedroom all of the wall are white and I love that feeling I love

it when the light comes into the room and everything is it's very bright and

cheerful so I always like bright colors just like in my in my living room and in

my studio all of the walls are very bright and very cheerful but nothing

nothing dull so yes the the color I've chosen is a sort of cream color and it's

very nice it's very lovely so when the Sun shines in the kitchen everything

will look nice so I have to take the wallpaper off I have to paint the walls

but first of all before I can paint them I have to repair the walls so there is a

lot of things I have to do also yesterday we went to look for some new

flooring so we're going to replace the floor in the kitchen as well so because

it looks very worn and very old so that's also what I will be doing the

some of the flowers in the garden at the moment they're looking very nice that's

the year I love the season of late spring and

early summer I think it's a great time of year quite magical in fact we are

and I couldn't resist going outside to take a little bit of video footage I

decided to do a little bit of filming of the moon and here it is there it is that

this week we had a rather nice crescent moon so I thought I would go outside to

film it and there it is looking rather nice the moon in the sky and did anyone

see Venus as well the planet Venus was also very clear

this week in fact I think it was on I think it was on Wednesday or Thursday

Venus was right next to the moon so did anyone see that this week the moon and

Venus were sharing the sky together it looked very very nice so I do like

watching the moon it's not very easy to film the moon because you need a very

powerful telescope and also you need a very powerful camera so observing the

moon is not easy if you want to take a very close look at the moon you can but

you need a very powerful telescope or maybe a very powerful camera so there it

is the moon in the sky and it isn't a full moon at the moment it is a crescent

moon a crescent moon there are some countries that have the crescent moon on

their flag so their country's flag actually has the crescent moon on it

Plymouth it is very sunny but not hot no unfortunately all of that lovely hot

weather we had during the week has disappeared it's not very nice really

apparently Lena is going to the south of Russia it is one of the cities near the

seaside oh I see I'm even more in it is on the beach of the Black Sea the

city is not very far from Sochi oh I see yes because that's where they had the

Winter Olympic Games Thank You Lina for that very nice information thank you I

hope you have a very nice holiday as well have a good time on your holiday

the big question is this year am I going to have a holiday do you think I will

have a holiday this year I'm not sure at the moment I haven't booked any holiday

this year and nor is mr. Steve so at the moment it would appear that we are not

having any holiday so I hope maybe during June or maybe July we will get

the chance to to visit somewhere or maybe go away for a couple of days and

of course if we do decide to go somewhere I will do some filming as well

it depends where I go really here in the south of Brazil the temperature is very

nice Thank You Aurora for that thank you lots of people already talking about the

weather and their holidays I feel a little bit jealous to be honest if you

are going on holiday where do you plan to go on holiday mr. Duncan asks dial or

DL DL powers I don't know you see I haven't made any plans I have no plans

at the moment Bella says it's 16 degrees in sauer Jose in Brazil and it is

morning now and also in the evening it is cool well it's not very warm here

sadly we had some lovely temperatures especially during the week we had 25

I've had two meals today too yes I've just been munching into some

strawberries and a yoghurt okay and I had a piece of bread with some jam on as

well literally five minutes before coming on air I finished eating them and

I feel how lovely and full unlike yourself poor mr. Duncan oh poor mr.

