English Addict - 138 / Live from England / Express Surprise and Shock

wow what a week what an amazing week what an amazing month we've had so far it has been

incredible oh hello everyone nice to see you here we are back together again and yes we

are live on youtube right now it is sunday afternoon where i am it might be different

where you are but we are all here together again yes it is another english addict coming

to you live from the birthplace of english which just happens to be england hi everybody

this is mr duncan in england how are you today are you okay i hope so are you feeling happy

are you happy today i hope you are feeling super duper on this super duper day because

we have made it all the way to the end of the weekend yes for those wondering who is

that strange man staring at me from my computer screen or mobile device well my name is duncan

i talk about english i've been doing this forever such a long time do you know how long

i've been doing this for

some people say too long nearly 15 years i've been here on youtube and yes i am youtube's

best kept secret and can i once again say thank you to the algorithms somewhere in california

there is a small blue flashing light and that is me

that's me doing this now

so thank you to the youtube algorithms for making sure that hardly anyone ever gets to

see my content isn't that nice thank you very much i don't know what to say i'm i'm quite

flattered so here we go again yes we have made it all the way to the end of the week

and also almost the end of the weekend because it's

sunday

here we are then yes we are all here together again and it's lovely it's ever so nice it's

it's really nice being here i must be honest i feel very comfortable and relaxed when i'm

standing in front of my camera talking to you and it's so nice to have you here again

and as i mentioned at the start of the live stream this month has been busy i've been

here with you almost every day live and i will be with you until the end of this month

which of course will be next sunday so another week of special fabuary live streams coming

your way until next sunday and it will be the last one next sunday so instead of english

addict we will actually have the last day of february next sunday mr steve will be here

of course as usual as he is today oh very nice mr duncan that's very nice of you to

say that coming up we're talking about surprise surprise and shock have you ever felt surprised

have you ever felt shock so that feeling when someone tells you something that feeling you

have when you hear something that you weren't expecting you feel shocked surprised sometimes

you can have a nice surprise and sometimes are not so nice surprise this week everyone

was saying mr duncan we are so shocked and surprised by your appearance because something

has changed something about your appearance mr duncan has changed so this week a lot of

people were shocked and surprised talking of which mr steve had quite a few shocks and

surprises last week because he was celebrating his birthday we also went into the kitchen

and i gave mr steve an extra special birthday present and i have to be honest with you steve

looked quite surprised when i gave it to him do you want to see the picture so here is

one of the photographs from last week here is mr steve you will see him

there he is oh mr steve oh there he is mr steve in the kitchen on his birthday having

a lovely time and i also gave him a gift during the live stream and here is the picture of

mr steve receiving his gift there it is and later on we are going to see that particular

gift close up but not only that the next day i actually gave steve another present another

surprise gift and he will be showing that a little bit later on when we have our super

duper live chat with mr steve we're going to find out what it feels like to be

another year older that's all i'm saying hello to the live chat oh we have the live chat

we must not we must never forget the live chat because without you i would have nothing

they are back every year around this time a certain type of food comes back and imagine

my surprise when mr steve came back from town yesterday with those things but what are they

excited i'm always happy but if i have a nice surprise involving food then i'm even more

surprised i'm even more excited so what food has become available again i will give you

a clue it has something to do with easter the festival of easter it has something to

have rowan sabre i haven't seen you for a while it seems like a long time since i saw

available again this week it is an item of food that comes around every year at around

this time oh dear so nice oh every time i see these i get very excited my mouth starts

to water my appetite becomes very strong look at this yes the hot cross buns are back again

the hot cross buns are back again they have returned so mr steve came from town yesterday

and in his little hands he had some hot cross buns so i'm quite pleased very proud i don't

know why i'm proud because i didn't make them i didn't make these hot cross buns but oh

look at that so today after we finished today's live stream we will be having some hot cross

buns they look lovely and they're nice and fresh as well so that coming up after today's

live stream has finished

however we are a long way from the end of today's live stream we have a long way still

