now they are supposed to be  baby chickens but unfortunately  

i couldn't find any stock footage of baby chickens

so unfortunately those are actually baby ducks

i'm sure some of you have already spotted that i'm  using baby ducks instead of baby chickens anyway  

it doesn't really matter because we are here again  yes it is another sunday it's a rather unusual  

sunday because today i am outside and we are live  yes we are live in the garden it is a beautiful  

day and everything is looking rather nice we are  here once again hello to you and welcome this

how are you today are you okay i hope so are you  happy i really hope you are feeling happy today  

yes i am outside i have been busy all  morning preparing my live studio outside  

now if you remember last weekend i mentioned  that we were going to get snow today  

but guess what we haven't got any snow instead  we've got lovely glorious sunshine everything  

at the moment is absolutely gorgeous we have a  lovely day i will try to show you my other camera  

hopefully it will work so there it is a beautiful  view today and everything is looking rather nice  

it's also very quiet as well i i'm very  pleased to find that it is also very quiet  

which which i'm feeling quite pleased about to be  honest it is a beautiful day you might be able to  

hear the birds singing in the distance everything  today is rather nice yes we do have mr steve  

coming up later on also steve will be here do not  worry steve will be here on the live chat as well

some people it isn't easter and i also know for  some people it is so for those who are celebrating  

easter today can i say happy easter to you and of  course there are people who don't celebrate easter

a little bit later on in the year because  there is a difference between some

i feel quite good today i don't know why but i  woke up this morning with a spring in my step  

and a big smile on my face i don't know  why maybe because the weather was nice

holiday here today in the uk so we are having a  public holiday yesterday was also a public holiday  

for some people and of course on friday as well so  last friday was also a public holiday so we have a  

very long public holiday during easter which is  rather nice hello also to flower espou nice to

weather is absolutely gorgeous i couldn't resist  coming outside you might hear the occasional  

airplane or helicopter flying over my house of  course there are now you might not believe this  

because i'm so famous now on youtube they actually  have tours that you can take in a helicopter and  

you can fly over my house and take pictures  of me in the garden or maybe taking a shower

if that's your kind of thing so if you do hear  some helicopters going over don't worry it's  

just the local helicopter company that are now  giving people little trips around the area here

no sentence game i'm going to say that now  there will be no sentence game because we're  

outside and to be honest with you it's a little  bit too complicated to play the sentence game

course as i mentioned earlier it is sunday but it  is no ordinary sunday because it is easter sunday

mr steve is here today i don't know what he's  doing but i know one thing he's been in the garden  

i don't know what he's been doing  i have a feeling i'm not sure  

but i think steve has been chopping logs  again now i find that rather strange because  

during the week steve actually chopped all  of the logs so he has no more logs to chop so  

i'm not quite sure what steve was chopping this  morning so we will find out that because i i'm  

rather curious to find out as well to be honest  can i just remind you about something that  

happened last weekend if you are a little confused  about why i'm here why i am here now just a moment

i want to just remind you that the clocks  have changed the clocks have actually  

gone forward by one hour from gmt to bst  so from greenwich mean time to british  

summer time so for those who are wondering why  there is a slight time difference maybe you are  

watching me and perhaps you are wondering why  the time is not the same well here it is still  

the same time it is 25 past two in the afternoon  but now of course the clocks have changed  

and in certain parts of the world people will  also be changing their clocks as well they will be  

moving their clocks forward by one  hour so that happened last sunday

did you see last sunday's live stream i  don't know what was happening last week  

i was in a very strange place in my mind  because the clocks had changed however  

today i'm feeling super duper i hope you are  as well i hope you are feeling wonderful today

we have some words connected to party coming  up today the reason why i'm doing that is  

because yesterday i noticed a lot of people  were having parties around here and also a  

lot of people have been getting together  again as we begin to return to normal life

i can't remember what normal life is like to  be honest but apparently yes we are all slowly  

returning to normal life here in england and  that is what is happening so this weekend a lot  

of people have been getting together families and  friends have been getting together for small group  

parties celebrations for easter perhaps someone  celebrated a birthday a few months ago and  

maybe the family didn't have a chance to get  together so maybe maybe that's the reason why  

hello also christina ricardo beatrix mika hello  mika nice to see you here as well one of the good  

things about the clocks going forward is that  it allows us to meet at a more reasonable time  

it allows us to meet at a raw more reasonable  moment of time so nice to see you here v mita mika  

i was very distracted then because mr steve was  hovering in front of me he was moving around i'm  

not sure i'm not sure what he was doing but it  was very distracting very distracting indeed

it is not green screen behind me this is real  this is actually real what you're looking

you see so this is real and there  is a little daffodil from my garden

every spring i don't know what it is but  when spring arrives something happens inside

hello to oh olga says i love daffodils me too i  love them i love all flowers to be honest oh i  

know what i want to mention if you look at this  camera view very closely i will show you now can  

you see it i hope so you might be able to see  some purple flowers in the distance those purple  

flowers are actually magnolia so you might be  able to see some purple flowers at the bottom of  

