Learn the English Phrases FIRED UP and ON FIRE - A Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in this English lesson I wanted to help you

learn the English phrase fired up.

When you are fired up about something,

it means that you are excited about it.

It's just exactly that if you are excited about something,

you could say that you are fired up about it.

Let's imagine that you are planning to go to a concert

and you are looking forward to going to the concert,

you could say to your friends, I'm really fired up

about going to that concert next week.

Let's say that you bought a new boat

and you are really excited because you bought a new boat,

you just can't stop talking about the fact

that you bought a new boat, you could say to people

that you are fired up about the fact that you have

a new boat and you are just super excited that you have it,

so in English when you are fired up,

it means that you are excited about something,

I'm fired up because tomorrow I'm going to be making

another English lesson for all of you.

I have another phrase here on fire.

In English if you say that you are on fire,

you're not literally sitting there with flames

coming off of you that wouldn't be good at all.

When you are on fire, it means that you are really, really

good at something or doing something really, really well.

It works best when you talk about sports.

Sometimes when you are watching your favorite athlete,

you would say they are just on fire in the game

or the match today.

Maybe your favorite athlete is scoring a lot of goals

or maybe you are a fan of a certain goalie that plays soccer

or football and they are just stopping all of the shots

on that you would say

"Wow, he or she is really on fire tonight."

So when you are on fire, it means that you are doing

a job really, really well.

Sometimes I like to think that I'm on fire

when I am making these YouTube videos for you

or these Instagram and Facebook videos

so anyways, when you're fired up, it means you're excited

about something and if someone says that you're on fire,

it means that you are doing something really, really well.

The question this week that I have is from Julia Olis

and Julia says "Good morning, dear teacher.

"Hi, there you are really not a stick in the mud.

"I never get bored with you, yes, change is good."

So this is from a lesson just a little while back

and I will put the link up there so you can watch it

if you want to but yes, I am definitely,

well I don't think I'm a stick in the mud.

By the way a stick in the mud is someone

who does not like change.

I usually like new things, I like to try new things.

I find new things very, very exciting

By the way, I was thinking to myself that

because I want these videos to be exactly four minutes long

or close to four minutes that when I get to the point

in the video where there is a little bit of time left,

I'll just start to talk at my normal speed.

So many of you have asked me,

"Hey, Bob, can you just talk your normal speed

"because in your videos, you just talk

"at a really slow rate," like I was just doing now.

And I thought, you know what, maybe I should do that,

maybe at the end of each of these videos,

for about 20 or 30 seconds,

I should just start to talk my normal speed.

So here's something that I was thinking about today.

Today it is the weekend, it is a nice Saturday afternoon,

and I'm making this video a little bit early,

so it can be up early on Monday.

And I thought to myself, weekends are such a nice time.

Once I've done the live stream, I can relax a little bit,

I usually have a nap every Saturday afternoon.

I did that earlier today, but it's just really nice

every weekend to just take some time for myself

but I do like making videos for all of you as well.