Duncan you've had nothing to eat all day you normally have at least a bowl of

porridge ah yes I normally have porridge or maybe some Weetabix

or maybe what else do I sometimes have I have some lovely sort of sugary cereal

as well that I like eating but but I don't eat too much of that nowadays

because sometimes I eat too much sugar so it sounds as if mr. Steve has a very

full stomach and I have a very empty stomach yes I can hear your stomach

rumbling it was right over here on the other side of the studio yeah what can I

say I'm genuinely worried that you can actually hear my stomach rumbling so so

maybe when we look at your your little video clip of you doing the lawns with

the lawn mower because mr. Steve was very excited yesterday weren't you Steve

because you did the lawns for the first time you took the lawn mower out and you

cut the lawn for the first time this year I always get excited about that

I don't know why because I just like mowing lawns it sounds crazy you know

you know what you should do she kept a gardener you should be a

gardener or professional gardener yes you see I don't mind doing mine but I

wouldn't like to do say five or ten lawns a day I just like the hole because

when we were growing up my parents had quite a large garden and my father as

soon as I was old enough showed me how to mow the lawn with the lawn mower and

he set about me doing this then for the rest of my childhood in fact I think I

was mowing lawns from about the age of four probably all the way up till I left

home when I was 18 4 I'm exaggerating not really for that would have been a

bit dangerous but I'm sure I probably started mowing the lawns when I was

about 11 10 or 11 and my father showed me how to change the oil sharpen the

blades clean the air filter and because I've been doing it for so long I just

like doing it I like cleaning the spark plug and I like putting oil in and

making that making the machine maintaining the machine in its perfect

condition and then using it and then seeing that perfect lawn afterwards I

don't know why it's very old-fashioned people these days don't like to mow

lawns you see you there is one thing that a lot of people probably don't

realize is you like getting your hands very dirty you like doing things like

gardening and you end when you were young I know for a fact that many years

ago when you were young you used to like playing with cars real cars you used to

like playing with the engines and taking things to peace yes the carburetor is

like cleaning changing the filters the spark plugs the timing all that so yes I

used to like doing all that with a car I used to like anything that was practical

and it's always to have a like a like a laboratory at home as well because I

liked sort of chemistry experiments and things

I have all these test tubes and burners and bits of apparatus or apparatus if

you're in America and I used to do all these experiments out of these books

very dangerous at times I must admit I I used to do to my bedroom at first and I

set fire to the bed once yes we've we've we've heard all about your adventures

setting fire to your parents house in fact in the hour in the hour and a half

leading up to coming on today with you I was cleaning my grandmother grandparents

old chair covers I did I said that oh I've mentioned it already yes I said

because someone asked what's mr. Steve doing people are always interested in

what you're up to I don't know why but thank you but I said mr. Steve at the

moment is is renovating his grandparents chairs some very old chairs now between

you and me III told Steve that they should be thrown out because it to me

for from my point of view I think that they're just junk well we will when

they're finished I'll take a picture of them and you can show them to your

lovely viewers and we can see what people think

the chairs actually they are quite older over 100 years old and I use the table

upstairs as a desk but they're not particularly valuable because I we try

to go to the local shop secondhand shop that sells sort of antiques and things

like that old furniture mm-hmm and I said all right will you do you want to

buy these off me and they said oh that's not particularly good quality furniture

we wouldn't really be interested in buying that so I think it was at the

time see it looks like it might be worth something now but at the time everyone

was buying sort of tables and chairs that were quite ornate looking and

they're not worth very much at all so but I like them because they're they're

old it's a goes back into my past I remember them

you know I like to use them it's sort of yes it's it's a sort of sentimental

thing sentimental value I like having old things around me but can I just say

that there's one thing yes I I saw what you did though there was a joke coming

there yes yes I know I saw what you did you like to have old things around you

you are referring to me yes oh but we have we have a we have a junk shop well

if I say junk shop but I hope the owner isn't watching but in fact it's an

antique shop there's a lot of antique sites kind of antique but a lot of the

stuff in there is to me for again from my point of view I think it's junk but

but I've noticed that some of the things in that particular shop here in Much

Wenlock very very expensive for what they are they are it's overpriced which

of course a lot of antiques are so but these things aren't even antiques some

of them just look like junk yeah that someone's thrown out of their house and

maybe an old table or an old set of stepladders you know like 50 60 pound I

know I don't know who buys them somebody obviously must buy them they probably

rely on stupid tourists thinking that it's worth something by the way if there

are any tourists watching who are going to visit Much Wenlock you you are not

stupid okay we just need to clarify you are if you go to that shop and buy some

of the stuff there in fact if you go to that shop and buy something here some of

the stuff in there it's very expensive we won't name the person because you

know we might get sued I don't know who they are

yes that's what I was doing I was washing these chair covers because I'm

going to get them I was going to get them recovered but I thought why why

would I pay to get them recovered when the covers on them can probably just be

cleaned and you know that but I'd have probably spent a hundred pounds getting

to seat covers replaced and I've cleaned them and I've they're drying outside now