to go mr steve is coming we have the sentence game as well for those who love playing along

you all you have to do is guess the missing words in the sentence game it's easy to play

it's also lots of fun as well shall we play spot the white van now yesterday unfortunately

we couldn't play it because the weather was so bad but today we have a lovely clear view

outside the window so here we go spot the white van all we have to do is spot the white

van so look along the road you will see cars going by so all you have to do is spot the

white van no that's not a white fan and that's not a white van see those are not white vans

they are suvs i'm sorry i can't accept suvs it must be a white van any sign of a white

van now i know today is sunday so maybe there aren't many people driving around in their

white vans so as we look live into the distance we are waiting patiently for the appearance

of a white van come on is that a white van no it isn't it's an suv i'm sorry we can't

accept suvs it must be a white van so if you are driving around the much wenlock area today

in your white van can you please now drive along the much wenlock road so we can continue

with today's live stream that would be very nice thank you very much where are the white

vans come on it's like it's like waiting for christmas i'm standing here like a fool like

a stupid fool waiting for a white van to come across if anyone sees a white van please scream

can you please open your window and shout no it's not fair well is that a white van

well it's it's almost a white van i think that was a silver van as well did you see

that so there was a there was a large van it looked like a delivery van and then there

was a there was like a silver van but it must be a white van

apparently there are no deliveries on sunday according to belarusia and i think you might

be right you might actually be right it doesn't look as if we're going to have any white vans

today although there might be a white van coming to my house to take me away to the

local hospital

where are the white vans that's all we need just one white van

well i think this must be the most disappointing spot the white van ever there's not even one

we haven't even had one white van we've got lots of birds i can see some sheep in the

distance but no white vans well that was very very disappointing we will wait for five more

seconds and then that's it we will have to abandon the white van game

no no white vans what a pity what a shame i feel slightly crestfallen crest has fallen

okay fair enough no okay be like that no what no that was a red car

no no white vans it's not a shame i was looking forward to seeing a white van of course now

you can guarantee that the moment that i take the camera off you can guarantee that there

will be lots and lots of white vans going by i think so well that's a shame i was hoping

to see some white vans today but no sadly not hello to oh can i say hello to some of

at some words and phrases connected to being surprised we are looking at shock and surprise

there are many ways of expressing shock and surprise many words we can actually use including

astonishment astonishment the word astonishment means surprise something you were not expecting

so the actual emotion is astonishment we can say that you feel astonished you actually

feel astonished i i'm astonished i'm astonished i can't believe it i feel astonished shock

surprise you are beside yourself if you are beside yourself it means you can't believe

what you saw or you heard maybe you heard some news from a neighbour and you can't believe

it you are beside yourself you can also be beside yourself with anger or any strong emotion

so a very strong emotion that changes the way you feel maybe it makes you feel surprised

or shocked you can say that you are beside yourself you can be beside yourself with anger

amazement the amazement amazement the emotion of feeling shock and surprise quite often

we will use amazement in a positive way something that you thought was incredible something

that you thought was surprising in a positive way amazement is the emotion you feel amazed

i am amazed that thing is amazing amazed here's another one you are blown away i am blown

away i can't believe it the thing that i saw the thing that i heard has left me feeling

surprised shocked i am blown away something that makes you feel very surprised you feel

flabbergasted i love this word flabbergasted when was the last time you felt flabbergasted

has there been something recently in your life maybe something in your life that has

left you feeling shocked surprised stunned flabbergasted i like that one it's a great

word it doesn't sound real but it is real you feel flabbergasted

you are astounded astounded if you feel astounded it means you are surprised shocked something

that makes you feel quite taken aback a person who is taken aback is a person who is surprised

you are astounded maybe you see something that is very impressive maybe you see someone

with a very good skill or an ability to do something very well you are astounded i am

astounded at how well you do that you are great you are brilliant i feel astounded

you are bold over you feel bold over if you are bowled over by something it means you

are really surprised you are bold over perhaps you go home after work and maybe the house