the screen can you see them waving around those  are actually magnolia flowers and the magnolia  

has now come out of course you can have white  magnolia cream magnolia and also you can have

those lovely pink magnolia plants as  well looking rather nice at the moment  

in the garden mr steve will be here in a few  moments don't worry he will be here shortly  

for those who can't get enough of mr steve  steve has been very busy this week even though  

he is supposed to be on holiday because he's  taken extended leave so he's actually got  

over 10 days free from work oh fancy  pants fancy pants mr steve ooh very nice

okay that's enough that's enough  we can't have too much fancy pants

we can also see the magnolia now in japan  yes well ours have only just come out  

i don't know why but i've noticed living here  high up i've noticed that many of the plants  

and many of the flowers and many of  the blossoms always come out a little  

bit later than everywhere else so down  there where everyone is living low down  

their blossoms and their flowers always come out  much earlier but here up here right up here high  

up on the hill they always come out much later  it's very strange i think it has something to do  

with the temperature that's what i think we are  looking at words connected to party and also eggs  

as well because it is easter and i couldn't  resist talking about eggs and chocolate and  

i'm sure mr steve has something up his sleeve  as well if you have something up your sleeve  

it means you have something hidden away perhaps a  surprise perhaps something you weren't expecting  

a person reveals something as a surprise  you weren't expecting it to happen  

because that person had something up their sleeve  very nice christina nice to see you here as well  

during the spring season we can admire all the  colours of nature and and also feel the scent  

we can sense the aroma of all the flowers  of all the blossom i love this time of  

year so much i can't begin to tell you  how much i love springtime i really do  

we are going to have a little break and then  we will be back with mr steve however we are  

going to have a look at one of my full english  lessons by the way there will be a full english  

lesson on wednesday it will be the last one  for a while so the final full english lesson  

will be on next wednesday as usual and then that  will be taking a break and then after that we  

will have something a little bit more special  maybe something live on wednesdays hmm we will

hi everybody and welcome to what can only be  described as a video language lesson posted on  

the internet coming to you from the birthplace  of the author a.a milne who wrote the stories of  

winnie the pooh and his various animal friends  plus his human companion christopher robin did  

you know that christopher robin was a real person  in fact he was a.a milne's son england is also the  

birthplace of the english language which is why we  are all here today so without any more small talk  

or jibber-jabbering let's get on with today's  full english lesson which will start right now

your memory can play tricks on you you might be at  work doing something mundane when all of a sudden  

a memory pops into your head it might be a random  moment from your past something that has left an  

impression on you might simply pop up in your head  you might have a flashback a moment in the present  

can send you back in time a certain sound or smell  from your childhood that occurs in the present  

can transport you back to your younger years  sometimes the memories consist of unhappy events  

and moments we would rather forget looking back  on your life experiences is normal you reminisce  

you reflect you consider what occurred by  remembering the events that went before  

as we get older our distant memories become more  precious your memories make you the person you are  

they are your individual experiences  that are an irreplaceable part of you

here are two words that look similar but have  different meanings the words are frill and  

thrill firstly the word frill with  an f means an attractive addition or  

decoration you make something look more  appealing by adding frills you might see  

a frill on a woman's dress or skirt you  might add frills to a pair of curtains  

so as to make them stand out more so something  that makes an item seem more appealing is a frill  

in business you might see frills being  added to a particular type of service  

this hotel is worth staying at just  for the frills the extravagant services  

added to something can be described as frills  of course the opposite can also be true  

if a business wants to cut costs or make something  more affordable then they might take away the  

frills a basic service without the unnecessary  comforts or luxury can be described as no frills  

the air ticket to france is very cheap but  it comes with no frills you are getting the  

basic flight with nothing added as a bonus a basic  service is a no-frills service then there is the  

word thrill which can be either a noun adjective  or verb something that makes you feel a sudden  

rush of excitement can be described as a thrill  it was a thrill to see bts in concert last night  

i was thrilled to be asked to speak at the  seminar the sudden rush of excitement is a thrill  

you feel the thrill your breathing becomes deeper  your heart might suddenly start racing you are  

feeling the thrill the thing that gives you the  thrill is thrilling such as a thrilling fairground  

ride a thrilling movie or a thrilling expedition  the thrilling thing is the thrill the thrill is  

what you get from the thing that is thrilling you  an excited looking person can appear thrilled the  

smile on his face told me that he was thrilled  to be there so as a noun thrill names the feeling  

as a verb you can cause a person to feel thrilled  and as an adjective a person can appear thrilled  

so there you have it frill and thrill two similar  looking words with very different meanings

it's true that the english language can  be quite confusing especially when it  

comes to pronunciation good examples of this  occurrence are the words lose and loose chose  

and choose firstly the word lose means to mislay  something it describes the sudden loss of an item  

or person the spelling of lose often causes  confusion for many when it comes to written  

english the word chose is used in the past tense  as something that has been chosen you chose it  

i chose this dress yesterday whilst out  shopping so despite the similar spelling  

the word lose and chose are pronounced very  differently then we have loose and choose  