and hopefully they look lovely I can use one upstairs

I might even I'm going to use one in here next week I'm get

this chairs going oh and I'm going to be sitting in one of those chairs oh okay

so but what about that lovely chair that you're sitting on now this well that can

go back up to where it was which was up in my sort of room like a room upstairs

my mancave I remember all those weeks all those weeks when you were

complaining about having nowhere to sit and and then I thought we could use that

that big chair that was upstairs and now you don't want it this used to be my

office chair it did it's not very expensive it looks expensive but it's

not very cheap leather it is it's plastic isn't it I don't think it's even

letting it it's plastic I think it's vinyl but the trouble is it's too

comfortable so you know I sort of fly back here waiting to go on I just feel

like going to sleep no one really bothers about that don't worry if you

want to have a little sleep during the live stream Steve you are more than

long time and they looked in a very poor state that well I that well that's the

reason why I thought they were just junk really I thought I thought there's no

point keeping them it's just junk well I went on to youtube which isn't just good

for watching mr. duncan teaching English mm-hmm lots of other things and I just

put in restoring old furniture and then all these lovely videos came up and

showed me exactly what to do and it wasn't very time consuming to bring the

wood back up to looking nice and new yes and it was lovely I enjoyed doing it and

of course it is a hobby for many people now many people do this I think we

talked about this about three weeks ago people buy old things and then they

renovate them they make them look as good as new so maybe they buy an old

chair or another thing that's very popular is to buy old cars

that's right buy old cars in fact I wanted to do that as a business one so I

bought a book telling you how to buy cars and do them up and sell them again

mmm bit like buying houses doing them up and

selling them but it was I just thought it was too much work and I wasn't a

trained mechanic yeah so I mean I only used to tinker around tinker tinker I

love that word tinker when you tinker around with something you you're just

sort of doing little bits mm you're not really you're not doing it serious not

doing it seriously you tinker with something you tinker with something else

so ever so in terms of car maintenance I really just tinkered so I would do

some of it the easy bits but I wouldn't do the hard bits so I couldn't service

the entire car I just tinkered with certain

things played around with them messed with them and hoped it worked as I

mentioned earlier we're talking about prizes have you ever won a prize Steve

Steve I mean it's not like it's not as if I like embarrassing Steve but do you

think you're right yes it was in little old music festival Litchfield is a

beautiful place by the way I actually made a video one of my lessons is

actually made in Litchfield less than fifty all about the creator of the first

dictionary how did you remember it was less than fifty because it was a it was

a notable moment you see when I reached fifty so when my lessons reached fifty

lessons I I wanted to do something special so I did a special lesson about

the life of Samuel Johnson who created the first ever proper English dictionary

I remember helping you doing the filming yes so yes that is available by the way

I think so so I so yes we went along to this singing contest and when we came to

actually arrived when we arrived there we found out that there were only two

people taking part in the particular section that you were

actually entering so so the category that you were entering Steve only two

people entered the get who won guess who weren't out of two people mr. Steve mr.

Steve mr. Steve won the contest but there were only two people taking part

so I still won yes you did you did win I mean I can't take that away from you you

definitely did win the prize you win this you got this lovely cup and you

kept it for one year didn't you that's right I did a trophy and then I had to

send it back then you had to give it back after one year but I just thought

that was brilliant that though we went all the way to Litchfield for mr. Steve

to take part in this contest and only two people entered the category that mr.