is dark and you go inside the house and then suddenly all of the lights come on and everyone

is there all of your family and friends and they are giving you a big surprise because

it's your birthday you see so you get home and you think everything is normal but then

suddenly the lights come on and everyone says surprise you are bold over you feel so surprised

you are stunned surprised but in a nice way in a very nice way to be bold over you can't

believe your eyes if you can't believe your eyes quite often this means that you can't

trust your senses you think this can't be real this can't be true this can't be really

happening you can't believe your eyes you might say oh my god

you are so surprised and shocked you feel as if you can't control your emotions oh my

god really i can't believe you just told me that i can't believe it i am shocked i am

surprised i can't believe what you've just said i can't believe what i've just seen many

of us will just say what has a reaction quite often we will exclaim our surprise so a reaction

to a surprise will often be in the form of an exclamation you are surprised what i can't

believe it i'm shocked what wow

you've gotta be kidding you've gotta be kidding you must be joking i i don't believe what

you're saying you are telling me something that is so surprising i actually can't believe

it you've got to be kidding when we say kidding we mean joking we are doing something that

isn't real we are making a joke however if you hear something that is shocking or surprising

maybe you don't believe it because it's so surprising you are so shocked you've got to

be kidding i don't believe it

no way

really no way you are reacting to something that you've heard something that you have

heard that you can't believe it leaves you shocked all you can say is no way

oh gosh

now i know what you're going to say there are some people on here who might say mr duncan

no one no one says gosh anymore maybe 40 or 50 years ago but not now people don't say

gosh but you might oh gosh so oh gosh is actually a polite way of saying oh god you see so oh

gosh it means you are avoiding saying anything that might be offensive oh gosh i can't believe

it i'm shocked

now here is something that might be naughty it might be considered swearing bloody hell

you can't believe it you've heard something you've seen something and you are shocked

so you are expressing that feeling of shock and disbelief through your words bloody hell

it's incredible

oh here we go

w t f yes i know i'm sure you all know this one don't write it on the live chat please

but you know this one you know what this is quite often people will come onto my live

stream and they will say mr duncan or they will say what am i watching wtf what is this

who is that strange man what the fudge what the fudge except that isn't the word so to

express surprise quite often we will we will swear we will say things that we wouldn't

normally say quite often when we are surprised or shocked we might do or say things that

we would not normally do or say perhaps you hear something and you can't believe it

say that again

what i i can't believe what you've just told me say that again you are surprised normally

when hearing something you hear some news that you can't believe say that again incredible

and one more

of course the most common one when someone does something or says

something i don't believe it i'm so surprised i am so shocked i i can't accept what you've

just said i can't accept it i i don't believe it i don't believe it i don't believe what

you've just told me i am so surprised and shocked i don't believe it and those are some

words that we can use to describe feeling surprised and shocked i hope you enjoyed those

something a little different for a sunday afternoon talking of different in a few moments

full english lesson i have so many things to show you today we have no time to do the

introduction you might say that i'm pressed for time i'm working against the clock i'm

on a tight schedule i don't have much time so without any more hanging about let's get

on with today's full english lesson which will start around about

what is the hardest part of learning english is it the learning of new words maybe the

grammar used in english is what leaves you the most confused perhaps you feel too shy

to use english in front of other people learning anything new can be quite daunting you might

feel intimidated by all the new words all of the grammar rules and even after you have

mastered those then you have to use the language with other people i think it would be fair

to say that speaking a new language for the first time might make you feel nervous but

there is no need to fear as this is completely normal if you want to improve your spoken

english then why not practice doing it by

yourself speaking in front of other people can be very

scary so first of all you need to get used to the idea of doing it it may seem like a

strange thing to do but practicing in front of a mirror is a great way to build some of

that initial confidence get used to your own mannerisms and ways of showing what you are

saying facial expressions and body language are just as important as the words you are

saying conversation relies as much on eye contact and body movement as the things being