firstly the word loose means the state of  slackness or free movement i have a loose tooth  

i should go to the dentist i guess then there  is choose which describes the action of making  

a selection you select something you choose an  item i will choose my wedding dress tomorrow  

it's worth remembering that while chose  and chews are related lose and loose  

are not thus proving that the english language  can sometimes be a very confusing thing indeed

hello there it looks as if mr steve has something  in his hand especially for easter hello steve  

hello mr duncan and hello to everyone out there  lovely to be here again mr duncan as you know  

never eats anything in the morning in preparing  for his live stream this is true i i'm a person  

who especially on sunday i'm i am a busy bee and  quite often i forget to eat so all i can say is  

the smell from this hot cross bun is now going  up my nose and it's making my stomach grumble  

it really is oh look i thought you'll be hungry mr  duncan i will bring you a hot cross bun because it  

is easter sunday it is easter sunday unfortunately  i don't know how the religious people will  

uh will like the fact that i have split this right  down the cross i don't think it matters really  

uh but there you go are you hungry mr duncan it's  still warm i've just taken it out of the toaster  

oh there's a nice airplane going overhead i'm  enjoying the plane we are having some tourists  

coming over at the moment apparently  the local aerodrome is now sending  

airplane tours and also helicopter tours over  my house for people who are interested in seeing

seeing mr duncan and mr steve from the air they're  dragging a big banner behind them and it says  

watch mr duncan no i think i think it's actually  saying don't watch mr duncan it's it's very nice  

of the the local uh airfield to put on a display  for you are you going to eat this mr duncan before  

it goes cold so first of all let me explain for  those who don't realize this is a hot cross bun  

this is something we always have at easter  it is symbolic i suppose you might say for  

those who are religious because if you look very  closely there is a cross and easter is all about

Christianity and for those who who are  following the Christian belief easter is  

a very important time if you don't hurry up mr  dumb can that hot crust bun will become a cold  

cross bun okay steve you can have half thank you  thank you i'll have the i'll have the one half  

where the cross has been uh split into okay  ready so here we are i hope you don't mind  

that we are eating i'm salivating me  too i'm really hungry i mean genuinely

i'm genuinely hungry so please excuse me for  a moment whilst whilst i eat my hot cross bun

well yesterday hmm our neighbor  who is a very good cook  

uh brought us some homemade hot cross buns she'd  made them herself because they're a bit like bread  

you need to let them rise with with live yeast and  then put them in the oven but because she knows  

you're not keen on they have to rise like like  somebody else we know that's it you see they rise  

they resurrect in the oven anyway carry on uh and  there's a good word we'll come back to that later  

you're not keen on currents or raisins because  there are currents and raisins in hot cross buns  

so she made some for you especially just with  chocolate in oh my goodness if you've never tried  

chocolate hot crust buns all i can say  is you are missing something amazing well

we were very pleased that uh our neighbour thought  of us and brought us some homemade hot cross buns  

now which are better these or or our neighbours  do you think i think they're both it's good but  

but i do like the chocolate ones so this one  doesn't have chocolate inside this one has  

currants so there you can see and raisins and  you don't like them but you do like chocolate  

but these are okay it's okay  oh my goodness please excuse us

we're gonna make everybody hungry as we usually  do can you also wipe your mouth there's food all  

over mr steve's face now there's also um spices  in hot cross buns as well they put mixed spice  

yes which is sort of cinnamon uh i think that's  lemon as well cinnamon bit of ginger maybe  

in there it's just ground mixed spice that you use  for making cakes i get cinnamon ginger in there  

and it just gives it a little extra spice which  is what is special about hot cross buns you've  

actually made some in the past oh yes well i  can turn my hand to anything as you know mr  

duncan talking of which steve has been busy in the  garden this week chopping his logs i can't believe  

you haven't got a log in your hand i  ripped mr duncan i could go and fetch one  

just like that i can go and put a log okay

well the thing is mr duncan  because they're essentially pine  

logs so that they're logs from the  conifer tree i move some inside  

we've got a little store room uh just uh just  on the other side of the kitchen okay and uh  

where we keep logs and things like that so  they're easy to get at in the winter months  

and the smell of pine like you said it was like  pine disinfectant it sounds like someone has been  

pouring disinfectant everywhere they're very  strong so um apparently they go up like napalm  

yeah you keep saying that but we had some the  other night and they didn't i don't think that's a  

good choice of word either by the way probably not  well yes right oh yes innarty said stop hovering  

around mr duncan so what happened did i did i  disturb you earlier well you appeared in front of  

me and i wasn't expecting to see you you kind of  maybe jump a little bit but if someone is hovering  

it doesn't mean that they are floating in the air  it means that they are just moving around they are  

they are not doing anything in particular they're  just moving around they are floating around  

to move from one place to another that might be  described as floating around a person is floating  

they're not staying in one particular place  you hover around someone it means you're sort  

of there all the time almost in an annoying way  like a fly stop hovering around me yeah imagine  

a fly hovering and flying around someone just  they're there for no no particular reason they  

just happen to be near you all the time and  you can say why are you hovering around me  

