Pretty Much - A Really Short English Lesson with Subtitles

So in English when we say, "pretty much" we mean "almost".

So let's say you're writing a paper for a class, you're writing an essay for a class

and someone asks you, "Are you done writing your essay?"

If you were to say, "I'm pretty much done."

It means that for the most part you are done.

It means that you're 99% done.

You have almost the entire paper written.

Maybe you just want to read it over one more time.

So when we use the phrase, "pretty much" it means "almost"