said if you happen to have one of these wonderful devices or one of these wonderful devices

then you are well on your way to improving your vocal technique using a recording device

can help you to get accustomed or used to the sound of your own voice it might feel

a little strange hearing yourself at first but after a while you will begin to enjoy

it and your confidence will slowly build i suggest you start off with some simple words

and sentences and as you listen to the sound of your own voice you will be able to hear

where there may be some problems

one common problem which can arise concerns the speed of your speech there is no need

to rush what you are saying give the listener a chance to hear your words of course you

must also speak clearly so don't rush and don't mumble once you feel confident enough

you can move on to speaking with other people get a few of your friends together or members

of your family or even your classmates to listen this will allow you to get used to

speaking in front of other people and over time your confidence will grow if you have

no one to practice with why not join an english language group if there isn't one why not

create your own

it's time to take a look at another buzzword a buzz word is a word or phrase that is popular

during a certain period or is often used generally today's buzz word is publicity stunt the phrase

publicity stunt refers to an action carried out to gain attention whilst creating public

reaction to perform an action or say something for the sole purpose of creating attention

which in turn creates publicity for those responsible is a publicity stunt the attention

sort can be either good or bad even bad publicity can generate business an outrageous comment

or an action that provokes criticism might in fact be nothing more than a publicity stunt

of course not all attempts for attention are bad a promotion for a new movie or a message

posted on a billboard that creates confusion or intrigue might also be just some very clever

publicity stunt the main purpose of a publicity stunt is to gain as much attention as possible

in as many ways as possible the word publicity describes the action of promoting a product

or an event for commercial gain the word stunt shows that the thing gaining the attention

was planned and choreographed for the purpose of publicity

hello hello my wonderful friends and mr duncan yes oh how are you today what does that mean

is that you okay does that mean i'm not one of your friends well you're more than a friend

mr duncan you know that after my beautiful birthday presents the other day which were

there for all to see if you missed last week mr steve had his birthday it was also pancake

day and steve made the most amazing pancakes and i didn't realize it was it was the first

time that you'd ever made pancakes it's the first time well it might not have been the

first time oh but it certainly is for many many years oh uh mr duncan so uh they were

nice and it was i just want to say once again how lovely it was to share my special day

with yourself and everybody else on your wonderful youtube channel yes it was interesting it

was quite good fun and also also that i brought you some gifts as well so here is a little

picture of steve enjoying his day there it is so there was steve last week he was in

the kitchen he looks like he looks like one of the black panthers well of course i'm wearing

that t-shirt mr duncan oh yes i'm wearing that t-shirt okay uh giving people a clue

as to my age in case they didn't already know yes there is there is a very slight clue thank

you everyone saying hello how lovely thank you very much for saying hello to me it's

so nice to be here mr duncanville do people want to see the results well first of all

i'm going to show you the picture so here are some pictures i'm showing first of all

from last week so we were in the kitchen we made some i can't remember what they're called

pancakes we made some pancakes and then afterwards i i decided to give mr steve an extra present

so in the morning i gave you some chris some birthday presents including this yes including

that we've we've got that steve yes and i gave you something else a surprise gift and

you were really emotional you were quite surprised you were not expecting this extra gift i was

filling up is that a good yes and i was getting very emotional as well because i i just wanted

it to be a special day i wanted you to remember this day or the day that we spent together

on your birthday i wanted it to be memorable so now forever when whenever we think of your

60th birthday we will always remember the time we did it live and we'll be able to watch

it uh now mr duncan you bought me that model car yes that i had to build myself that's

it it was so it did require some effort assembly assembly it had to be put together so it was

in small pieces a kit yes as a kit that's a that's a good one so the car

can you show us the car because mr steve yesterday afternoon he was in his office and he spent

all afternoon making this car look at that i have to say that is pretty amazing and the

doors open yes like that the only thing missing it's got an engine look at that it's all oh

god i can't get it oh mr duncan there we go it's got an engine uh yes i think it was about