like that stop hovering it's usually used in  a negative way isn't it to describe people  

by the way inside the hot crust burn is butter so  we've just put a little bit of butter inside but  

they are lovely you heat them up you heat them  up i might be able to show you one close-up  

wait there i think i have something here yes nissa  the weather is nice and pleasant today it looks  

warmer than it is i would say it's actually on the  cold side because we often get this in spring and  

we've got an easterly wind which means it's cold  probably i would say it's no more than about 12  

or 14 degrees and i actually feel a bit cold so  within the next hour and a half look my fingers  

are turning well we we're showing the hot cross  bun oh right okay okay i just literally said  

that that the one i just brought in that was very  good of you mr duncan okay then it's very similar  

that's that's a hot cross bun it's close up so  you can make them i'm sure you can find the recipe  

as well online i would not be surprised if  the recipe is available somewhere for your  

own delicious hot cross buns i think so my nose is  running i've been sneezing a lot sneezing at you  

haven't i mr duncan okay uh because there's lots  of pollen in the air particularly from the conifer  

trees and i think it makes me have a little  allergic reaction yes i never used to suffer from  

pollen allergy as i'm getting older uh then i  seemed to be for some reason one sort of thing  

did didn't you say last night that you are  deteriorating oh yeah steve steve has been  

so worried recently about his health i don't know  why but what we all do i mean i do it sometimes  

last year i had a little scare with my health  you don't know about that by the way i've not  

mentioned it but yes we all we all have them from  time to time but steve said something really funny  

last night he said i feel as if i'm deteriorating  and i said deteriorating and i said if if you  

are deteriorating if you are then then i have  no chance because steve might be you are one of  

the fittest and healthiest per people i've ever  met really very nice to know thank you mr duncan  

thank you full of energy life and annoying um  right somebody said here that in uh satorino  

remind us where you are satorino right do you  remember i can't remember the easter treat is  

the pasti era pastiera that sounds that does  sound italian or spanish or maybe a little french  

pasta pesty because we i always think of when you  think of pasties i always think of sort of either  

like like um yes like like maybe in the french  language or italian sierra yes it sounds italian  

i'm going with italian uh so yes um well whatever  that is it sounds very nice like a like a pasty  

in in the uk we've got something called a  pasty which is probably very different to  

that um okay pasta's like a high fat laden sort  of crust with usually meat inside it that's it  

it's normally associated with sort of builders  what uh you said workmen whether you're doing okay  

physical work eat pasties in the uk because  what is it it's like it's like a puff pastry  

well yes it was it's not puff pastry first  of all it's it's it's normally heavy pastry  

heavy fatty and inside you have meat  or vegetables but but it's a it's very  

it's very popular as a snack a quick snack you  can go to the cake shop or a bread shop and quite  

often they will also have hot meals hot snacks and  pasty a pasty pasty is very popular cornish pasty  

so if you google if you go to google and google  cornish pasty p-a-s-t-i-e you will find that  

pesteria is italian i believe i said that  i i'm i'm i'm the winner i'm the best  

bigging yourself up mr duncan bigging yourself  up yes if you big yourself up it means you over  

inflate yourself okay in terms of your abilities  right and skills okay pick yourself up if you  

go for a job interview people will often big  themselves up they will say more about themselves  

than is actually true or maybe exaggerate  the truth a bit yes um and we all know people  

who like to sort of show off and embellish or  exaggerate their talents i think i think also just  

just to be proud of what you do as well if you do  something well then you might want to big yourself  

to to big yourself up to talk about your  achievements i'm always doing that are you  

on the live streams in a jokey way i'm always  picking myself up on time if you say something  

saying how good i am at the garden and chopping  logs okay i still can't believe that you haven't  

showed us one of your logs i can go and fetch one  do you want me to go and fetch don't go get a log  

okay bring us steve bring me your favourite  log so maybe a log that you are somehow  

attracted to or drawn to maybe maybe when you  were chopping the logs last week maybe you had an  

extra special one that it was like sending you  a signal something that was saying i'm your  

favourite log i'm your special log a bit weird  mr duncan but i'll go off and get one yes  

it's a bit weird that's an understatement  everything on here is a bit weird look  

it's steve running i can't believe steve  was running then look steve was running  

that was quite funny i don't know why it made me  laugh come on steve hurry up hurry up mr steve

by the way we have flags of the world coming up  in two minutes so if you are a fan of the flags  

of the world we have them coming soon come on  mr steve we have the flags of the world soon

here we go oh okay then you don't  have to do that i do it because i  

know it annoys you mr duncan did you  see how my health is deteriorating  

can i do something that annoys  steve what's that hit me over there  

you're going to hit me over the head with that  anyway we have one minute look at the thick bark  

on this this is amazing this is this is incredible  wood but what i love about this wood steve  

is it smells amazing it smells like i'm walking in  in a pine forest it is how you can see where i've  

tried to stick my axe in mr steve is out of breath  i told you i was deteriorating yes mr duncan so  

these are mr steve's logs that he cut up last week  we will talk more about this in a moment steve  

