Your English Coach: 2 keys to starting your pitch right.

All right,

welcome back to part two in this very special series where you get help from an

English coach. It's me, uh,

to improve your English for work fast. Now,

today you'll learn why you need a pitch in English,

which is basically a way of introducing or promoting yourself,

and you'll learn the first two things that you need to really

start your pitch right in English. You ready? Let's go. Hi,

I'm your English coach Christina,

and welcome to Business English with Christina,

where we basically solve your business English problems. Now,

before we get into today's lesson,

right, first things first. Why an elevator pitch?

Like why do I have, why, why, why? Well,

because it's a very short way of introducing yourself

or promoting yourself if you need to, uh,

promoting yourself or your business, et cetera.

And it's so short that it's ideally something

that you could say to someone just the time that you would like ride

the elevator up to, I don't know, the eighth floor or something like that.

And, you know,

this is something that we native speakers have to work on as well.

It's not something that we just naturally do. Um,

but if you work on it, it gives you a huge advantage in the business world.

A good elevator pitch can help you find a new job,

uh, find new opportunities, meet interesting business partners,

um, you know, get money for your company, your startup,

et cetera. So it really is something that is, I would say,

absolutely necessary in your business English toolbox. All right,

so now it's time to like roll up. Okay, I can't roll up my sleeves,

but you know, you roll up your sleeves and let's get to work on this.

Now remember the strategies here,

you can use them to solve any business English problem that you have.

The first thing that we're doing today is identifying a problem so

that we can work on it.

And the example that we're using in today's video is an,

an introduction or an elevator pitch. But like I said,

any business English problem that you have,

use that strategy to start solving it step by step.

And that will help you always to start your conversation with

confidence. And.

Then, then everything will be easier after that.

So you can start simply with one of these expressions.

Hi, I'm Christina. It's so nice to meet you. Okay,

so that one is a little less formal, but if you want a more formal option,

you can say, Hello, I'm Christina Rube.

It's such a pleasure to meet you.

And that option does sound slightly more formal,

but like I said,

choosing how you're going to start in advance of actually having to speak

just makes everything a lot more comfortable for you and it makes you

feel, you know, just like a, a lot more confident,

a lot more comfortable. So pick the situation,

pick the formality and start there.

Then depending on the situation or the context,

there are different ways that you can introduce yourself.

So let's decide how you'll do that right now.

So if you've got a specific job title,

like maybe you work at a company,

you can say something like this. I'm a human resources manager at

ecor. I specialize in recruiting diverse teams for IT companies.

And here's a slightly different way to introduce yourself.

If you're looking for a job, if you're networking or you're in a job interview,

I'm a human resources manager specializing in recruiting diverse teams for

IT companies. And then here's another example.

A way that you can introduce yourself and say what you do when you're like a

freelancer or a consultant with a specific job title.

I'm a marketing consultant who helps big brands with their public image.

Or if you just want to mention like your job title and your company,

and that's it. You can say it this way,

I'm a marketing consultant with amazing core.

Now maybe you're an entrepreneur or a small business,

and in this case a very effective introduction is like I help

your target audience and then to do the thing that they want

to do. For example,

I help small companies grow to midsize companies,

or I help smart,

competent business people have the confidence they need in English to do their

jobs better. Okay? So that's like, that's what I do,

but you get the idea. Now, in all of those examples,

was there an introduction that works for you,

like a structure of an introduction that works for you?

And do you think that you could formulate your own

introduction and then practice it and then learn it for

before the next video? I hope you said yes,

because you're going to need that first part before we get into.