30 pieces and you had to put them all together including the reflective mirror on the back

of the wing mirrors yeah so even even some of the small detail you had to do yourself

so this of course if anybody doesn't already know what is my favourite car that's it a

ford mustang isn't that just great i just love the parts i love the fact that the doors

open i will show you again that particular amazing version i think is from the 1990s

and even the dashboard inside yes has has all of the details it's it's just incredible

that is the most amazing thing it's a long time since i put a model together from kit

form and it was very enjoyable uh see that that is uh from the 1990s i think that particular

version of the mustang yes but wait there steve we haven't finished yet but the next

day so let's have a close look at that again so this is the one that i i gave to steve

last week look at that it's amazing so there it is close up that's the one i just showed

that's it okay steve but the next day mr steve received another surprise i had something

else hidden away yes another gift which you decided to keep until the next day yeah so

the day after mr steve's birthday and i told steve to look somewhere and he couldn't believe

it it was actually another gift so now you can show the gift right so this is another

ford mustang yes but this is the original ford mustang from around 1967. yeah so we

had we actually have two different versions of the ford mustang two versions so that's

the early one and this is the later one so not only does mr steve have the nice muscle

version he also has the one of the early versions of the ford mustang so we actually got two

ford mustangs for mr steve

this one was already made i didn't have to put this one together but i think i prefer

this one but i like both of them yes but eventually my goal is to have one of my own so so next

year mr duncan the third one that you get me has to be a real one i don't think that's

happening i really don't think so not on my youtube not on my youtube salary well if you

get a million subscribers who knows you might get a massive bonus from youtube no youtube

as i said earlier somewhere in california there is a little blue light flashing a tiny

that's not me being watched that's the algorithms flashing to make sure that no one sees me

beatrice collects model cars oh really yes i didn't know that beatrice says here that

car is amazing i like to collect little model cars well why not get one of those to your

collection so there it is again so that's the the later ford mustang that's the one

i gave to mr steve on his birthday and here is the one that i gave to him the next day

but what i love is the detail i mean that that you could say that that was a real car

yes full-sized so it's amazing i was i was really quite impressed with how how good and

how detailed well you did really spoil me i did on my birthday if you say that you spoil

somebody it means that you pay them lots of attention buy them lots of gifts give them

everything they want yes well nearly everything yes

so yes so it was it was a wonderful day and i'd say once again it was wonderful to share

it with all you as well i uh we've got betty davis on here today yes bette davis eyes i

said that to her earlier there was there was a song you see in the 1980s a very famous

song i think it was a one-hit wonder i don't remember this lady having any more hits but

she had a hit with something called

she's got bette davis eyes well betty davis eyes is from italy okay and we have a lot

of people from italy and a few people have been commenting on the fact that uh mount

etna has been erupting yes and did you say the other day that you had somebody who lived

quite close i do to mount etna and in fact sent you a video yeah a picture yes i think

it was marietta and uh she she lives in sicily and she had some wonderful footage i haven't

got it here unfortunately it's not loaded into my system here sadly i just really mind

my ears are sticking out i just realized i pulled my hat on so tight my ears were sticking

out you look like a bat mr duncan uh yes amanda you've been swearing as well have i yes you've

been swearing i haven't been swearing honestly well people have been repeating phrases uh

that you've been using which i think have come quite close to swearing well yes but

but sometimes the heck yes well that's okay that's not really swearing and only joking

uh but were you discussing what were you discussing exactly i was talking about expressing surprise

and shock a bit like you last week when mr steve received his gifts from me on his birthday

and also his surprise gift later on and also the other surprise gift that i gave in the

next day mr steve has had many surprises many nice surprises tomex says don't you think

you're worth being spoilt i presume there's a question mark at the end of that or are

you actually saying i'm not worth being spoiled no i think don't you think that you're worth

it yes i do well it is nice sometimes to be spoiled quite often in relationships you might

take your husband or wife away somewhere maybe to a nice hotel but of course we can't go