because now guess what do you know what time it  is three o'clock it's coming up to three o'clock  

and for all those who are a fan of those flags  well guess what we have the flags of the world  

coming up in a few seconds whilst mr steve makes  heavy passionate love i love my love to his logs  

dear you are so strange mr steve we are just  waiting for three o'clock i like to be precise  

you see because it's not quite three o'clock yet  who would who would have thought that one minute  

could go by so slowly i can talk about logs bark  there we go bark oh bark so so the word bark is  

actually spelt the same way as is the sound that a  dog makes anyway more from this a little bit later  

on because right now it's three o'clock and it's  time to take a look at those flags of the world

well i don't know where mr duncan is

whether he realizes that flags of  the world have in fact finished  

can i hear him scampering scampering out  of his studio through the patio window  

and running down the path to come back to being  live well i don't know i can't hear him can you  

can you see me mr duncan where are  you flags of the world have finished

a good expression because a lot of people  yesterday were having parties as as people  

now are able to to join together again in groups  and have meetings and get togethers and reunions  

and i suppose here is a good expression  have you ever seen this before steve

bring something to the party if you bring  something to the party this is a very interesting  

phrase now you might think that this just  refers to bringing some food or maybe some drink  

to a party that you've been invited to however  we can also use this as an expression as an  

idiom to say bring something useful maybe to  a conversation very similar to what you just  

mentioned steve in fact so you bring something  to the party can also be used as an idiom to mean  

bring something useful bring something new maybe  in a conversation maybe if you are performing you  

might bring something to the party you might put  more energy and enthusiasm into your performance  

yes you're not physically bringing food it just  could be a group of people and you might arrive  

and somebody might say to you oh hello derrick  what are you bringing to the party derek oh what  

are you bringing to the party in other words what  have you got to say that will be of interest to  

people and will start a conversation i've never  met anyone called derrick i have it's strange  

isn't it i have i have several people it's an  old-fashioned i would say older type of name

there's a siskin a what a sur skin it's a  type of bird singing look can you hear it

there was a black bird when you went inside during  flags of the world yes you know what birds are  

like on animals once you've been standing around  for a while they they don't see you as a threat  

and they start to move closer and closer yeah and  we've got a siskin you called it a sur skin yes  

we won't go into the reasons why a siskin a siskin  is a type of bird it is green black the male  

you can always tell the male siskin because it  has a black head but he's sitting there and he's  

watching us it looks a bit like a smaller duller  green finch yes it's very small though they are

sounds like they they have asthma it sounds like  they are wheezing yes it's a very strange sound

comes to your party there is an opposite you  see an opposite you might have a party pooper  

oh a person who is a party pooper would you  describe yourself as a party pooper oh no i'm  

the life and soul of the party mr dick okay then  so when we talk when we talk about a party pooper  

what is a party pooper a person who comes to the  party but they make everything really miserable  

and and unhappy and they take away  all of the joy in all of the fun  

atmosphere this just sounds like you by the way

so it doesn't mean that they they come to  the party and poop no they don't actually  

have a poop although although they might  have a poop although that could be the  

derivation of the phrase the derivation eh  so they're bringing poop to the party yes  

well if so any somebody is a pooper it just means  you are deflating the atmosphere or you are taking  

away the joy so a party pooper is a person who  comes to a party they go to the party but they are  

they are miserable and they they bring nothing  happy they take away all of the joy that everyone  

is having yes and they might they might come  up with negative phrases and say things like  

oh oh i don't think we should turn the music  up too loud we might annoy the neighbours  

oh don't drink too much because you'll get a  headache in the morning uh or what time is it i've  

got to go home i've got to go you know things like  that things that will bring people's mood down  

so would that the opposite to a party pooper  well a party pooper will is the person who brings  

everything down so the opposite the opposite  is is you would say they are the life and soul  

so a person who is really having a great time and  they bring so much joy to the party they talk to  

everyone yes they mix they mingle they're fun  they're laughing like coming out with jokes yes  

and everybody wants to be around them and talk to  them that's it and uh be in their orbit so that  

person is the life and soul of the party yes they  usually that's used in a positive way to describe  

somebody that you you want somebody at your party  who's the life and soul of the party because  

quite often they will get things going they  will interject with a positive attitude  

and they will encourage everybody else to relax  and to have fun yes and you always want if you're  

going to arrange an actual party you want somebody  who's there who's lively who's going to uh and  

gets on with everybody and will interject and put  in a positive attitude to the party good hold out  

your hands steve i've got something for you is  it big is it's big it's big well a bit higher  

oh i see i didn't know what you were trying to do  there isn't a camera down there well i didn't know

it means that you suddenly you suddenly ask  them a question which they have to answer and  

if they don't get it correctly they'll look a bit  silly i'm going to ask you mr duncan why do we  

associate easter with a bunny it's all to do with  fertility really i didn't know that mr duncan  

i can't believe it so quite often we think of  springtime we think of animals we think of the  

animals getting together and having a little bit  of hanky-panky and then lots and lots of little  

animals will be bouncing around and having  fun so you we always think of spring as as  