Steve was singing him which is I think is male voice tenor or something like

that thing like that but the other the other bloke was was really very good he

was he was chopped world class so to beat him you know I must have done

exceptionally well my money was on him it's a lot I lost a fortune I can't even

remember what I was singing no but I remember I remember you picking the

prize up in it you know yes it was funny I was I was going yeah and this giant

Cup yeah this giant Cup but only two people were taking thought it was it was

like you know it has been like a three day event with hundreds of competitors

you know what would it be more that was out of proportion to the to the actual

frightened to the actual competition itself it was funny I must admit what

they should have actually done it's just got you to fight over the cup they

should have just had the cup on the floor and then you just you just fight

each other until until the person who the person who wins is the one who gets

the cup the realtor's the reason why there are only two people

in it is is is symptomatic of the state of that style of singing in this country

which was a sort of a classical competition really yes and so they have

lots of different over the two or three days that it's all

they have lots of different categories so they'll have one for sort of people

young for children then they'll have one for sort of teenagers they'll have

adults and then you'll have women and men and different categories of song and

things like that but of course because people don't sing a lot of these sort of

classical type songs anymore they used to have probably you know dozens of

people entering each class but now because everyone wants to sing R&B or

pop songs and be on x-factor they don't necessarily want to sing you know leader

or something like that which is a category of German song so consequently

there's hardly anybody enters these types of god I don't even know thanks

still going no no it was Litchfield Musical Society or something wasn't

festival because field music effect Litchfield musical festival and mr.

Steve was one of the winners a few years ago oh yeah but only two people were

taking part do you want to see my prize go on I've got one prize this is the

only thing that I've ever won in my whole existence on planet Earth it is

this is how badly YouTube treats me this is what they think of me so even when I

reached 100,000 subscribers YouTube did not send me my play button

and even when I read of them when I reached 500,000 I received nothing so I

don't know I don't think they're going to send me anything I don't think they

because you went out too the lawn for the first time didn't you

oh yes I was excited and now do you know what we're going to do now we're going

to actually have a look at mr. Steve mowing the lawn yeah I wanted to mow the

lawn and mr. Duncan mr. Duncan kept filming me so it stopped me from doing

it and I was getting a little annoyed so I might look a little annoyed in these

pictures you weren't annoyed you were concentrating very hard well

we'll explain something about it afterwards hmm okay here we go this is

mr. Steve yesterday in the garden and he was mowing the lawn for the first time

this year oh hello mr. Steve oh hello mr. Duncan so can you tell us what you

are doing today it looks very interesting

well this blade has been sharpened because it was a bit blunt for the lawn

mower so I took the blade off myself took it to this place and they've

sharpened it for me they did it for free which is very good because I bought some

oil off the minute and a new spark plug and now I'm going to fit it back on

again and then I need to cut the glass because it's getting a bit long so I'll

put this back on having determined which way round it goes we think I've

disconnected the spark plug for safety just we don't well there's accidentally

going off although there is no petrol in it because I haven't used it yet this

year but nevertheless we don't take any risks what's that particular thing

you've got in your hand now that's a socket wrench and that can be used for

it's a very handy tool for undoing bolts and also for taking the spark plug out

tell us a bit more about the sparkplug mr. Steve what exactly does the

sparkplug do the sparkplug is a very important part of a petrol engine

because as the name suggests the spark goes across the gap in the spark plug

and that ignites the fuel the petrol going into the cylinder and in this

particular lawnmower there's only one cylinder so we only have one spark plug

but in a car you might have four or five or six or eight if you're lucky and so

that ignites the the fuel and air mixture which powers the whole machine

is it important to get the gap in the spark plug correct it is you need to

have the correct gap because if it's too wide you won't get a spark at all and if