anywhere at the moment can we steve because you know well we yeah we can't go to sicily

to look at mount etna we can't go anywhere it was maria by the way yes maria giovanna

la rosa yes that's it it was fantastic i wish i could show it again but i haven't loaded

it into the computer meek well also likes ford mustangs now i've i have watched endless

youtube videos of people test driving forward mustangs it's true do you know it's regarded

as one of the most dangerous cars you can buy and you want more because it's got a very

powerful engine and it's rear-wheel drive and it's very light at the back and has this

propensity that's a big word propensity propensity so is that is that like it is it is liable

to do something or it has a habit of doing something exactly if you if you have a propensity

for something it means you are inclined to do it you are very likely at some point to

do that thing you have a yes i like that i don't know where that came from mr duncan

that's why i am you know you know that word steve that word almost deserves a fancy pants

felt a bit embarrassed then mr duncan yes so the propensity that the ford mustang has

is to lose its back end and uh spin round if you put too much power on in a corner and

you want one of these death traps but well i think i think that what people do is when

they're test driving it they put it on sort of race track mode which switches off all

the electronic safety devices okay uh so i think if you have it in normal mode on the

road i don't think it will do that uh but anyway i'm i i i want to find out well the

really surprising thing is now there's there is actually actually an electric version of

the ford mustang how did i spit at that version but it isn't really the ford mustang they

they've i think even i'm offended by it this this ford mustang that they recently brought

out is the worst car i've ever seen but they're using the the ford mustang name on the front

of what is an suv yes it's basically a an all-terrain vehicle but it's not it's not

a ford mustang so steve is i have to be careful when i say that i forgot there that steve

gets very emotional don't you okay well people always associate forward mustangs with big

five-liter v8 engines uh but of course that form of propulsion wow that form of propulsion

the internal combustion engine okay uh probably will be gone in the next 20 years yeah well

petrol's going in in about seven yes so we probably won't be able to buy these types

of cars anymore so i'm gonna get one and then i can keep it forever because uh there'll

only be electric versions and i'm sure that eventually you know within the next five to

ten years probably in the next five years there will be electric only versions of ford

mustang probably will never happen in america no okay certainly here and in europe this

is not this is not a car channel by the way uh well it is today it was my birthday the

other day i can do anything mr duncan yes on your birthday but today is not your birthday

so all right let's talk english so you can't but i got a few big words in there didn't

i you did internal combustion engine and i will explain them all to you later so we are

talking about surprise and shock mr steve had some big surprises and big shocks last

week here's a photograph now i want to do something quickly before we have flags of

not to speak but please just for a moment now here's an interesting photograph steve

right do you know where this is and also do you know why this photograph is so special

so there is a reason why this photograph is so special so this is something just quick

just something quick that we're doing notice the word quick steve okay right somewhere

in england is it it is in england there's a man without with a with a smart dress it

looks like it was probably was it in the 60s well well what what what do you see well i

see people dressed in collar well there's a steam train for a start but that's the thing

you see you know i don't know why i don't know but you know how did you manage to just

to see the people with clothes on before the steam train well because we still have steam

trains on on sort of old railways don't we steam trains are still running as part of

the leisure industry i'm already regretting this so you know that my first thought was

oh is this a fake black and white photo from something that was only like a year ago at

bridge north no but so yes i'm saying it's the 1960s people look very smart that woman's

dress there uh yeah you see it's not older than if her skirt had been down to the ground

i'd have said 1920 okay so a skirt sort of up to a knee so i'm thinking 1950s or 60s

okay am i right well you're kind of right but but why is it special there is something

very incredibly special about this photograph is it the royal train it is not it's nothing

to do with the royal family a lot of people talking about the royal family at the moment

for various reasons but everyone's very smart so they're expecting somebody to they're not

standing at the station so yes it's a special event somebody's coming in that are they somebody

special arriving in that train no but the train is doing something that is both special

and slightly sad as well uh is it the end of the era of steam well this was during the

end of the steam era however steam trains were still running in certain places okay