a time when everything is coming back to life so  rabbits are well known for their breeding habits

i don't know right okay interesting we've got  some interesting comments people are bringing  

things to the party yes bring something to the  party please maybe uses the word joy killer  

we would probably say kill joy yes a killjoy  

is like a party pooper yes somebody that that  everyone's having fun and they come along  

and they make it miserable yes so maybe you have a  neighbor who keeps complaining about your music or  

maybe if you are in the garden presenting a live  stream to the world maybe they they get irritated  

and they start complaining so you might describe  that person as a killjoy because they they always  

like to take away everyone's happiness and joy and  all of their their feeling of of wanting to live

they are delicious but not easy to find you're  right they're not easy to find you can find dark

by the way i've just noticed i'm dressed like a  lifeguard i don't know why i just realized i was

at a swimming pool it's very strange but i like  the fact that my hat and my shirt they match yo

i look like i should be at a  swimming pool as a lifeguard

lifeguards you know tend to have a sort of  a body to match they've got a certain image

lifeguard because i can't swim so yeah i would be  very easy to drown so for those who are thinking  

of drowning me or doing something horrible to  me drowning you just throw me into it into the

at a party now that is something when you  go to a party there's always somebody who  

wants to be the centre of attraction true and  they usually will dress maybe provocatively  

maybe you know in a way that shows off all their  physical attributes maybe a short skirt and some  

silk scotch stockings and maybe some high heeled  shoes but enough about mr steve's party dress

i mean i've seen that many a time at a party and  

it i think it's easier would i be right in  saying it is easier probably for a woman to  

be uh you know make up make a real become the  centre of attraction in a party just by wearing  

something or not or not wearing something a  low-cut dress a short skirt i think a man can  

i think i think a man or a woman has  has the ability to to draw attention  

in some way maybe positive or negative i don't  know but anyway i don't want to go down that  

road to be honest we will stay away from that i  have some egg phrases oh by the way if you crash  

a party if you crash a party it means you go there  uninvited so you were not invited to the party  

but you still went there you are a gate crasher  or a party crasher interesting that it was t  

we don't know who that person is with no  idea who they are t is the person that is  

using the phrase crash a party because  no doubt they would like to crash a party  

sounds like the sort of thing that tea would  do i think so definitely i think so so anyway  

here is an interesting phrase for our theme  of parties and also eggs because it's easter  

you see we just had a look at our easter eggs  and there there you see a phrase you shell out  

for something or shell out on something so of  course we are using the word shell the outer  

the hard outer surface of a of an egg  is called a shell so if you shell out  

for something it means you spend money on  something quite often a large amount of money  

yes yes i think you would normally use that to  describe spending a lot of money on something  

um yes are you going to shell out yes for that  new car yes so you might shell out if you are  

buying something expensive maybe maybe it  is your wife's birthday and you want to  

buy something nice for her so she will  love you forever and ever you might have to  

shell out on all four a nice diamond necklace  you usually use the phrase shell out when you're  

having to spend something some money on something  that you don't particularly want to i would say  

yes uh you don't normally use it in a positive  way oh i'm going to shell out on that that new  

dress we also have well i wouldn't do that we also  have splash out splash so splash out is more pop  

more positive that's more positive splash out  let's splash out yes or splash your money around  

something bring everyone a drink for example yes  something also might cost you an arm and a leg  

here we go here's a great expression you  must break some eggs to make an omelette  

so if you break eggs to make an omelette  well i suppose sometimes you have to cause  

a little bit of damage or have some hard  work or maybe a little bit of mess and  

perhaps things will be untidy so sometimes you  have to go through a little bit of difficulty  

maybe a little bit of pain to get to your goal  

sometimes you have to break some eggs to make  an omelette things sometimes are not easy to do

eat it says well edit i think it's eat it  yeah my first husband wanted to be always  

at the centre of attention in different parties  and he always told the same story or joke  

this was very boring for me that's  very common in relationships  

uh when one person in the relationship is maybe  more outgoing than the other one and they've

applying for jobs you might apply for lots of  jobs not just one and then and then hope for that  

one job comes off and you get the job no apply  for lots of jobs and then you're spreading your  

risks don't put all your eggs in one basket like  investing money or something like that yes good uh  

can i oh you gotta what was that did you just  put you had that one already did you miss it yes

and then suddenly they decide you often use this  expression parents will often use this expression  

uh with their children or they might use it  to describe other people's children when a  

particular child was very shy and didn't want  to say very much and then suddenly they see them  

talking in groups of people and joining lots  of groups and societies and becoming more um  

extrovert you can say that oh look uh little  johnny there he's really coming out of his shell  

so in other words turning into what he really is  his true character yeah is coming out so instead  

of being introverted you become extrovert  so but but some people of course can be both  

so in certain situations i can be very shy  and quiet especially if i'm with people i  

don't know i don't like going to parties or any  big gatherings where i don't know the people  

i always like to know some of the people who are  there so that's one of the things i'm very awkward  

with with people i don't know i know that's  surprising because i seem i seem so confident  

