Ok, so I think we should look, together we should look at three great ways to give someone

a compliment in English.

Hello Eat Sleep Dreamers, welcome.

Now today we are going to be looking at how to give someone a compliment in English.

So a compliment is something we say to someone to show them praise or admiration.

So we might compliment their cooking or their clothes or their appearance or maybe their

performance at work.

Now we've already looked at some really terrible examples of complimenting so I think it's

probably time for us to look at our first really great way to compliment someone in

English.

The first way to give someone a compliment is to say I really like or love and then the

noun phrase.

So for example, I love your hair.

I love your new shoes.

I love those earrings.

Let's look at an example.

'Hey Katie, I love your top.'

'Thanks so much.

I got it in a sale.'

Ok, let's have a look at how to say this naturally.

Now when we are giving a compliment we want to emphasise how much we like or love the

thing.

So for example, we'd say I love your shoes I love your shoes.

So I'm stressing the love and the shoes.

I really like your jacket.

Oh that was maybe a bit much.

I really like your jacket.

Ok again I'm stressing really and like.

Now also after a compliment we often ask a question.

So for example, I might say 'I really like your shoes, where did you get them?'

'I really like your shoes, where did you get them?'

Ok, let's have a look at our second useful way to give a compliment.

Our second way to give someone a compliment is this or that plus a noun phrase plus is

or looks and then the adjective.

For example, 'This cake is really tasty.'

'That dress looks really elegant.'

Ok, let's look at another example.

'Emily, that t-shirt looks perfect on you.'

'Ah thanks Katie, it's brand new.'

So again with this phrase we often add a question afterwards.

So for example I might say 'This food is absolutely delicious, can I have the recipe?'

Alright guys, let's have a look at our third great way to give a compliment.

Our final compliment is the most simple nice and then the noun phrase.

For example, 'Nice watch' 'Nice shoes' let's get an example.

'Nice shoes Katie!'

'Do you like them?

I've got a pair in pink as well.'

Ok, I really like this way to compliment someone because it's short and simple and you can

add a question on at the end.

So for example I would say 'Nice bag, is it new?'

'Nice bag, is it new?'

Ok, we've learned three great ways to give someone a compliment so now I want you guys