why that photograph is so special i will show you again so this this photograph is very

hold back i didn't even make me one he just put it in the toaster covered it in butter

and munched it down just before we had the flags of the world i showed you something

what is the significance of this picture so i'm going to tell you steve this photograph

was actually taken in much wenlock where we live this is the last passenger train ever

to leave much when railway station wow when was that the last one it was on the 21st of

july 1962. so one year after you were born wow yes so there it is that is the last ever

passenger train leaving much wenlock railway station interestingly the railway station

is still there it's now private housing so there are people now living inside the old

railway station but the railway line has disappeared so they took the railway line away but you

can still walk along the railway line in fact you and i have walked along there many times

we have it'd be nice to see a train going along there though it would i don't think

they would have much control over it as there's no rails so they never even had uh diesel

trains there that it was uh you

the last train there was it was a steam train yes so just after that of course the railway

station closed the the the railway line was torn up so it all went but the the railway

station you can still see it and apparently part of the platform is also still visible

somewhere but i but i think you have to look very carefully because it's underneath lots

of sometime in their last 50s bushes early 60s there was a a massive campaign i can't

remember his name now there was a it was it was dr beeching beaching dr beeching was put

in charge of the uh the regulizing or deregulating the railway lines and because of that they

they decided to also make cutbacks so many railway stations many railway lines actually

closed and this was at a very crucial time because of course diesel was starting to be

used as well so around the 1960s there was a big transition taking place so many railway

stations closed many railway lines were dismantled they were taken to pieces including the one

here in much wenlock it was closed and that picture that you just saw i will show you

again very quickly that's the last ever passenger train leaving much wenlock and you can see

there are lots of people there waving goodbye as it steams away of course um in this country

uh railway lines were the predominant means of transport in those years but of course

they were building roads and people were getting cars and buses so the railway lines became

very unprofitable so they had to make considerable cut backs yes uh you know people have debated

this over many years because of course it's very difficult now to leave a place like much

wendlock and many other small towns unless you've got a car especially in the countryside

in the countryside because a lot of the bus services have now been cut so unless you drive

you're pretty much stuck here unless you get a taxi do you want to see another interesting

photograph uh well we're looking at photographs of much wenlock as you know quite often i

will do my live streams from the the town square in much wenlock would you like to see

what the town square used to look like go on before they modernized it so here it is

this is actually the town square in much wenlock look at that how different it looks blimey

so that is so different so you can see there are no shops there so that the only shop you

can see is actually the white building on the right but everything else is isn't there

there's a car in the square yes so this actually used to be a car park the main square in much

wenlock used to actually just be a parking space it's true and you can see there is a

little red telephone box there and to give you an idea where i normally stand if you

look to the right you can see a small vars and also it looks like a refuse bin a little

rubbish bin that is where i normally stand when i'm doing my live streams but look how

different it looks look how different the appearance is there's no shops there i wonder

what that shop is there on the right it looks like a clothes shop that used to be the post

office so originally in much wenlock that building was actually used as the post office

but now it sells clothes and it still does so that still is a clothes shop that particular

shop so there it was so this i think this photograph was taken in the mid 70s the mid

1970s so you can see it's changed a lot of course the clock is still there i think that's

a vauxhall nova is it if anybody knows cars i think that's a small vauxhall i think it's

a nova okay so that could be yes that's late 70s early 80s maybe even so just before they

started to renovate and refurbish the square in much wenlock so it used to be a park a

parking space do you know the date mr duncan i don't know but i think it was i think it

was the the mid mid or maybe late 70s just before they decided to build some new lovely

shops and then they made the whole area in the square they they allowed people just to

walk around there it became a pedestrianized area what are we doing for the rest of this

lesson mr duncan well we have the sentence game coming up of course isn't that great

also i suppose we should also address the one thing we haven't really mentioned and

that is my appearance yes well you're happy well i'm happy i don't know why you're pulling

your face well i was pulling my face because i'm not sure we wanted to talk about it but

people have uh yes so it's gone my beard has is no more that's what it used to look like

you had all sorts of sores uh underneath from where the dye had in fact damaged the skin

you told me your face was bleeding yes well i had all sorts of burns they were like burns

on my face from the hair dye so i was i was making my my beard look darker as you can

see from the photograph there it is look again so there is you see so that's before i shaved

and this is now it's like magic satorino going back to that picture of wenlock square okay

satorino says and she must be better at identifying cars than me she says that must be from the