big head giovanni says learning english is helping  me to come out of my shell good well there we go  

yes learning a new language gives you confidence  to express and use that language with other people  

so it develops self-confidence yes especially if  you want to use that language with other people

people's people's poop and pee pee as it  as it goes underground in all of the pipes  

effluent affluent often ends up in the sea  yes uh yes so if are you becoming more fluent  

in the english language by watching mr duncan's  live streams yes that's how you would use that  

word in a sentence yes uh i'm not very fluent  in german okay i would say you know that's  

a way of using it another way around you're  not you're not very fluent in english

because that is sewerage yes so all of the all  of the dirty disgusting stuff that comes out of

you'll you will be crucified if the boss finds out  that doesn't mean that doesn't mean that in the  

staff room that you will be literally crucified it  just means you will be facing harsh punishment yes  

you might use it to uh there could be two people  who are competing for sales for example and one  

person does spectacularly better than the other  one and you might say oh he crucified you yes  

i suppose that yes to be defeated heavily defeated  heavily as well so to suffer a heavy defeat as  

well yes no that's good so one football team might  crucify the other football team not literally  

again i have to keep you know they're not  they're not breaking up the goal posts and  

turning them into crucifixes or anything  like that what is the best dictionary  

the best dictionary is the oxford dictionary i  thought you were going to say it's mr duncan's  

uh channel well i'm not a dictionary what are you  sort of yes but yes a dictionary a reference book  

for the english language oxford every time i know  a lot of people are going to say oh it's not it's  

not oxford it shouldn't be looking at oxford it's  webster here's another good one from intelligent  

stigmata and stigmatized oh well stigmata is  interesting because that is the the the mark  

or sometimes people believe that they  actually have stigmata which is the  

mark left by the crucifixion or maybe even  there might even be blood coming from a wound  

like nails on a person's hand yes so so they are  actually the the wounds caused by nails being  

driven through someone's hands and also their feet  as well so yes yes it's that's what that means but  

what about stigmatizing if you stigmatize  someone it means you select a certain group  

from society and then you will treat them  harshly so you will take one group of people  

it can be any group and you treat them differently  quite often harshly or unfairly you stigmatize  

someone because maybe one person out of a  particular group behaved in a certain way  

you might then apply that to everyone but it is  actually related to stigmata you see because you  

are putting an indelible mark on someone that  can't be removed so as i understand it those  

two words are actually connected and you can  stigmatize an individual as well it doesn't  

have to be groups you can do it for individuals  you can say i feel so i've been stigmatized  

because you might have done something yes um  and then people always associate you with that  

event that took place something that you did  that was probably negative um you might have said  

something nasty to a colleague at work and then  people think you're a nasty person and then you  

become associated with everybody thinks you're  nasty and then you find out about it and you  

say i've been stigmatized but you might have  said something nasty to a colleague that was  

yes so it is rather like marking someone  imagine putting a big x on someone's head  

and you can see it all the time so  it's a mark that is put on a person  

and and i suppose you would say that it  can't be removed you have been stigmatized  

you have been treated unfairly yes sometimes  due to the colour of your skin yes your colour  

of your skin maybe your nationality maybe  your accent even maybe your sexuality oh

why do you always do that anyway never mind  mr duncan oh we've got to ten minutes to go  

ten really all right that's all i can't believe  how quickly today's live stream has gone we have  

talked about a lot of interesting subjects today  mr duncan and we have three hot cross buns left uh  

that no doubt you will want me to toast yes after  we finish this you have my complete attention  

i thought i would be too cold today but in  fact i'm just about right it's pleasant i can't  

believe because last week the weather forecast was  saying that today was going to be cold with snow

we have i suppose we have the opposite so here is  a view looking out of my studio window because i  

can do this you see so there it is looking out now  towards the Wrekin you'll be able to see the sun  

is shining everything is looking rather nice at  the moment and yes it's a rather nice day you can  

see now that many of the the leaves are coming on  the trees and also at the bottom of the screen you  

can see the little magnolia plant the beautiful  pink magnolia which is now coming out it's looking  

rather nice so everything is very spring-like  it really does feel as if spring is in the air

yes t can we call t mr t you can be mr t mr  t that's a nice little that's not that's a  

nice phrase because it wasn't there a  television program with a mr t in it  

there was the a team right can you name the  other members of the a team uh jim and bobcat no  

uh let me think there was george mr t there was  george peppard that that's the actor's name yes  

and he played hannibal hannibal i can't remember  his other name and then there was there was  

face do you remember face no i think it was  dirt benedict is that is that who played him  

and then there was the the  the strange one the weird one

um i can't remember his name oh i knew it was on  the tip of my tongue mr duncan if something's on  

the tip of your tongue it means you've nearly got  the phrase or the the answer to something that you  

want to say what's his name what was the typical  you know the correct the the strange one i i wanna  

yes well done i can't believe i got that mr duncan  normally with names or as they used to call him  

in the show mad murdock hello omar from kurdistan  have we got the kurdistan flag what here into the  

world not i haven't have i see how is he not here  i don't have the kurdistan flag in my garden but  