it's too narrow the spark won't be bright enough or powerful enough and

then you'll lose power in the engine so you need to get it just about right

there's a little bit of tolerance there so it's you don't have to be absolutely

spot-on but you have to try and get it accurate and you also have to have a

nice clean spark plug otherwise it won't fire properly I would

clean the spark plug using a small wire brush so what tool do you use to make

sure that the gap on the spark plug is correct I use a feeler gauge so by using

the feeler gauge you can actually tell whether the gap in the spark plug is

correct that's right because the feeler gauge has a whole different range of

sizes here which you can put between the gap and if it fits perfectly you know

it's the right gap if it isn't you can widen it all or narrow it so this is in

millimeters so I've got 0.63 which is that one and then I've got point five

about half a millimeter I've got point two and you can

stack them up together but to get the right gap so the gap in that sparkplug

needed to be between point six and point eight millimeters so I've got a point

six three which would have been fine but I just put it added on a point zero four

to it just to get it nearly up to seven point seven which is just where I think

it needs to be oh it looks as if mr. Steve is now ready is going to start

mowing the lawn

it's a Sunday afternoon it's a time where people like to relax and learn

their English and improve their spoken skills yes it is and it's live English

with mr. Duncan and also joining me today

you were in the garden so I believe you have a little story to tell us well only

a quick one I took the blade off because normally I

don't do that I take the whole machine in because I'm a bit worried about those

blades because they're rotating at very high speed and I'm not sure how to take

them off and all that sort of thing anyway I looked it up I took it off took

a picture though I'll take a picture of that so that I know how it goes back on

took it to be sharpened and when we came to put it back on yesterday I discovered

that it could be put on two different ways and obviously don't to put it on

the wrong way because I wasn't sure whether the lawnmower would take off

because normally it's sucking air from the ground and pushing it into the into

the grass box but if you'd put it upside down it'd probably take off I thought I

was getting a bit worried in case the blade flew off and and we were all

killed or something so what we had a last-minute panic and we had to look up

on the Internet what was the quote which way up to put

the blade now where are you safe and wait wait there a minute I need to clear

something up when we say when you say we panicked what you really mean is you

panic I wasn't panicking I just didn't want a serious accident involving a you

know a metal sharp blade spinning it thousands of revs per minute flying off

yes but the chances of it doing that was slim but also the fact that I had to

wait for 20 minutes now even though that that video you just watched was only

five minutes long but it took it took nearly an hour to film that and most of

that time was taken it with Steve trying to

to work out which way round the blade went anyway we got it right eventually

but you you were really worried and then you went onto the internet you were

sitting there in the garage with the phone in your hand again thanks to

YouTube watching a YouTube video where this man was saying you need to put the

blade around this why this is the way around the blade is supposed to go yes I

would you would have thought something like that could have only fitted on one

way but in fact there were two ways for it to fit on two ways was a little

disconcerting yes the live chat is very busy people wanted to talk talk about

your rare situation yes you could have transformed or what if you transformed

your lawnmower into a helicopter yes exactly you could have you could have

flown away I could have started it up and it might have just taken off d2e

roomie Nicole Nicole seems to be a bit obsessed about me finding nasty termites

Oh twice Nicole you mean the chair I'm sitting in here or do you mean the one

that I missed my grandparents yes I think that's what Jake it's not yes

exactly because old furniture can have we call it here wood worm wood worm we

don't really have termites as such that bore into wood in the UK but I know

Nicole you're from is it Brazil or South America Brazil I think and of course in

the forest there you've got these these that these termites that will will eat

away it would but we don't have those in the year I think we do but we don't they