1980s because there is an old opel corsa oh so yes opal in the uk was vauxhall okay um

i think it was opal in germany but in in the uk we called the same car a vauxhall so i

thought and it was a call i thought it was a nova but it could be a courser which is

a slightly bigger version so i i mean looking at that mr duncan i think that's 1980s really

definitely okay i'll try and find out because that car is definitely not from the 70s so

there it is again so i can only see one of the cars clearly though i can't see any of

the cars just that one saturino says it's a corsa series two oh okay so did you used

to own one of those maybe that is definitely an 80s car because that'll be front wheel

drive uh so very so they probably the builders were moving in the next day after that photo

and everyone was saying that i look much younger now you do since my beard has made that comment

uh and prolinku anon says why don't you go to the place where the steam train is and

i think it is because in the uk if you say that you're eating brioche then that's a sign

of very high class living in the uk and only posh people in the uk would say oh i had brioche

for breakfast you're obsessed with class by the way everything everything i do you always

compare it to to whether or not posh people do it but if somebody said to you oh uh you

know before you bought bought this bread okay somebody said oh have you tried brioche well

i've got oh come for dinner we've got brioche well i've heard of it i have heard of it it's

in fact they have it we had some of it when we were in paris they actually served some

brioche tours to one of the restaurants that they that your company took us to is it seen

as a posh bread in france or is it just ordinary bread well lots and lots of different types

of bread as well in france because france is the the birthplace of lots of wonderful

types of bread and now i feel so hungry thinking about it well i had some friends in birmingham

okay well i still they are still friends they are still friends i'm glad you've sorted that

out well there was a couple and then they split up so they split up now but the one

was from france okay but actually it was from french guyana and his mother had a house on

the outskirts of paris and we used to travel there on holiday okay occasionally actually

it was when you were in china okay and uh i was lonely so i went on holiday with my

friends in birmingham to their house in paris the other outskirts of paris and it was near

this little village and we used to we used to uh walk in in the mornings to a lovely

blue lingerie and that gorgeous bread great big crusty rolls of bread bring them back

and eat them

that's why they call it french bread probably i know i used to like going there every every

morning and getting the bread because you've got to eat it because it goes off very quickly

yes anyway but is louis here is brioche posh bread in france or is it just ordinary bread

i did actually mention this during the week as well and and it is widely available not

only in france but also around the world quite often if you have a meal they will give you

a little slice of brioche to go with your salad or maybe if you have a bread selection

which is even better for me and that's another thing i love about france and going to paris

is there is so much bread so many different types of bread florence just made her bread

oh uh people are always cooking and doing things when they're on the livestream i think

i think we are a good influence we are good to have on in the background so not not everyone

watches us not everyone looks at our beautiful faces quite often people will listen to us

whilst they're doing something else maybe going to the toilet or we have the sentence

people who are pretentious but people do that they drop in french words like like our neighbour

who use who used to live around here she was very pretentious everything was posh everything

back i like that well um i used to work for a french company okay and uh we used to visit

the head office from time to time okay and when we did and we went for lunch their lunch

breaks went on for about two hours i like it uh where yes but then they work for later

they work until later so we get what half an hour for lunch but whenever we went out

for lunch there it went on for about two hours two hours lunch i like that i'm talking 20

years ago so maybe things have changed but that lifestyle in france uh has been put under

people are trying to make reforms aren't they i think the government out there to change

the way of life and people are fighting against it and i think you should well the french

government the french government have not had much success with keeping the gotta believe