i do have it on flags of the world it is there i  know that for a fact well if you want to see your  

flag uh omar have a look at three o'clock and uh  hopefully your flag is there palmyra makes a very  

interesting point palmyra says i'm not religious  though i have visited me plenty of religious  

places yes it's strange i have a fascination for  for churches and maybe places of worship i don't  

know why but i love going into them looking at  the history especially if the building is old  

so we have the most amazing church here in much  wenlock and part of it is actually medieval  

so it goes back a very long way five six maybe 700  years one of the the church the original church  

and also the abbey here in much wenlock although  sadly the abbey is now ruined it is now a ruin  

unfortunately category says uh what is the meaning  of the word indelible mark or something that's  

indelible cannot be removed it is something  permanent so maybe you might say that a tattoo  

you might say that some sort of tattoo on  a person's flesh is indelible it can't be  

removed although technically i know i know what  you're going to say mr duncan or you can remove  

tattoos i've seen the tv show with that  girl who's got tattoos all over her body yes  

certainly very very difficult to remove  indelible permanent yes so you might you might  

mark your a piece of clothing with a marker pen  that's a permanent marker maybe you spill some  

wine on your white shirt or on your carpet yes  and that becomes an indelible mark something  

that you can't completely remove yes i think the  word again i might be wrong i think it relates to  

the word delete i think indelible and  delete are are very similar in meaning  

you might get egg on your face well i won't i'm  not saying that i'm right i'm saying i believe  

so i believe yes i think i think delete  and indelible that they have the same root  

yes uh i would love to live in a church as  intelligent well you can in the uk there are  

lots of old churches that that have been disused  and no longer used as a church and then you can  

actually buy a church and live in it in fact  you steve and and myself we had we have a friend  

who used to live in a church and can you  but you you are not going to believe this  

outside their front door there were tombstones  yes outside your stones real graves the graves  

were still there because if i can explain in the  uk church of england is the is the predominant  

church but attendances at churches have been  falling for many decades now yes and as a  

result of that uh the church of england have  been selling their churches because people  

aren't attending them no and you can buy these  churches and convert them into places to live yes  

um you can live in a church and you can  have your own graveyard complete with bodies  

the price intelligent of a church it will  just it'll usually just be this in terms of  

its area that it's square footage or meter it'll  it'll be about the same price as a normal house  

but quite often because the church is a very big  place they're normally split into maybe flats  

uh that friend of ours uh they had a quarter of  the church the church had been split into four  

and uh they've got all sorts of interesting  features upstairs like sort of heart you know  

stained glass windows and things like that  in their living room there was a group of  

middle-aged choir boys who were still living there  but it but they did have graves yes gravestones  

outside their front door and in their garden  imagine that at night you have to go outside to  

put the milk bottles or the cat outside you  have to put the cat out you open your door  

and there are these strange ghostly tombstones  staring at you christine has come up with a very  

good word there de consecrated churches yes  well it's the opposite consecrated church  

if you consecrate it means that thing can be  used it is officially recognized as a place  

where religious ceremonies can take place  and of course you can do the opposite you can  

de-consecrate so to deconsecrate is to take away  those abilities so the building is no longer used  

for religious practices it is used for just living  in and having cups of tea and hot cross buns which  

is what we will be doing soon quite often they're  good opportunities if you don't mind living in an  

old church they're often disused and in need of  a lot of repair to bring them up to the standards  

that you would require for a modern dwelling  uh and quite often they come up very cheaply  

but you have to spend then an awful lot of money  yes in converting them into a proper house because  

the spaces would be too big you would have to put  a floor in and things like that can i just mention  

quickly there is of course another type of church  called a chapel so chapels tend to be much smaller  

so in local areas you might find instead of  a church you might just find a chapel which  

is a much smaller building and quite often  you can actually buy the whole chapel and  

convert it into into a house some people don't  agree with it some people say say that it's  

it's sacrilegious so again if something is  sacrilegious it means it goes against religion  

so yeah it's quite interesting some interesting  words today our intelligence says uh that her  

husband uh likes to renovate things oh okay and  he's always dreamt of restoring a church yes yes  

come to england there are plenty for sale could he  do anything to this so this this needs renovating  

it needs a lot of work so maybe a little bit  of scaffolding maybe a little bit of cement  

and plaster i'm sure we could we could renovate  this maybe you could pray for me mr duncan  

i'll tell you what i will go on a  calorie-restricted diet which if you  

do that to worms they live about five times as  long i don't think it works with humans but uh  

what a bizarre reference what a thing to end  on well mr duncan it is four o'clock yes it's  

coming up to four o'clock four o'clock so i'm  going to go inside yeah and i'm going to toast  

some more tea cakes they're a little stale the  tea cakes i thought they were hot cross buns hot  

cross buns they're not as fresh as they normally  are yes i thought they were that was quite nice  

i thought so i will complain next week no i won't  i'm only joking well lovely to have been here uh  

and share time with you and next week maybe we  will have the sentence game back again mr duncan  

everything back to normal next sunday if there  ever is such a thing as normal if there is when