don't tend to come into your house we have something here called wood worm mmm

that used to be a blight for old furniture little beetles lay eggs and

then addend and then the larvae the larvae sort of hatch or they squirm and

they they they eat the wood they look like little maggots and they eat into

the wood or they might be insects I'm not quite sure what they are

but yes but no there aren't any on there thankfully there are no tell-tale holes

I think that's I think that's what Nichole means the chair I'm going to be

sitting on rather than this that's it they're a type of insect no type of

insect yes so I would imagine in Brazil there it'll sorry I think it's a type of

beetle yes talking of beetles we talked about the

little animal that's been in the house all week the the lady Birds the lady

birds have now departed they've all flown away to start mating thankfully

and did you know that the to spot not this one not this particular one but the

two spot lady bird is very promiscuous did you know that the two spotted Lady

Bird and also the Harlequin Lady Bird that it that's thorn with the black

shell and the red spots they are very very promiscuous they they just they

just go around mating with lots and lots of different partners so yes that that's

another little fact and and they can pick up lots of horrible little diseases

little animals that live inside the shell of the Lady Bird you mean a

sexually transmitted disease yes sexually transmitted so little lady

birds actually spread these things every time they mate

so maybe the male is very excited and he goes to the female but afterwards he

actually gets these little mites crawling onto his body and then they had

child on his body gd's as we call them for short and also

his TDS for lady Birds perhaps I need to go to the genitourinary toe urine oh the

shield which is a sort of that sort of a shape or you might get a something made

of silver you might get a silver spoon or some silver cutlery or a goblet a

goblet which is just like a metal suddenly for drinking out of made of

metal right also you can use so trophy there is being used as something that

you get if you've won a competition but if you are at war with somebody you

might take a prize you might take something from that country and you

would call that a prize if you go out hunting for animals if you are the sort

of person that likes going out hunting for animals you might describe that as a

trophy and you might cut off the head of an animal stick it on the wall and and

that would also be called a trophy you can have something called a trophy wife

as mr. Duncan finished eating you can have a trophy wife study which is a

status symbol usually from older man marrying marrying a younger woman you

would call her a trophy wife somebody that can be that the older man can have

on his arm to show off a trophy wife only a glamorous woman I I hope one day

I can be a trophy wife to someone no chance mr. Duncan you're well past that

I think a trophy wife would have to be quite young

normally a glamorous woman if you see a glamorous woman on the arm of an older

man you would call her a trophy wife there are other words but we'll keep

them clean today yes if you win up right here's another phrase booby prize booby

prize whose B prize booby prize this is an

award given to the worst performer or team in a competition so there's a

competition could be anything could be running could be football

it could be something at work and the person who comes last gets a sort of a

joke award and you call it the booby prize

so it's silly but the word booby comes from they think it comes from the word

silly so it's like a a silly prize so you might have you might have heard that

say for example at work or or on television for contestants that come

last or don't do very well they normally give them a booby prize which is

something stupid like like a vegetable or that the traditional booby prize it

is a wooden spoon and they give that often to people who come last so that's

team who come last or don't do very well sometimes you have to avoid the booby

prize as well so maybe in a competition or a game show on television yeah they

might have boxes and in one of the boxes is something very valuable and in yes

and in the other box there is something it is not valuable and and the the not

valuable thing will be called the booby prize it's not it's not you wouldn't

really want it it's worthless and it's usually something silly and of

course you can also use booby trap you can you can use booby trap a booby trap

is a hidden trap something that can't be seen so maybe on a mine field where

there are explosives hidden you would say that they are booby traps booby

traps that's right you can't see them so even though the word sounds funny it can

have very a very serious meaning I was just using it in connection with prize

hmm but booby prize and here's a phrase that you can use as well okay no prizes

for guessing no prizes for guessing there we go so that is a phrase

indicating that the answer is very easy to deduce or very easy to see or obvious

so it indicates that the answer is obvious and it's usually or often said

sarcastically so for example no prizes for guessing why John didn't show up to

work the next day after his birthday so John's birthday and then he didn't come

in to work the next day no prizes for guessing why he would obviously had too

much to drink than I before and was too ill to come in the

next day so that's one example I could say about mr. Duncan no prizes for
